NFL analyst thinks Saints are best set up to support Shedeur Sanders

It's unlikely Derek Carr is in New Orleans at the beginning of 2026, unless the apparent disconnect between him and the team is resolved during the season. Their vested interest in the upcoming quarterback class, shows the New Orleans Saints are preparing for the future at the position.
Whether it's a quarterback from the next two draft classes or Spencer Rattler, Brett Kollmman of the Bootleg Football podcast, believes Taliese Fuaga, Kellen Moore and Chris Olave is a good start at building around Shedeur Sanders specifically.

'They have their left tackle, they have their WR1, and they have a head coach that understands the position. Could work there,' Kollmman posted to express why the Saints are the team in the top-10 that gives Sanders the best chance at a successful career. The thought process can be expanded beyond Sanders, however. All of these aspects would help any quarterback feel confident.
Fuaga looked like a franchise cornerstone as a rookie. New Orleans may have doubts at other parts of the offensive line, but there's no question they have the answer at left tackle. A young quarterback will have his blindside protected from Day 1. No confidence in the offensive line can be one of the biggest hindrances to the development of a young quarterback.
Having a dependable receiving option would give the prospect someone they can immediately look to when things go wrong. It also allows him to not feel he has to do it all by himself. The security blanket of Olave gives quarterbacks a reliable option that gets open frequently with precise route running.
Lastly, Moore has often verbalized his commitment to not be steadfastly committed to one form of offense. That preference to stay versatile gives confidence he'd put the quarterback in the best position to enhance his development.

Lions Trade Idea Would Land Shedeur Sanders From Browns

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Detroit Lions have Jared Goff under center and he has been playing well since being acquired from the Los Angeles Rams. Last season, Goff finished fifth in the NFL MVP voting. While the Lions have their quarterback of the present, Goff is now 30 years old. He has played well, but Detroit could use a better backup quarterback option and a potential quarterback of the future. Right now, the Lions have Hendon Hooker and Kyle Allen behind Goff. However, a new trade suggestion would see the team land a major name to be the new primary backup. Photo byAnne Erickson of Heavy Sports has suggested a surprising trade between Detroit and the Cleveland Browns that would feature Shedeur Sanders. Read more: Browns Insider Reveals Major Update Regarding Dillon Gabriel In her trade suggestion, Erickson had Sanders being shipped to Detroit in exchange for Hooker and a 2026 fifth-round pick. "The pitch is that the Lions get Sanders, and the Browns get (Hendon) Hooker and a 2026 fifth-round pick," Erickson wrote. "The Lions have a plethora of picks lined up for 2026, so losing a fifth-rounder shouldn't hurt too much. They would still have their coveted first and second-round picks. Plus, the Browns have a huge quarterback room, so it would be a better fit for Hooker, who seems to need more time to develop." Of course, this trade would only happen if Sanders isn't working his way up in the Browns' quarterback competition. He's facing stiff competition from Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel, and Kenny Pickett. The Browns' fan base has done nothing but talk about and get excited about the former Colorado star since he was drafted in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Sanders has a legitimate chance to become a franchise quarterback in the NFL. His arm talent is more than capable of handling that role and he has shown a great drive to be special so far in Cleveland. If this trade were on the table, the Lions would be wise to pursue it. However, there is a very good chance that the Browns would have zero interest in considering moving on from Sanders at this point. Expect to continue hearing Sanders' name as the season draws closer. He's one of the most popular talking points in the NFL right now. For more Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.

Caitlin Clark brings back Shedeur Sanders' signature celebration

Caitlin Clark brings back Shedeur Sanders' signature celebration Shedeur Sanders' iconic "watch flex" celebration became a trademark of the former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback throughout his final season. Celebrities and top athletes began using the celebration after highlight moments, such as game-winning goals in soccer or home runs in baseball. The celebration received so much acclaim that it was featured in the EA Sports College Football 25 video game. Thanks to WNBA superstar Caitlyn Clark, Sanders' celebration is back in the spotlight. Clark paid homage to the Cleveland Browns' rookie quarterback before the Indiana Fever's game against the Chicago Sky. Clark has been absent from the starting lineup recently as she recovers from a left quad strain she suffered against the New York Liberty on May 24. The former Iowa star seems ready to get back on the court, with her next chance being June 10 against the Atlanta Dream. Clark and Sanders were arguably the most talked-about college athletes over the past two seasons, as both athletes wrapped up their college careers with significant hype. Clark is in her second season in the WNBA after being the No. 1 overall pick in 2024, while Sanders is entering his first year in the NFL after falling to the fifth round in the NFL draft. Sanders is competing for the starting quarterback job in Cleveland and impressed Browns' coaches with his performance during OTAs. Follow Charlie Strella on X, Threads and Instagram. NFL free agency rumors: Saints checked in on four-time Pro Bowl RB

NFL free agency rumors: Saints checked in on four-time Pro Bowl RB Former Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb is slated to sign with the Houston Texans, pending a physical scheduled during his visit on Monday per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. If all goes well, the former All-Pro back will join fellow Pro Bowler Joe Mixon, forming what could become one of the NFL's top backfield duos. While Houston had long been considered the frontrunner to land Chubb, the New Orleans Saints were reportedly among the teams expressing interest in his services. Chubb, still working his way back from a devastating knee injury suffered in 2023, brings intriguing upside as a potential No. 2 option — making New Orleans' interest understandable. Since parting ways with Latavius Murray after the 2020 season, the Saints have struggled to find a consistent complementary back to pair with Alvin Kamara. Over the last few years, they've attempted to fill that void by signing Jamaal Williams in 2023 free agency and drafting Kendre Miller in the third round that same offseason. Unfortunately, neither has delivered as hoped — Williams was a disappointment production-wise, and while Miller has flashed potential, he's struggled to stay healthy. As the 2025 season approaches, New Orleans should remain aggressive in seeking stability at the position. Currently, the depth behind Kamara includes Miller, former LSU standout Clyde Edwards-Helaire, and sixth-round rookie Devin Neal — a trio with plenty to prove heading into training camp. If all goes well, the best-case scenario for New Orleans is a healthy and productive season from Kendre Miller, whose explosiveness with the ball is evident when he's on the field. Still, expect the Saints to keep their eyes open for additional backfield help all the way through to Week 1.
