Justin Trudeau spotted at Katy Perry concert after their viral dinner and fans cannot keep calm: ‘This is kind of fab'

Hindustan Times5 days ago
Is this the soft launch of 2025's most unexpected couple? Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was spotted vibing solo at American singer-songwriter Katy Perry's Montreal concert and fans are convinced the romance rumours are real. Wearing a black T-shirt and pants, Trudeau kept a low profile in the VIP lounge, but couldn't escape eagle-eyed concertgoers who caught him grooving to Perry's set. Justin Trudeau spotted at Katy Perry concert
'Katy Perry's new man, Justin Trudeau already showing up for her a DAY after their first date, meanwhile, Orlando Bloom took 2 years to attend her tour. This is a HUGE upgrade,' one user wrote on X, while another joked: 'Wait, is she gonna be the president of Canada now?' Fans are already shipping the potential duo hard. One more commenter joked: 'Bro must be DOWN BAD if he's willing to go to a Lifetime concert.'
So are they dating?
The excitement comes just days after TMZ broke the news that Trudeau and Perry had dinner together at Montreal's fine-dining spot, Le Violon. The restaurant confirmed the pair spent about two hours chatting and keeping things low-key. No PDA, no selfies — just 'a chill vibe,' according to communications consultant Samantha Jin.
While there's no official confirmation from either camp, and reps haven't responded to comment requests, the clues are adding up. Perry is currently touring Canada after a recent split from longtime fiancé Orlando Bloom. Trudeau, who stepped down earlier this year after nearly a decade in power, announced his separation from wife Sophie Grégoire in 2023.
Whether this is a PR stunt, a power couple in the making, or just two people enjoying dinner and a show, one thing's for sure — people cannot look away. Safe to say Justin is absolutely having his California pop queen era.

Iceland has no armed forces, but that could change

Zipping over lava fields and fjords, the Icelandic coastguard were putting a chopper crew through its paces. The coastguard, which Iceland relies on instead of an army, does everything from rescuing wayward tourists to protecting undersea cables from sabotage. But they are starting to feel a bit overstretched. 'Three helicopters, two ships and one aeroplane is not enough,' sulks one officer after dropping off a colleague next to a steaming volcano. A founding NATO member, Iceland has relied mainly on America for its defence. But as Europe rearms and the Americans call out laggards, it is feeling the heat. 'They are putting pressure on us,' admits Thorgerdur Katrin Gunnarsdottir, the foreign minister. Iceland has spent just 0.2% of its GDP on defence in recent years. Home to some 400,000 people, the island matters. Americans use it as a base to watch for Russian submarines sneaking into the Atlantic. This geographical importance has allowed Iceland to outsource its own defences. 'We need to do more,' says Thorgerdur. There are plans to boost spending, perhaps to 1.5% of GDP. That will help keep watch over the Atlantic and build infrastructure that American and European ships, submarines and planes could use as wartime staging posts. But neglect leaves Iceland vulnerable elsewhere. It could be cut off if its cables were severed. It has no intelligence service to hunt saboteurs and spies. Thorgerdur says she supports setting one up. The coastguard would struggle if multiple ships sank simultaneously; Iceland has only recently begun spending on unmanned submarines and anti-drone technology. A cross-party task force is discussing what else to consider. Some want to take the next step. Arnor Sigurjonsson, until recently the Icelanders' top defence official, says the government in Reykjavik should bite the bullet and create an army. It is infantilising to outsource defence, he argues. He wants a thousand-strong force to defend airports and harbours in emergencies and says Icelandic infrastructure could be targeted by Russian strikes. 'They say that we are too few and too poor,' he says. 'This is simply not true.' Such views were once laughed at, but no longer. Though most remain sceptical about Arnor's proposal, Icelanders generally agree they should spend more. Thorgerdur takes no position on the need for an army, but notes that Luxembourg has a small force. Malta too has a proper fleet. 'I am not afraid of this debate,' she says. 'The main question is: how do we defend Iceland?' The issue has become more pressing because of Donald Trump's threats against (relatively) nearby Greenland, which Icelanders have followed with alarm. It is Mr Trump who would decide whether America will defend Iceland. He must surely be displeased that Americans have been footing the island's defence bill. It is a geological fact that Iceland is being torn apart as Europe and America drift away from each other. Volcanoes testify to this. Now Icelanders worry it could become a political reality too. That is rekindling debate over whether to join the European Union. A referendum is planned on resuming accession negotiations. Polls indicate it will pass. Icelanders, says Pawel Bartoszek, a pro-European MP, are looking towards Europe more than ever. The two people doing most to convince them to join the EU, he says, are 'Vladimir Putin and, in many ways, Donald Trump'. "Respect Terms Of Your Visa": US Warns Indians Overstaying In Country

New Delhi: The US Embassy in India has issued a stern warning to visa holders, reminding them to respect the terms of their US visa and authorised period of stay in the United States and making it clear that any violation could lead to visa revocation and possible deportation. In a post on X the US Embassy said, "Respect the terms of your US visa and your authorized period of stay in the United States. Remaining in the United States past your I-94 "Admit Until Date" can lead to severe consequences such as visa revocation, possible deportation, and ineligibility for future visas. Overstaying may permanently affect your ability to travel, study, or work in the United States." Respect the terms of your U.S. visa and your authorized period of stay in the United States. Remaining in the United States past your I-94 'Admit Until Date' can lead to severe consequences such as visa revocation, possible deportation, and ineligibility for future visas.… — U.S. Embassy India (@USAndIndia) August 4, 2025 Also on Monday, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Congresswoman from Georgia's 14th District in a post on X said, "End Indian H1-B visas replacing American jobs instead and stop funding and sending weapons to the Obama/Biden/Neocon Ukraine Russia war." End Indian H1-B visas replacing American jobs instead and stop funding and sending weapons to the Obama/Biden/Neocon Ukraine Russia war. — Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene🇺🇸 (@RepMTG) August 4, 2025 Her remarks came while referring to the latest statement by US President Donald Trump, who on Monday said that the United States will "substantially raise" the tariff paid by India for buying "massive amounts of Russian Oil", stating that much of the oil purchased from Moscow is being sold in the open market "for big profits". Trump wrote on Truth Social, "India is not only buying massive amounts of Russian Oil, they are then, for much of the Oil purchased, selling it on the Open Market for big profits. They don't care how many people in Ukraine are being killed by the Russian War Machine. Because of this, I will be substantially raising the Tariff paid by India to the USA. Thank you for your attention to this matter!!!" India has defended its sovereign right to conduct energy policy based on national interest. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Monday came out strongly in defence of the country's decision to import oil from Russia, despite criticism from the United States and European Union. According to the MEA, India's imports from Russia are driven by necessity and aimed at ensuring predictable and affordable energy costs for Indian consumers. The MEA described the criticism of India's trade policy as "unjustified and unreasonable," asserting that India will take necessary measures to safeguard its national interests and economic security.
