Tej Pratap Yadav to contest from Mahua assembly seat in Bihar polls
Patna, Jul 27 (PTI) Former Bihar minister Tej Pratap Yadav, who was recently expelled from the RJD by his father and founding president Lalu Prasad, has announced that he would contest the upcoming Bihar assembly elections from Mahua seat in Vaishali district as an Independent candidate.
He is currently the MLA of Hasanpur seat in Samastipur district.
Speaking to reporters at his residence here on Saturday evening, he said, 'Yes, this time, I will contest the elections from Mahua assembly seat as an Independent candidate. My opponents must have started to feel an itch." 'I have people's support… a large number of people are now connected with my 'Team Tej Pratap Yadav', a social media platform to reach out to people," he added.
He further claimed that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar would not retain his post after the assembly polls.
'I am confident that 'chacha' (Nitish) will not become the CM… those who would form the government, if they talk about youths, employment, education, and health, Tej Pratap Yadav will stand with them," he said.
The former Bihar minister was expelled from the party on May 25 by his father Lalu Prasad for six years.
He was expelled a day after he reportedly confessed on social media to being 'in a relationship" with a woman named Anushka.
He, however, later deleted the Facebook post with a claim that his page was 'hacked". Lalu Prasad also disowned Tej Pratap due to his 'irresponsible behaviour".
A few days after his expulsion from the party, Tej Pratap had alleged that there was a 'conspiracy" to drive a wedge between him and his younger brother Tejashwi Yadav.
He had voiced his sentiments in a couple of posts on his X handle, blaming the crisis on 'Jaichand', a metaphor for traitors.
His expulsion came barely a few months ahead of the Bihar assembly polls, which the RJD will fight under the leadership of Tejashwi Yadav. Born to Prasad and Rabri Devi, both former chief ministers of Bihar, the two brothers are among four of nine siblings active in politics.
Tej Pratap Yadav had made his political debut in the assembly polls of 2015, and is a second-term MLA with two brief stints in the state cabinet. PTI PKD ACD

7-Year-Old Baloch Boy Charged Under Pakistan's Anti-Terror Law, Sparking Criticism
The child's 'crime' is the sharing of a TikTok video featuring a speech by prominent human rights activist Gulzar Dost A disturbing incident in Gwadar has brought to the forefront grave concerns regarding the alleged misuse of counter-terrorism laws by Pakistan, particularly against minors and activists in Balochistan. A seven-year-old boy in the port city has reportedly been charged under Pakistan's stringent Anti-Terrorism Act, his 'crime" being the sharing of a TikTok video featuring a speech by prominent human rights activist Gulzar Dost. The case, registered by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Makran, saw the young child presented before an anti-terrorism court, a move that has ignited widespread condemnation. Gulzar Dost, identified as a human rights activist rather than a militant, has himself been in detention for two weeks, underscoring what critics describe as a broader crackdown on dissent. According to the sources, the case involving the minor raises serious questions about the state of human rights in Pakistan, particularly concerning the vulnerability of its own citizens to the very machinery designed for national security. There are growing accusations that Pakistan's security apparatus, including its intelligence agencies, has transformed into an unaccountable tool of oppression, increasingly targeting minorities and Baloch activists. The charging of the child under anti-terrorism provisions is seen as an illustration of this alleged overreach, highlighting a pattern where the state's powerful agencies are purportedly employed to harass and silence voices critical of its policies, even extending to the targeting of minors. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Tejashwi's name claim falls flat as EC hits back
1 2 Patna: RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav was left red-faced on Saturday after the Election Commission of India (ECI) confirmed that his name was indeed present in the draft electoral rolls released and uploaded to its website on Friday contrary to his claims. Tejashwi, in a hasty press conference held in Patna earlier in the day, alleged that his name was missing from the draft rolls despite having duly filled out the enumeration form and submitting it through the booth level officer (BLO). However, official records showed his name listed in the Digha assembly constituency with serial number 416 and house number 110. Patna district magistrate Thiyagarajan S M said Tejashwi's EPIC number – RAB0456228 –remained unchanged from 2020. It appeared that Tejashwi had been searching using an outdated EPIC number, RAB2916120, which he himself read aloud during the press conference, saying "records not found". Following the clarification, senior BJP leader and deputy CM Samrat Choudhary launched a scathing attack on the RJD leader. "Tejashwi ji, not only I but your family and the whole of Bihar have doubts on your ability. It must be very difficult for you to find your name in the SIR draft. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Swelling and internal bleeding in the brain, help this baby Donate For Health Donate Now Undo Your name is respectfully registered with your father at number 416, you can see it. Now stop this misleading and fraudulent business. RJD's confusion and fear are proving to be bogus again and again," he said. JD(U) state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha also criticised Tejashwi. "He is going through deep political frustration and disappointment these days, due to which he has become accustomed to making misleading and baseless statements by constantly ignoring the facts. His irresponsible statement regarding the voter list not only confuses the general public, but it is also an attempt to spread distrust in the democratic process and institutions," he said. T ejashwi's blunder drew mockery on social media too. One user, Rajeev Ranjan, posted, "He had two voter cards. There were two different EPIC numbers. One card was cancelled. Now he will have to answer why he had two voter cards." Road construction minister Nitin Nabin took a swipe as well and said, "Who could not check his own name in the voter list… what will he do for the people of Bihar!" Meanwhile, RJD spokesperson Chitranjan Gagan accused the administration of manipulating records after Tejashwi's press conference. "Tejashwi ji's EPIC number RAB2916120 was changed to RAB0456228 in a hurry. Whereas the ECI has repeatedly reiterated that the voter serial number and booth serial number of those whose name is in the released format may be different, but no change has been made in the EPIC number. Not only this, in the released format, it has been asked to check through the EPIC number whether your name is in the format or not. There is no provision for changing the EPIC number. And if it was changed, then why was he not informed?" Gagan alleged. Tejashwi also raised serious questions about the voter deletion process. He claimed that 20,000 to 30,000 names had been removed from nearly every assembly constituency and alleged that approximately 65 lakh names had been deleted across the state. "First of all, the EPIC number does not change. How did it change?" Tejashwi asked, after Patna DM released the electoral list bearing his name and serial number. He also alleged discrepancies in the ECI's data transparency. "In the EC advertisements, it was mentioned that so many people have shifted, died, or had duplicate EPICs, but in the list provided to us, the ECI has cleverly not given the address of any voter," he said.
