Queen Graces GT World Challenge Asia To Support Johor Princes
KUALA LUMPUR, July 12 (Bernama) -- Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, graciously attended the Fuji Speedway Circuit in Japan today to witness the GT World Challenge Asia series race.
According to a post on Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar's official Facebook page, Her Majesty's presence was to support her sons, Tunku Panglima Johor Tunku Abdul Rahman Sultan Ibrahim and Tunku Putera Johor Tunku Abu Bakar Sultan Ibrahim.
In the first race in Fuji, Tunku Abu Bakar Al-Haj and his teammate Jordan Love (car #66) achieved their first podium finish of the season by securing third place.
Meanwhile, Tunku Abdul Rahman Al-Haj (car #99) continued to display consistent driving with teammate Ben Green, finishing in eighth place.
His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, who followed the race from the capital, expressed gratitude over his youngest son's podium finish.
'I am grateful that Tunku Putera achieved a good result this time and hope that he and his brother (Tunku Panglima) will continue to give strong competition in tomorrow's second race,' the post read.
Also in attendance at today's race were Raja DiHilir Perak Raja Iskandar Dzurkarnain Sultan Idris Shah, as well as Tunku Tun Aminah Sultan Ibrahim and her husband, Datuk Dennis Muhammad Abdullah.
Both Johor Motorsports Racing (JMR) Corvette Z06 GT3.R cars will start tomorrow's second race from the front row after claiming first (car #99) and second (car #66) positions in this morning's qualifying round.

Pei Jing to spar with France's world championships team
PETALING JAYA: Malaysian shuttlers have long been sought after for their expertise by European counterparts, and now it's Lai Pei Jing's turn to render her service abroad. The mixed doubles specialist, who forms a professional partnership with Jimmy Wong, will travel to France later this month, after the Macau Open, to serve as sparring partner to the French national team for two weeks in their preparations for the World Championships in Paris from July 25-Aug 31. Pei Jing revealed that she was approached by the French coaches when competing at the Luxembourg Open in May. She said she went to seek coach Teo Kok Siang's blessings because this was also a crucial period for the independent shuttlers' camp as teammates such as world No. 6 Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie are also gearing up for the world meet. "During a tournament in Luxembourg, the French coaches approached me and asked if I was interested in sparring with their players," said Pei Jing when met at the launch of the SBE Serla Charity Badminton Championship here today. "I guess it's because they don't have female players who can offer strong competition. "I spoke to my coach about it because the players here also need me. "But he understood my situation — that I need the money — so he gave me his blessing to go. "This is my first time serving as a sparring partner for another country, but my heart remains with the Malaysian players," she added. The French will be counting on their star players — Alex Lanier in the men's singles, the Popov brothers, Toma Junior and Christo, in the men's doubles, and Thom Gicquel–Delphine Delrue in the mixed doubles — in their bid for a historic medal at the world meet. Pei Jing herself had managed nine appearances at the World Championships, three with Tan Aik Quan and six with Tan Kian Meng, and came closest to winning a medal in 2022 when they reached the quarter-finals. Pei Jing lent her support to the SBE Serla Charity Badminton Championship acknowledging the backing she had previously received from some of its sponsors. The tournament, set for this Sunday at Stadium Juara, aims to raise funds for Persatuan Memperbaiki Akhlak Che Tan Khor and Persatuan Amal & Kebajikan Amal Zhong Hua in Tanjong Malim. Apart from cash donations, sponsors such as SpectacleX and Bergamot are also contributing spectacles and medical supplies for NGOs in need.

Prasarana Adds Final Diesel Bus Fleet Before EV Transition
Prasarana Malaysia Bhd has added 310 new diesel buses under its 2025 Bus Replacement Programme, marking the final addition of diesel-powered vehicles to its fleet as the company sets its sights on an electric bus transition by 2037. Speaking at the launch, Transport Minister Anthony Loke affirmed the move as a significant milestone in the government's push for a low-carbon, environmentally friendly public transport system. 'This marks Prasarana's final procurement of diesel buses. It's part of our long-term strategy to modernise public transport while moving toward greener alternatives. 'With these new buses, we aim to enhance service frequency, safety and accessibility for commuters in Klang Valley and Penang,' said Loke. Manufactured by Higer and fully assembled in Johor, the buses will be deployed in stages, prioritising densely populated routes with high passenger demand. Loke highlighted that the decision to locally assemble the buses supports technology transfer, encourages local job creation and strengthens the Malaysian automotive supply chain. 'All 310 buses meet the stringent Euro 5 emission standards, helping to reduce pollutants such as nitrogen oxides and improve urban air quality,' Loke said. Loke reiterated that while diesel continues to serve immediate public transport needs, the ministry is actively preparing for a full transition to electric buses by 2037. Preparatory efforts include the development of charging infrastructure, technical training and maintenance facilities. 'Prasarana is playing a leading role in supporting national policies like the National Energy Transition Roadmap (and the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint 2021-2030. 'Their strong commitment reflects the kind of strategic and effective public transport transformation Malaysia needs,' he added.
