Covid-19 outbreak closes two wards at major Scots hospital
Two wards at a major Scots hospital have been shut down following a Covid outbreak, with health chiefs urging visitors to stay away if they feel unwell.
NHS Grampian confirmed on Sunday that wards 110 and 308 at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary are now closed to all but essential visitors.
In a statement on social media, the health board said: 'Due to cases of COVID, wards 110 and 308 at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary are closed to all but ESSENTIAL visitors.

John Swinney has paid tribute to a young constituent who sadly lost her battle with anorexia earlier this year. The first minister attended a charity park run, which was organised by the family of Rachel Bywater from Aberfeldy, to raise funds for BEAT, the UK's leading charity supporting those affected by eating disorders. Swinney joined the family of Rachel who sadly died on May 17 this year aged just 20-years-old at the event which has raised an amazing £7,500 for the charity. The MSP for Perthshire North shared a snap of the group together sporting their, 'Run for Rachel' t-shirts and wrote: "A special privilege to join the family of Rachel Bywater - one of my constituents who faced an eating disorder and sadly died recently aged only 20 - to run a 5k and raise funds for Beat (Eating Disorders). "Wonderful to see so many in the #Aberfeldy community supporting today." Her father Dave Bywater added: "Thank you John, it was great to have your support and that of the community. 'I hope everyone who reads these posts can realise there is a family behind this who are suffering a tragic loss, and ignore the offensive responses you have received." Ahead of the event her family wrote: "We will be installing a new bench on the River Bank for Rachel Bywater, who very sadly passed away on May 17th this year. "To mark the occasion a fund raiser will be held on the Sunday to raise funds for BEAT (Eating Disorders). All you have to do is walk, jog or run 1, 2 or 3 laps of the FeldyRoo Fitness Trail. "The choice is yours, all we want is everyone to get involved. You can fill in an entry form and pick up sponsorship form at any of the pubs - Fountain, Black Wach or Schiehallion. "Entry is totally free but raised sponsorship or donations on the day would be really appreciated no matter how little or large."

Horror as boy has leg shredded in idyllic bay shark attack
A child suffered serious injuries after he was bitten on the arm and leg by a shark before being airlifted to the main hospital. A seven-year-old boy has had his leg shredded to pieces in a horror shark attack. About 10 children were playing and jumping in Taioha'e Bay when the incident happened on Friday, the fire department of Nuka Hiva, said. Reportedly the youngster was bitten on the arm and leg, according to local officials. A firefighter who helped the child with serious bite wounds said: "I'm 35 years old and this is the first time I've seen this. These were long and deep wounds." He added: "It's probably related to the fish carcasses that fishermen throw in this area. There are many sharks, such as blacktips, hammerheads, and lemon sharks." The child was taken to the island's small hospital before being airlifted to the French Polynesia hospital centre in Tahiti, which is located around 1,500km (930 miles) from Nuku Hiva. Shark attacks are rare in French Polynesia and are often linked to spearfishing, handling fish traps or feeding sharks, which is prohibited, reports the Mirror. The waters of French Polynesia were declared a shark sanctuary in 2006 and since then, populations have remained relatively healthy. A study carried out by a team of researchers from the Paris Science et Lettres (PSL) Research University found that when sharks bite humans in the area, it is mostly due to self-defence. The study, which reviewed over 60 years of shark bite data, found that in these cases, often triggered by harpooning, spear-gun strikes and rough handling, sharks typically inflict superficial wounds that are rarely fatal unless unfortunate circumstances, like arterial damage, occur. The shark approached him from behind a reef and took a bite on his arm, damaging his nerves and tendons. He said: "Seeing that shark right before it bit me – that was a real 'oh s**t' moment. My first reaction was to get my knife used for cutting lines, and I just went for the shark as hard as I could. "It was only a little knife, but I'm very glad I had it on that day. After it released my arm, I couldn't see anything except for a huge pool of blood around me, but I managed to stand up on a reef. My arm was literally squirting blood – it looked like a stripped drumstick." Angus said he was in "immense pain" but eventually recovered after being treated, and said he didn't blame the animal. The sailing enthusiast said: "It hasn't put me off being in the ocean – I can't wait until I can go back. My assumption was it was a territory thing – you can't blame the animal."
