However, if our sisters and daughters are scared to come out of their houses to pursue their dreams and enterprise, it will cast a dark shadow over our future. Unprecedented rise in sexual offences and violence against women is unacceptable, deplorable and must be curbed with a heavy and harsh hand," he added.
Responding, DMK senior leader and state Municipal Administration Minister, K N Nehru, recalled an incident on Wednesday where a student at a state-run university refused to accept the certificate from him during the convocation ceremony, accusing him of acting against TN's interests.
Referring to a Tamil saying, Nehru indicated the Governor was frustrated over the episode.
"On the other side, DMK's allies have boycotted the Independence Day tea party hosted by him. So he has issued the statement out of frustration," Nehru said in a party statement.
"Many allegations made in the statement have been countered already with facts," he said, referring to Ravi's remarks made in the address.
Ravi lacked 'decency' since he made allegations in the address meant for the Independence Day, he said.
Tamil Nadu topped the socio-economic indices and had even reached a 11.19 per cent growth rate.

He said his government provided Rs 109.34 crore to over 2.13 lakh farmers who were affected by the flood last year. Around 25,000 farmers were enrolled for Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, and the state government provided Rs 32.75 crore as assistance and subsidy under Mukhyamantri Fasal Bima Yojana in the 2020-21 fiscal. In the dairy and poultry sectors, the state produced over 2.47 lakh tonnes of milk, 59,700 tonnes of meat, and 36 crore eggs in the 2023-24 fiscal year. L. Ganesan, Governor of Nagaland and former senior BJP leader from Tamil Nadu, passed away in Chennai on Friday (August 15, 2025) at the age of 80. He had earlier served as the Governor of Manipur and held the additional charge as the Governor of West Bengal. A bachelor, he had recently celebrated his 80th birthday in a grand manner in Chennai. His association with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) began in his school days, with his family being closely connected to the organisation. 'He was a government employee, working as a Revenue Settlement Inspector, before resigning to become a full-time pracharak of the RSS. He worked primarily in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu and rose to become the chief organiser of the RSS during the Emergency,' said sources in the RSS. 'His role in protecting the Hindu interest in Meenakshipuram religious conversions and Mandaikkadu communal riots were well appreciated by the nationalist leaders of yesteryears. His tireless efforts to bring peace and unity among Hindus in the caste nerve centres of Tamil Nadu, such as Puliangudi and Ramanathapuram, bore fruit, leading to harmony among the people,' says the website of the Nagaland Governor's office. Mr. Ganesan also served as the editor of the BJP's Tamil organ Ore Naadu (One Nation) and was the founding president of Pottramarai ('Golden Lotus'), an organisation dedicated to promoting and supporting Tamil scholars across the globe.
