Military, veterans get free entry to California State Parks on Memorial Day
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Veterans, active and reserve military members can get into California State Parks for free on Memorial Day.
California State Parks has announced free admission for veterans, active and reserve military members at 142 state parks across the state on Monday, May 26, which is Memorial Day this year.

Veterans and military personnel have to show a valid military ID or proof of discharge, other than dishonorable or bad conduct, to receive free admission at participating state parks.
A few of the participating parks include California Citrus State Historic Park in Riverside County, Clay Pit State Vehicular Recreation Area in Butte County, Pismo State Beach in San Luis Obispo County, along with the California State Railroad Museum, Carlsbad State Beach, Torrey Pines State Beach, Crystal Cove State Park, Humboldt Redwoods State Park and Los Angeles State Historic Park.

'We are proud to welcome our veterans and service members on Memorial Day as a gesture of gratitude for their dedication and sacrifice,' said California State Parks Director Armando Quintero. 'For those who have stood watch, carried burdens, and protected freedom, may California's incredible landscapes offer rest, connection and peace.'
California Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. signed AB 150 (Olsen) in 2013, authorizing California State Parks to offer veterans, active duty and reserve military personnel from the United States Armed Forces and the National Guard of any state a reduced or free day use at participating state parks.

While I have no issue recognizing and celebrating the LGBTQ+ community, I am wondering why an entire month is set aside each year? Vandalism at Langley Pond Park causes limited availability for bathroom facilities
AIKEN, S.C. (WJBF) – Aiken County Parks and Recreation announced the Langley Pond Park bathroom facilities will now operate under limited hours due to 'continued vandalism.' In a statement posted to the county government Facebook page on Friday, officials state the bathrooms will only be open when park staff are on site. According to the department, staff are typically on site Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and seven days a week from the Memorial Day to Labor Day season. $1 entry for neighborhood pools, this weekend only
( — This Saturday and Sunday, the City's Department of Youth, Parks and Community Enrichment is inviting the community to take advantage of the $1 neighborhood pool entry, the City of Sacramento said. On June 14 and June 15, admission is only $1 per person at all neighborhood pools. Video Above: The splash pads now takes the place of the old wading pool which closed back in 2018 'We're excited that, with the opening of the newly converted Mama Marks Splash Pad and the reopening of Southside Pool, this will be the first summer since 2018 that all City aquatics facilities will be open,' said Sjon Swanson, YPCE recreation manager. 'We remain committed to ensuring that every community has access to safe and fun aquatic facilities this summer.' Throughout the summer, neighborhood pools will cost $3 for youth and $5 for adults for recreation swim through the summer. Officials said the open hours and days may vary.
