‘Big Brother 27' recap: Did Vince survive the egg-cellent eviction episode?

Heading into the fifth eviction episode of Big Brother 27, Veto winner Katherine Woodman had just announced she wouldn't be saving Zach Cornell, Keanu Soto, or Vince Panaro. All three men spent the week being subjected to hilarious punishments, with Zach and Rachel Reilly pulling an all-nighter getting gooed in the face, Keanu having to repeatedly serve pigs in a blanket as the "butt-ler," and Vince forced to wear a hard-boiled egg costume. So, whose game was permanently scrambled on Thursday night? Read on for our recap of Big Brother Season 27, Episode 18, which aired Aug. 14 on CBS. This season's theme is the "Summer of Mystery" and the house has been transformed into the Hotel Mystère, where secrets lurk behind every corner. The players still in the running to win the $750,000 grand prize are: More from Gold Derby 'The Traitors' heads to NBC with civilian edition hosted by Alan Cumming Backyard BBQ blowup: Raw meat, flared tempers, and a red-hot Pressure Test looms on 'MasterChef: Dynamic Duos' Ashley Hollis (25): Attorney from Chicago Ava Pearl (24): Aura painter from Long Island, N.Y. Katherine Woodman (23): Fine dining server from Gwinnett County, Ga. Keanu Soto (33): Dungeon Master from Miami Kelley Jorgensen (29): Web designer from Burbank, S.D. Lauren Domingue (22): Bridal consultant from Lafayette, La. Mickey Lee (35): Event curator from Jacksonville, Fla. Morgan Pope (33): Gamer from Palm Springs, Calif. Rachel Reilly (40): BB12 contestant and BB13 winner from Hoover, Ala. Rylie Jeffries (27): Professional bull rider from Luther, Okla. Vince Panaro (34): Unemployed from West Hills, Calif. Will Williams (50): College sports podcaster from Wallace, S.C. Zach Cornell (27): Marketing manager from Cartersville, Ga. We begin where the last episode left off, with Ava's three nominees remaining in place after Katherine chose not to use the Veto, and Zach decided not to trade his $10,000 for safety. That meant, for the first time this summer, a Head of Household did not have to name a replacement nominee. Elsewhere, Rachel was still fuming after Morgan suggested she only wanted the BB queen to make it to jury. Enough chit-chat — let's start this egg-cellent eviction episode! #ButFirst a Dictatorship Rachel anointed Ava's reign as "epic" because her three original targets remained on the block through the Power of Veto comp and ceremony, but her success meant that three of the season's biggest boys were in Ava's line of fire and would need to do everything they can to find six votes to stay through the end of the week. The houseguests set to vote in the eviction were looking at a rare split house instead of a "house vote" near-unanimous decision all because every player has a different preference for which one of the three guys is best for their own game going forward. Mickey, Kelley and Rylie all threw their hat in the ring to keep Vince over Zach, but Kelley and Rylie preferred to keep Keanu over Vince while Mickey would prefer Vince in that scenario. Mickey slipped in a conversation with Ashley where she referred to "my team" and "my game," inherently leaving allies like Ashley, Will and Rachel out of her thought process in what Ashley referred to as a "dictatorship" approach to the game. It's true that Mickey was so comfortable with her perception of the game that when Zach asked her to be honest about his chances of staying, she told him that it looks like he'd go home if he's up against Vince after the BB Block Buster. Morgan's Choice Morgan was caught in the middle more than anyone, facing a possible choice between evicting her bestie Vince or her other bestie Zach. She confided in Vince that she has no choice but to pick him over Zach because she believes that if/when Zach is in a position to choose between her and Lauren that he'll always choose Lauren. Obviously Zach wanted Morgan's vote as well so he used the secret of his $10,000 bribe power to prove to her that he didn't use it on himself in order to protect her from being the replacement. The revelation threw a spanner in the works for Morgan, complicating a promise she had already given Vince with a new understanding that maybe Zach has her back more than she thought. BB Block Buster In this week's comp, "Jumbo Gemstones," the three nominees had to move red, blue, green and yellow gemstones around similarly color-coded poles strategically until each pole had the three gemstones of the same color. The comp was much tougher for the guys than any of the previous Block Busters were for other nominees, but eventually Keanu found the right combination and saved himself from the block for a fourth time (three Vetoes and one Block Buster). Live Eviction In the few moments following the announcement of the comp winner, the camera stayed on Zach as he hugged all of the houseguests and inaudibly whispered in their ears before ending with a tearful hug with his blockmate Vince. When given the opportunity to publicly pitch for their vote, Zach refused to say anything bad about Vince and asked that everyone vote how they want. Vince reiterated the same, but offered that there is "value" in keeping him around another week. In the Diary Room: Mickey, Ashley, Morgan, Kelley, Rylie, Lauren, Katherine and Keanu all voted in the majority to evict Zach. Rachel and Will were the outlier votes to evict Vince. 10K Richer Zach's first words with Julie outside the house was that he did not expect to go home this week all the way back to Ava blindsiding him with the nomination and knowing that so many votes were in the middle between him and his closest buddy Vince. Obviously Julie wanted to know why Zach didn't use his $10,000 BB Buyoff to take himself off the block -- even slapped him with her content cards -- but he insisted that he wasn't going to be selfish and save himself knowing that one of his allies would have been the replacement. In the end it was clear that he was grateful for the experience and not torn up about any of the poor decisions he made that led to his downfall this week, and certainly not mad at the $10K lining his pockets!
