Here are 5 of the most affordable ADVs for the thrill-seeking rider in you

Hindustan Times08-07-2025
The entry-level adventure motorcycle segment has been growing in popularity, with several brands offering products across the range.
Adventure bikes, or ADVs, are built for riders who crave versatility, long-distance touring capability, and the freedom to explore what lies beyond the tarmac. These motorcycles come equipped with features such as long-travel suspension, upright ergonomics, and dual-purpose tyres, making them suitable for both daily commutes and off-road detours.
While this segment is often associated with high-end models bearing premium price tags, its growing popularity in India has brought several affordable options to the market. Manufacturers such as KTM and Hero have been consistently developing accessible models within this growing segment. This guide brings five such ADVs for riders looking to get started in the segment without compromising on capability:
2 Yezdi Adventure 2025:
The Yezdi Adventure 2025 is the updated version of the brand's entry-level adventure tourer. Priced from ₹ 2.14 lakh (ex-showroom), the new model builds on the original Adventure with cosmetic and functional upgrades for 2025. The motorcycle comes with a revised front end that features a twin-headlamp cluster, while including a new fuel tank, updated side sections, an adjustable windscreen and more.
The digital cluster has been retained from the older model and continues to support Bluetooth connectivity. As part of the MY25 update, the ADV offers new colours, a traction control system, and switchable dual-channel ABS.
The Adventure 2025 continues to draw power from the 334 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled Alpha2 engine, which remains unchanged. It makes 29 bhp of maximum power and 29.8 Nm of peak torque, paired with a six-speed manual transmission.
The suspension setup consists of telescopic forks at the front and a rear monoshock. Braking duties are performed by disc brakes on both ends.
4 KTM 250 Adventure:
The 2025 KTM 250 Adventure was launched as a revamped version of the Austrian brand's most affordable ADV and brings upgrades in design, chassis and performance. It is priced at ₹ 2.60 lakh (ex-showroom) and showcases KTM's new design philosophy. It gets a semi-fairing with a tall visor and a sleek tail section while bringing in a wider range of features.
For 2025, KTM fitted in a bi-directional quickshifter, ride-by-wire throttle, and off-road ABS. The motorcycle gets a 5-inch TFT display with navigation support and a USB charging port.
The 250 Adventure is powered by the 250 Duke's single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that gets a larger airbox for improved lower-end grunt. With this 249 cc motor, the bike makes 30.5 bhp at 9,250 rpm and 24 Nm of torque at 7,250 rpm.
KTM has employed a revised trellis frame with a lower seat height and longer suspension travel. The setup includes WP Apex USD front forks with 200 mm travel and an off-set monoshock at the rear with 205 mm travel. The bike rides on a 19-17-inch front-rear wheel combo, resulting in a staggered stance.
5 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450:
Priced from ₹ 2.85 lakh (ex-showroom), the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 might top this list, but it remains positioned as the most accessible adventure tourer within the 400-500 cc class in India. It succeeds the Himalayan 411 with new bodywork and chassis alongside a revamped tech suite.
The motorcycle retains the rugged look of the original Himalayan while adding on a lot of new features. It gets a switchgear-operated TFT Tripper module with Bluetooth connectivity and full navigation support. There is LED illumination all around and the motorcycle further features off-road ABS and ride-by-wire throttle.
The Himalayan 450 is powered by a 452 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that is mated to a new six-speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch. With this, the adventure tourer makes 39.4 bhp at 8,000 rpm and 40 Nm at 5,500 rpm.
Royal Enfield has employed a new twin-spar tubular frame with 43 mm USD front forks and a rear monoshock, both offering 200 mm of travel. The motorcycle also rides on 21-inch front and 17-inch wire-spoked wheels wrapped in tubeless tyres.

Honda zips past Hero with more 2-wheeler registrations in July

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has surged ahead of Hero MotoCorp as per Vahan registration data in July. The Japanese two-wheeler maker Honda clocked 3,45,660 retail registrations, surpassing Hero's 3,39,477 units. The last time Honda pulled this off on the Vahan dashboard was in September 2022 when it briefly ended Hero's long-standing dominance. July's data confirms a dramatic reversal of fortunes for the rivals. In May 2025, Hero led the market with 4,99,693 registrations, while Honda was trailing at 3,94,721, a gap of over one lakh units. But in the span of two months, Hero's monthly volumes shrank by more than 1.6 lakh units, while Honda's decline was far more measured, falling just under 50,000 units. Honda's strength in scooters and rising appeal in 125cc motorcycles are in sharp contrast to the broader market softness that has impacted Hero's rural-heavy portfolio of 1110cc motorcycles. The Activa continues to be Honda's trump card in scooters along with Shine 125 in motorcycles. As demand from metro and tier-2 cities picks up post-summer, scooters are seeing stronger retail traction than entry-level motorcycles. Honda's grip on this segment, both in volume and brand loyalty, is helping it withstand seasonal disruptions more effectively than its peers. Flagship commuter models like the Splendor and HF Deluxe, which form the backbone of Hero's volumes, are particularly sensitive to rural sentiment and monsoon-linked spending. "While Hero continues to rely heavily on models in the ≤110cc category for the bulk of its sales while Honda has seen significant traction in the 110-150cc segment. The boost in Honda's sales can partly be attributed to the recent launch of two new models the new Shine 100 and Hornet 125 has likely helped the company capture greater market share during the month," said Abhik Mukherjee, Research Analyst, Counterpoint Research. The last time Honda overtook Hero in September 2022, was seen as an anomaly, driven largely by a sharp post-COVID rebound in urban scooter demand. Hero had bounced back quickly in subsequent months. Fundamentals more aligned This time, however, the fundamentals seem more aligned with structural shifts in consumer preference. With urban buyers regaining spending power and scooters regaining ground, Honda's momentum may not be fleeting. The stage is now set for an intense festive battle. With Onam, Navratri, and Diwali around the corner, OEMs are lining up promotions and new launches. Hero will look to regain ground with upcoming commuter variants and refreshed VIDA electric launches. Honda, too, is expected to announce updates across the Activa lineup and its EV roadmap. It is no secret that the Japanese automaker has been itching to get the No 1 crown from its former India ally though this was easier said than done. Over the last 15 years since they split, Hero has held on to the top position thanks largely to the Splendor brand as well as its huge retail presence across the country. Honda had indicated one more than one occasion last year that it was confident of overtaking Hero but could not meet its objective. Whether the good showing in July will sustain for the remainder of this fiscal year remains to be seen. TVS and Bajaj moderate, Suzuki holds steady Meanwhile, TVS Motor Company registered 2,69,545 units in July, continuing a slow but steady decline from 3,10,437 in May. While its Jupiter scooter and iQube electric range continue to perform, overall volumes have softened slightly in the last two months. Bajaj Auto ended July with 1,38,318 registrations, down from 1,85,457 in May, as the company navigates shifts in export demand and domestic premium segment dynamics. Suzuki Motorcycle India remained stable, clocking 87,962 registrations, holding its ground with consistent performance of the Access and Burgman Street models. (Note - Vahan data does not include registrations for Telangana.)
