Heerenveen Eredivisie 2025/2026 Preview
After taking over midway through the campaign after Robin van Persie left for Feyenoord, Robin Veldman now has a full preseason with the Heerenveen squad. Veldman won four and lost four of his games in charge, with the side ending up in ninth. The side were easily handled by AZ in the playoffs, but another return to the post season would be welcomed.
Transfers in: Vaclav Sejk (Sparta PRague), Nolhan Courtens (Antwerp), Amourricho van Axel Dongen (Ajax), Maxence Rivera (Dunkerque), Joris van Overeem (Maccabi Tel Aviv), Dylan Vente (Hibernian), Maas Willemsen (De Graafschap), Vasilios Zagaritis (Almere City)
Transfers out: Denzel Hall (Rotherham), Melle Witteveen (free), Che Nunnely (free), Danilo Al-Saed (BK Hacken), Amara Conde (Elversberg), Ion Nicolaescu (Maccabi Tel Aviv), Mats Kohlert (Bronby)
Key player: Jakob Trenskow
Trenskow had a strong first season in the Eredivisie with Heervenveen. The 24-year-old Danish winger grabbed seven goals and three assists, finishing as the sides second leading goal scorer behind Nicolaescu. With the latter now departed, Trenskow will need to contribute both goals and assists for Heerenveen this season.
Young player to watch: Nikolai Hopland
Another Scandanavian talent, this time for Norway, Hopland had a decent first season in the Eredivisie. In 33 games for Heerenveen he scored twice from central defence. Veldman will hope that he can continue to progress and prove a foundational piece for his defence, one that conceded 57 goals in 34 games last season, the worst in the top 10.
Transfer window needs:
If Dylan Vente can fire like he did for PEC Zwolle last season, Heervenveen will have found their replacement for Moldovan forward Nicolaescu. If not, they could be struggling for goals upfront. The side have already been active, so like most other Eredivisie sides, they need the new players to settle quickly and have an impact.

Ballon d'Or 2025: Achraf Hakimi's agent sets the record straight
Achraf Hakimi Tensions have been running high at PSG in recent days between Achraf Hakimi, Ousmane Dembélé, and the French club's fans over the 2025 Ballon d'Or. The Moroccan's agent has stepped in to cool things down. Until September 22, the race for the Ballon d'Or promises to be fierce between Achraf Hakimi and Ousmane Dembélé. After Hakimi's comments a few days ago, his agent has broken his silence regarding alleged tensions with Ousmane Dembélé. Alejandro Camaño made things clear while speaking to Winwinallsport: "Hakimi's last six seasons have all demonstrated that he is a decisive player, winning team trophies at the highest level with Real Madrid, Dortmund, Inter, and now PSG. He embodies the evolution of modern attacking play, where a wide player—defensive by position but offensive by nature—has brought extra power to every team he has played for, including his national team. In my opinion, he is the best player in the world in his position, matching or even surpassing some of the game's historic greats." For Alejandro Camaño, Achraf Hakimi has every reason to chase the 2025 Ballon d'Or: "For Hakimi, it's a source of pride to share with his PSG teammates—and even with his close friend Dembélé—the chance to win this award. All wingers, those who work hard and fight for their teams, should feel represented by him, as they too can aspire to such a major honor. It would be unfair not to recognize the excellence of PSG's work, which has enabled so many of its players to be nominated, thanks to a style of football their coach has elevated by focusing on aesthetics, speed, and ultimately, the beautiful game." Alejandro Camaño concluded with these words: "This year, PSG have raised the aesthetic quality of their football, and fans are delighted to see this team shine across Europe. Hakimi represents a generation of Moroccans who have made great strides on the international stage. And this isn't about Dembélé—it's about football, because so many players bring us joy through the sport we all love: football."

Giants injury updates: Andrew Thomas, Malik Nabers, Cam Skattebo healthy
The New York Giants are getting some star power back in action this week. The team announced via social media Tuesday that offensive tackle Andrew Thomas had passed his physical and would return to practice. In addition, the G-Men will also see second-year wide receiver Malik Nabers (back) and rookie running back Cam Skattebo (hamstring) return to the practice field Tuesday. It's big news for a Giants squad that has managed to go 2-0 in preseason games without any of the three available. Thomas and Nabers are both starters and two of the team's biggest stars on offense. Skattebo, a fourth-round pick by New York this year, is projected to split carries with sophomore back Tyrone Tracy Jr. Here are the latest Giants injury updates from Tuesday: JAXSON DART: How New York Giants QB played vs Jets Andrew Thomas injury update Thomas suffered a Lisfranc injury in a Week 6 matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals last year. The injury ended his season prematurely and marked a second straight season missing seven or more games after he signed a five-year extension in 2023. The five-year veteran spent all of the spring and start of training camp on the PUP list while rehabbing from his Lisfranc injury, which required a surgery last fall. The Giants announced on social media Tuesday that Thomas had passed his physical and would return to practice. Malik Nabers injury update Nabers has been battling a couple of injuries this offseason. He first missed all of the Giants' spring activities while the team elected to let Nabers rest and recovery from a lingering toe injury he's had since college. More recently, the rising star wideout suffered a back injury that caused him to miss the last two weeks of practice and both of New York's preseason games so far. On Tuesday, head coach Brian Daboll told reporters that Nabers would be returning to practice. That opens the door for him to make his 2025 preseason debut when the Giants host the New England Patriots on Thursday night. Provided everything goes well, Nabers should remain available to start in Week 1 of the regular season as well. FANTASY FOOTBALL: WR tiers for 2025: Ranking best fantasy options Cam Skattebo injury update Skattebo suffered a minor hamstring injury in early August then missed the last two and a half weeks of practice when a setback kept him out for extra time. The injury caused Skattebo to miss both of the Giants' first two preseason games and robbed him of a chance to poach more first-team snaps from Tracy, New York's presumed lead back. Daboll said Tuesday that Skattebo would be returning to practice this week, which, like Nabers, opens the door for him to make his 2025 preseason debut later this week. If and when Skattebo takes the field on Thursday night, it will also be his professional debut for the Giants after New York nabbed him with a fourth-round pick in April. 6 Chiefs won't practice on Tuesday; Steve Spagnuolo weighs in
Ahead of their practice at their home facility at the Truman Sports Complex on Tuesday, the Kansas City Chiefs listed six players who would not take the field due to injury or illness: linebacker Jack Cochrane (knee bruise), offensive lineman Ethan Driskell (appendectomy), safety Mike Edwards (hamstring), cornerback Nazeeh Johnson (shoulder), defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott (ankle) and wide receiver Jalen Royals (knee). Late Monday afternoon, Kansas City placed defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah on the Reserve/Injured list. Even though he is practicing, cornerback Kristian Fulton has yet to play in a preseason game as he recovers from offseason knee surgery. 'Well, the unknown is Kristian right now because we haven't had him out there,' said defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. 'Jaylen [Watson] has missed some time, and now we've got [Johnson], who is a little dinged up. More than any group on the defense, that back end has to have a lot of continuity, and that comes with reps. So with a couple of different moving pieces, there's a little bit of concern there, so hopefully we can start to gel that together.' The Chiefs play their final game of the 2025 preseason against the Chicago Bears at home on Friday at 7:20 p.m. Arrowhead Time. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has already confirmed that the starters will see playing time.
