East Bengal take on Namdhari with quarters spot at stake
2
Kolkata: East Bengal FC take on in-form Namdhari FC at the Salt Lake Stadium on Wednesday with a place in the Durand Cup quarterfinals at stake.
Namdhari under Argentine coach Fernando Capobianco are currently topping Group A with back-to-back wins.
East Bengal, on the other hand, have played only once, starting their campaign with a comfortable 5-0 rout of South United FC.
Six group winners and two second-best teams will advance to the quarterfinals. However, given the tournament's format, head-to-head count may play a significant role in determining which team will make the knock-out stage.

If Namdhari win on Wednesday, they will automatically progress with a perfect record in the group stage.
East Bengal can also advance as the group topper with a win against the I-League side because of the head-to-head rule. South United and Indian Air Force have one point each from two matches and are out of the reckoning.
"It's true that our team is in better conditions than the first game. But let's go game by game. Namdhari have won two matches and have six points. So it's important for us to get the win tomorrow because there can be a head-to-head (situation)," East Bengal coach Oscar Bruzon told reporters before supervising the team's practice session on Tuesday.

Key midfielder Souvik Chakrabarti is set to return but PV Vishnu will continue to be sidelined because of an injury.
All eyes will also be on whether newcomers Moroccan forward Hamid Ahadad and Argentine defender Kevin Sibille would be used in the match.
Bruzon, however, made it clear that participation of the players would depend on match situations.
"This is preseason and we need to be smart in using the players," he said.

