Gino is plotting his return to television with a new travel series.
Gino D'Acampo is planning his return to television with a new travel series and a foray into acting, The Mirror has revealed. The celebrity chef stepped back from the public eye following allegations of sexually inappropriate behaviour were made against him.
After the allegations, which Gino has completely denied, the This Morning chef was removed from ITV's programming in February. Now the Italian presenter has revealed plans to return to the small screen with a new travelogue, to be filmed later this year.
He also is trying his hand at acting and is involved in a series shot in Ireland in which he plays a mechanic. Speaking about what is next for him, he said: "We have a TV project for later this year in September, I want to go all around Malta, it's a show called An Italian In Malta.
'The idea is to show everyone all over the world a bit about the country - I want to find the perfect restaurant, the perfect recipe, the perfect spot, I will speak to the local people, what they cook and how they cooked 200 years ago."
Speaking about the mystery series, which sees him acting for the first time, he shared: "I am playing a part in a series, my part is this Italian-American mechanic that is always in trouble with the police or always in trouble with the law and then he became a mechanic and he's helping the main character in the show. This is acting now, I'm not becoming a real mechanic, I'm useless at stuff like that."
Gino opened his first international restaurant in Malta called Luciano at the start of June to rave reviews. Unlike in the UK, he is enjoying life of a superstar again out there. "I think Malta has done a lot for me, the Maltese have been very welcoming and have said 'hi I'm pleased that you're here' and I am so grateful for that,' he told Vibe Fm Podcast.
The 48-year-old has 'firmly denied' accusations of inappropriate behaviour including using sexualised and aggressive language over a period of 12 years made in an ITV News investigation. He said they were 'simply not in my nature'.
Following the allegations, it was claimed that his Gordon, Gino and Fred's Road Trip co-star Gordon Ramsay had distanced himself from the presenter. But Gino insists they're still firm friends.
He said: "I think there is this misconception that when he was in his 30s in London he was chasing the stars and the pressure in the kitchen in the 90s was high, things were flying around the kitchen but now Gordon is a different man, he's a very generous, cool guy, but you don't want to annoy him. Well I can, I do shows with him - we go around the world. If I FaceTime here he would answer of course, but if I FaceTime him and I'm on a show he will be really annoyed."
