Major Garrett's ‘The Takeout' To Debut On Streaming Channel CBS News 24/7
EXCLUSIVE: Major Garrett will host a nightly politics and culture show for CBS News 24/7, The Takeout, that is based on his weekly interview podcast.
The show will debut at 5 p.m. ET on May 27, and also will be available as a podcast across platforms and on the CBS News app.

Per CBS News, 'Garrett will present the show's main courses of in-depth interviews and original segments through the lens of the politics of culture and the culture of politics for the modern and on-the-go streaming audience.'
'It's serious discussion, but we do not take ourselves too seriously,' Garrett said in a promo for the show.
Garrett signed off on The Takeout podcast in January after eight seasons, but told listeners that there were future plans for the show. The podcast featured interviews with lawmakers, actors, authors and others, and he brought the show to places around D.C. for conversations.
Garrett is the chief Washington correspondent for CBS News, and is an anchor for America Decides on CBS News 24/7. He was chief White House correspondent for the network from 2012 to 2018. He also was the host of the podcast investigation series Agent of Betrayal: The Double Life of Robert Hanssen.

George Clooney claims it's frightening time to be in news business because of Trump
Actor George Clooney said "it's a scary time to be a news person" under President Donald Trump's administration during an interview on Wednesday. Clooney told CNN's Anderson Cooper that "most news organizations are under fire" by the Trump administration and that Cooper and CBS' "60 Minutes" have been specifically "picked out." While the actor expressed concerns about the current state of the country, he did push back on Cooper's assertion that America is currently at its worst. "I can make an argument that we're not. I can make an argument that we've had much worse times in our history. You know, 1968, every city in the United States was burning and there was — National Guard was surrounding the White House and the Capitol, and we'd lost Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy and Tet Offensive," he said. Clooney continued, vocalizing his concerns about the Trump administration's alleged "attack" on news organizations. "But it's a frustrating time, and I think a scary time for many people. It's a scary time to be a news person, to be in your profession. You've been picked out, you know, '60 Minutes' has been picked out. Most news organizations are under fire," he said. "That usually happens with demagogues in a way. It usually is a way of — the first places you attack are the news, because that's how we inform ourselves." Cooper followed up by asking the actor if he believes that "Trumpism" will last following the current president's term. "I don't think so," Clooney replied. "I think it'd be very hard to do it. Remember this: Donald Trump is a celebrity. That's what he is. I mean, he has a star on Hollywood Boulevard. I don't have a star on Hollywood Boulevard. I'm not lobbying for one. I'm just saying." He continued by noting that while Trump is "charming" and many of the people who support him find him "funny," another large portion of Americans do not. "And so when he is finished, and he will be finished, they're going to have to go looking for someone who can deliver the message that he delivered with the same kind of charisma. And they don't have that," he said of the Republican Party. Later in the interview, Cooper asked Clooney whether he's worried about Trump personally targeting him. "Sure. Everybody worries about it," he responded. "But, you know, if you spend your life worrying about things, then you won't do things. You know, we have, like everybody, a family, and we have a life, and we try to, you know, live and do things as the best example for our kids. And I want to be able to look at my kids in the eye and say where we stood and what we did at certain times in history. And I have no problem with that."

According to a report from Deadline on Monday (May 12), Madonna has teamed up with Deadpool & Wolverine producer Shawn Levy to develop a limited series based on her life and career for Netflix. Levy's production company 21 Laps currently has an exclusive deal with Netflix. The new project is apparently not related to a much-discussed and since-delayed feature film based on Madonna's life. The project, which was being developed by Universal Pictures and set to star Ozark and Inventing Anna actress Julia Garner as the pop superstar, was put on an indefinite hold in 2023 as Madonna embarked on her Celebration World Tour. In 2024, however, Madonna sparked rumors that the film might be back in the works, when she shared a since-deleted photo of herself sitting at a typewriter working on a screenplay titled Who's That Girl — an apparent nod to her 1987 film and song of the same name. Still, Madonna herself floated the idea of creating a TV series about her life in November of last year, claiming that a number of 'producers and agents' told her that she wouldn't be able to make her film the way she wanted to. 'Downsize-down scale-think smaller-they say—I realized that everything in my life is going to be challenged,' she wrote in a since-removed post, before asking her fans if they would prefer to see her story adapted into 'a series or a feature film.' Ana de Armas calls Tom Cruise's praise of her work 'surreal' as dating rumors intensify

"It's very special," de Armas told Access Hollywood at the premiere of her John Wick movie "Ballerina" on Tuesday when asked about him raving about her role in the film. "It's very surreal that an actor like him, like someone like him, likes the movie and my performance and my work, and we're working together now so, yeah, it's pretty, it's really amazing." At the London premiere of "Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning," Crusie told a reporter: "I just saw the movie. It kicks a--," referring to "Ballerina." "Oh, man, it's right in that tone. It's right in that big world. You're going to love it." De Armas and Cruise sparked dating rumors earlier this year when they were spotted together in London and are set to shoot the supernatural thriller "Deeper" together.