Travis Kelce's blunt retirement answer at 36 sparks fan reaction (Image via Getty) Travis Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, is heading into his 13th NFL season and turns 36 just before Week 5 when the Chiefs face the Jacksonville Jaguars on ESPN's Monday Night Football. At age 35 now, many wonder if this might be his final year on the field. Still, Kelce remains a major part of the offence and his media and business interests off the field make retirement talk natural. During a media session in early August 2025 in St. Joseph, Missouri, he gave a sharp answer when asked about his training‑camp memories, hinting at his long view on football next season and beyond. Travis Kelce's 7‑word retirement reply speaks volumes At a press conference in St. Joseph, Missouri, on a Wednesday during training camp, reporters asked the three‑time Super Bowl winner, Travis Kelce, what would be his favorite memory if this camp turned out to be his last. He simply said, 'Man, ask me that when I retire.' T hat brief line shows he's not thinking about retiring any time soon at least not in the middle of camp. Head coach Andy Reid has likewise said Kelce remains key to the team, adding that there's been no concrete retirement talk between them. General manager Brett Veach has also confirmed Kelce looks motivated and is under contract for the coming season. Travis Kelce Still Hungry, But Future Quietly Shapes Up Even following a terrible Super Bowl LIX defeat and a career-worst season, Travis Kelce keeps training under Andy Reid. At a press conference in May 2025, teammate Patrick Mahomes stated Kelce is trying very hard to outperform last year and does not behave like someone prepared to retire. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Get ₹2Cr life cover@ ₹700 p.m. ICICI Pru Life Insurance Plan Get Quote Undo Also Read: ' Until We Got Married': Kansas City Chiefs Star Patrick Mahomes Opens Up About How Brittany Supported Him Since High School Patrck Mahomes remarked that Kelce's physique is better than it has ever been as he exercises in Florida. Jerry Jones just explained why Micah Parsons isn't signed and it's straight chaos
Jerry Jones Thought a Handshake Locked In Micah Parsons. (Credit-X) Just when Cowboys fans thought the Micah Parsons contract drama couldn't get messier, Jerry Jones opened his mouth and dropped a quote straight out of the 1980s. While speaking to NFL Network's Jane Slater, Jones explained why he was shocked that no deal had been finalized with Parsons. His reasoning? Because he thought they had a verbal understanding, the same way he claims he bought the Cowboys decades ago. Yep, this saga now includes trade demands, ghosted agents, and a billionaire owner reminiscing about handshake deals while his star defender remains unsigned. Welcome to the Jerry Jones Show: where loyalty is old-school and the contracts? Apparently optional. Jerry Jones believed the Cowboys had a deal with Micah Parsons based on a handshake-style agreement The drama dates back to March 2025. According to Jones, he and Parsons had a conversation that he believed established the framework of a new contract. He thought the hard part was done even though nothing was signed or officially submitted. Speaking to Slater, Jones shared the story of how he bought the Dallas Cowboys in 1989: 'I bought the Dallas Cowboys with a handshake. It took about 30 seconds. I gave the number, shook hands, the details we worked out later.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Learn 57+ Languages Easily with AI [Join] Talkpal AI Sign Up Undo He went on to say that back then, even a multi-million dollar decision came down to a coin flip. So, naturally, he assumed a similar approach with Parsons would move the deal forward. But obviously Parsons didn't view the conversation the same way. According to reports, when his agent followed up later, the Cowboys were stunned to learn that no formal deal had been agreed upon. The result? A complete breakdown in communication and a frustrated Parsons who's now reportedly requested a trade. To his credit, Jones did clarify that in modern NFL business, there's no skipping the paperwork: 'There's no question that in the case of a player contract, you have to have it in writing. All parties do.' The Micah Parsons trade buzz is getting louder and Jerry's comments aren't helping Let's not forget, this entire saga exploded after Parsons scrubbed all Cowboys references from his social media and reportedly requested a trade last week. The silence from his camp since then has been deafening, and Jerry's remarks while classic may only add fuel to the fire. As it stands, Dallas still hasn't spoken to Parsons' agent. Jones even admitted he's unsure if the star linebacker will be ready for Week 1. It's a strange standoff made even stranger by the fact that both sides apparently walked away from the same conversation with totally different interpretations. Unless Jones and the front office can get serious about putting numbers on paper, they risk losing more than a contract. They risk losing the locker room, the fanbase's trust and the future of their defense. Mike Vrabel just broke the internet with blood on his face after Patriots-Commanders brawl at camp
Mike Vrabel jumps into Patriots-Commanders brawl and walks out with blood on his face. (Image via X) If you thought NFL training camp was just about drills and walkthroughs, Mike Vrabel just reminded everyone that it's also a battlefield. During Tuesday's joint practice between the New England Patriots and the Washington Commanders, things got so heated that a full-blown brawl broke out and Vrabel, in peak 'football guy' fashion, didn't hesitate to throw himself right into the chaos. Mike Vrabel proves he's all-in, not just yelling toughness, but literally wearing it Here's what went down, rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson got into it with a Commanders defender after a heated rep during pass protection. Pushes turned into punches, and both sidelines swarmed in, a classic preseason pile-up. But the jaw-dropping part? Mike Vrabel, New England's new head coach, charged into the middle of the fight to break it up and came out of the mess bleeding. No joke. Cameras caught Vrabel with a gash on his right cheek, reportedly from accidental contact with rookie offensive lineman Will Campbell. The guy wasn't just coaching the Patriots, he was bleeding for them. What makes this story even more legendary? Vrabel didn't storm off or call it quits. He shrugged it off, stayed in the drill, and even cracked a classic Vrabel line to the guys around him, 'The guy couldn't get through and tried starting something. I wasn't gonna let that shit slide though' That's not just coach-speak, that's a man sending a message. If there were any doubts about whether Vrabel could lead the Patriots into a new era after Bill Belichick, this moment pretty much erased them. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Exclusive game bonus awaits POPG Learn More Undo Veterans and young guys alike were reportedly hyped by how Vrabel handled it. Tight end Hunter Henry said the team feeds off his energy. Wideout DeMario Douglas called it a "tone-setter." And honestly? It's hard to imagine Belichick ever bleeding for a summer practice fight. Insiders say this might be the most 'football guy' moment of 2025 training camp Once the images of Vrabel's bloody face hit the internet, NFL Twitter/X exploded. Analysts couldn't help but chime in either. Some called it the most 'hard-nosed moment' of any camp so far. For Patriots fans still mourning the end of the Belichick era, Mike Vrabel just gave them a brand-new blueprint for leadership: no monotone pressers, no hoodie mystique just full-contact culture setting, with a side of blood.
