Transparent Idaho now offers public education data

The Idaho State Controller's Office has expanded its Transparent Idaho website to include data detailing how schools and districts spent public money and pay their employees.
The Idaho State Controller's Office has published public records and data about state government on Transparent Idaho since the free online data portal launched in 2012.

But that effort has been expanding in recent years.
In 2021, the Idaho Legislature passed House Bill 73, which requires uniform accounting, budgeting and financial reporting procedures for Idaho cities, counties and urban renewal districts. That information has been added to Transparent Idaho, the Idaho Capital Sun previously reported.
In October, the Sun reported financial data for 198 Idaho cities is now available on Transparent Idaho.
'We've had state data for 10-plus years, but our vision has always been to have local governments on Transparent Idaho as well,' Idaho State Controller Brandon Woolf said in a phone interview Tuesday afternoon.
The Idaho State Controller's Office announced the latest Transparent Idaho addition on Monday — the posting of new education financial data.
The new education data includes detailed enrollment figures for schools and districts, workforce salary data and transactions made by education providers, such as school districts and public charter schools.
Woolf said publishing the data isn't meant to serve as a 'gotcha' to public school districts and charter schools. Instead, Woolf said publishing the data can build trust with Idahoans and encourage the public to become informed and engaged with its government and the decisions policymakers set.
'The public being able to track and trace and understand where the taxpayers' money is being spent can go a long way to helping set the right types of policy and making good policy decisions,' Woolf said.

The education data is already publicly available. School districts are required by law to post it on their own websites, and Idaho Education News has been publishing enrollment, salary data, test scores, per-pupil expenditures, higher education go-on rates and more on its education data site for years.
But publishing the education data on Transparent Idaho means the state government is now publishing education transparency data for public schools, districts and public charters schools in one spot, alongside other financial transparency data related to state government, cities and counties.
Transparent Idaho only publishes data about schools, districts and charter schools that receive public funding. Data for private schools, homeschool programs and other private education choice programs do not appear on Transparent Idaho, the Idaho State Controller's Office said in a press release issued Monday.
Moving forward, Woolf said he will work on adding additional demographic information and data visualization tools to Transparent Idaho — with an eye toward allowing the public to have more data to make apples-to-apples comparisons between schools and districts.
All of the new education data is available free online at https://transparent.idaho.gov.

Amazon deliveries halted in some rural areas

GLENBORO — A local entrepreneur is concerned about the vulnerability of small towns after his Amazon deliveries were halted due to labour uncertainty at Canada Post. Liam Kelley, owner of Kelley Laser Engraving Services, told the Sun Thursday that for three weeks, deliveries to his business from Amazon have been disabled unexpectedly. The businessman said the stoppage causes him to worry that small communities are at risk of being stripped of services they depend on. 'Having a service like that, that just goes mysteriously dark … it's a little scary,' Kelley told the Sun. 'At any moment, something we rely on can be cut off.' Glenboro Mayor Charles Radford confirmed to the Sun that he has also seen Amazon deliveries stop. For his business, Kelley orders bulk quantities of small items like magnets and coasters through Amazon. An order to his home was cancelled three weeks ago, and then followup orders were frozen, and his address is now treated as invalid when he inputs it for delivery options. In an email to the Sun, a spokesperson for Amazon confirmed that there are new issues with delivery to some areas in Canada. 'Amazon is temporarily unable to ship to addresses that are uniquely served by Canada Post, because we are currently unable to guarantee delivery times,' the spokesperson wrote. 'This includes PO boxes, and pickup points and communities that are only serviced by Canada Post.' The spokesperson encouraged customers to switch to delivery provided by alternative carriers, or to use a nearby Amazon Counter pickup point. The stoppage demonstrates how Glenboro and other small communities are vulnerable, Kelley said. 'It's kind of a town issue. It's a thing that puts the town's survival in jeopardy,' he said. Glenboro had a population of 544 people in the most recent census, in 2021. Kelley said he believes that small communities need to work on being more self-reliant, such as by manufacturing things locally. 'God help us if we lose Canada Post.' Kelley said he now can't obtain certain items that he planned to engrave. He travels the one-hour drive to Brandon to search for materials, but some items are not available, especially in bulk quantities, he said In the Canada Post dispute, developments continued Thursday in the effort to secure a contract between the Crown corporation and unionized workers. The federal government asked union employees to vote directly on the latest offers that the postal service made. Federal Jobs Minister Patty Hajdu announced in a social media post that she's using her powers under the Canada Labour Code to send the Crown corporation's latest offers to Canadian Union of Postal Workers members for a vote. The Canada Industrial Relations Board will be directed to conduct the vote 'as soon as possible,' she said. Canada Post spokesperson Lisa Liu said the corporation welcomes the vote. Hajdu said it's in the 'public interest' to give the roughly 55,000 CUPW members an opportunity to vote on the offers, which Canada Post has said are its 'final' proposals. Error! Trump-linked stablecoin lands on the project launched by his wealthiest VIP guest

Trump-linked stablecoin lands on the project launched by his wealthiest VIP guest originally appeared on TheStreet. Justin Sun, the Chinese-born billionaire founder of the TRON blockchain, revealed on X on 11 June that the first USD1 stablecoin has officially been minted on TRON. Sun called the development as: "a small step for USD1, a giant leap for stablecoins!" A stablecoin is a type of cryptocurrency that, unlike usually volatile cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, aims to maintain a stable value. Pegged 1:1 to the U.S. dollar, USD1 is a stablecoin launched by World Liberty Financial, a decentralized finance (DeFi) project linked to the Trump family. While President Donald Trump himself acts as the chief crypto advocate at the project, his sons Donald Jr., Eric, and Barron act as its ambassadors. The family holds a 60% stake in the project. Notably, TRON founder Justin Sun was the wealthiest guest at the private dinner gala hosted by Trump for the top 220 holders of the TRUMP meme coin on May 22. Sun bought TRUMP coins worth $19 million to make it to the VIP event. As previously reported, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) had sued Sun in March 2023 for allegedly selling unregistered securities. After Trump won the presidential election in November 2024, Sun invested $30 million into the World Liberty Financial. Thereafter, the SEC, Tron, and Sun jointly urged the court in February 2025 to stop the proceedings. As per DeFiLlama, the stablecoin market is worth $251 billion, and USD1 accounts for a mere 0.0086% share. Besides USD1 and the eponymous meme coins, the Trump family is also engaged with other crypto ventures, such as Bitcoin mining and crypto exchange-traded funds (ETFs).
