Lennon's love letter bemoaning Paul's snoring goes on sale
LONDON : A 1962 love letter from John Lennon to his future wife Cynthia, in which he complains about Paul McCartney's snoring, will be sold at Christie's next month, the London auction house said.
The 21-year-old Lennon wrote the letter over five nights in April 1962, during the Beatles' residency at the Star-Club in Hamburg.
'I love love love you and I'm missing you like mad,' wrote the songwriter, before adding a lewd suggestion.
The letter is expected to fetch up to £40,000 when it is sold on July 9.
In it, Lennon mentions close friend and original Beatles' bassist Stuart Sutcliffe, who had died days before, saying he had considered visiting his fiancée Astrid 'but I would be so awkward'.
He opposed Cynthia's plans to share a house with McCartney's then girlfriend Dot Rhone in Liverpool, saying: 'we would never be alone really … imagine having her there all the time when we were in bed – and imagine Paul coming all the time'.
He complained about his bandmate's bedtime habits, writing 'Paul's leaping about on my head (he's in a bunk on top of me and he's snoring) … Shurrup M carntey (sic)!…
Lennon signed off the letter: 'I love you I love you please wait for me and don't be sad and work hard be a clever little Cyn Powell'.
Cynthia Powell dated Lennon from 1958 and they married in August 1962, giving birth to their son Julian in April 1963.
They divorced in 1968, and a year later Lennon married Yoko Ono.

The future stepsisters, with a mutual dislike for one another, decide to intervene. While the 2003 film saw a body swap between Tess and Anna, things get 'freakier' this time around with Tess and Anna switching bodies with Lily and Harper. Before signing on to the sequel, Lohan ensured that Anna returned as a multi-faceted and relatable character. 'It was important to me that we explained who Anna is today and how she's evolved and the dynamic between her and her daughter as she's a single working mom. There are some basic points that I wanted to get across because I want people to see the movie and find a piece of it that they can grab onto and be like, 'okay, I get that',' she said. Directed by Nisha Ganatra, the movie also sees actor Chad Michael Murray reprising the role of young Anna's love interest, Jake. Shooting the sequel was a 'lovefest', said Murray. 'It was the same, but better. It felt very much like connective tissue to the first movie. Everyone loved going to work and no one wanted to go home.' Freakier Friday marks Lohan's big screen return. 'It's obviously nerve-wracking because you want it to be great and you want people to love what you do,' she said. 'As long as people are enjoying what I'm doing and it's making them happy, then I feel like I'm doing my job and that's what I'm here to do.' Justin Timberlake reveals ‘relentlessly debilitating' Lyme disease after world tour
LOS ANGELES, Aug 1 — Pop star Justin Timberlake told fans yesterday he has Lyme disease, a condition he described as 'relentlessly debilitating.' The 44-year-old former NSYNC frontman, whose world tour has just wrapped up, took to Instagram in reflective mood. 'This has been the most fun, emotional, gratifying, physically demanding, and, at times, grueling experience,' he said of a tour that was criticized by some fans as lackluster. 'Among other things, I've been battling some health issues, and was diagnosed with Lyme disease—which I don't say so you feel bad for me—but to shed some light on what I've been up against behind the scenes. 'Living with this can be relentlessly debilitating, both mentally and physically. When I first got the diagnosis I was shocked for sure. But, at least I could understand why I would be onstage and in a massive amount of nerve pain or just feeling crazy fatigue or sickness.' Lyme disease is caused by a bacteria often carried by ticks that live in woodlands throughout North America and Europe. Symptoms can include widespread pain, fatigue, and muscle weakness. In serious cases, patients could experience damage to the tissues, joints and immune system. The 'Can't Stop The Feeling' singer was in legal hot water last year after being arrested for drunk driving in a small town near New York. Timberlake, whose tumultuous relationship with Britney Spears was the inspiration for his 2002 smash 'Cry Me A River' later pleaded guilty to a lesser charge and was ordered to do community service. — AFP

‘Wednesday' Season 2 gets gothic global premiere in London

(Invision/AP pic) LONDON : Hit Netflix series 'Wednesday' expands the Addams Family world as it returns to screens nearly three years after the show launched in November 2022. Season Two of the dark fantasy series premiered at London's Westminster on Wednesday, with its cast and creators walking a purple carpet outside Central Hall and Queen Elizabeth II Centre. The new season sees Wednesday Addams, played by Jenna Ortega, returning to Nevermore Academy as a celebrated hero, much to her dismay. The tetchy teen puts her detective hat back on to solve new supernatural mysteries, while dealing with glitches in her psychic powers. Wednesday also faces another nuisance – family. Her little brother Pugsley, played by Isaac Ordonez, starts his studies at Nevermore and their parents are a frequent presence on campus. 'She's kind of knocked off her feet this season. So it's a lot of pressure,' said Ortega. The series' creators and showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar said 'Wednesday' returns 'bigger and better'. 'There's more of the Addams Family this season,' said Gough. 'We learn more about the characters you got to meet in Season One and they have their own storylines.' The sophomore season also introduces new characters, including Steve Buscemi's Nevermore principal Barry Dort and the Addams family matriarch Grandmama Hester Frump, played by Joanna Lumley. Pop star Lady Gaga makes a guest star appearance as a teacher in Part 2. Mother-daughter dynamics are at the heart of the new season, said Millar. 'It's about mothers and daughters, it's three generations of Addams women together. It's also about learning to not be in control of everything, for Wednesday. And it's really always about female friendship and female sisterhood,' he said. Ortega, 22, also executive produced the new season. Rather than control, it gave her 'freedom' she said. 'She's kind of our cast spokesperson. Any time I felt like something needed to be said or if I had any ideas, she was always like, 'come to me and we'll make it work'. She just looks out for us,' Emma Myers, who plays Wednesday's roommate Enid Sinclair, said. Filmmaker Tim Burton also returns as one of the directors and executive producers. 'Wednesday' Season Two will be released in two four-episode instalments, with Part One dropping Aug 6 and Part Two out on Sept 3.
