NHAI holds review meet to assess preparations for Amarnath Yatra
The meeting was aimed at assessing the preparedness related to highway riding surface, lane markings, road safety measures as well as deployment of dedicated quick response teams.
A detailed review was held for all stretches along the 228 km-long Jammu-Srinagar section of NH-44 that falls on the pilgrimage route under NHAI's jurisdiction. The Amarnath temple or shrine is located in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir.
NHAI chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav emphasised on the need for comfort and safety of both devotees and commuters. Alok Deepankar, Member (Technical), NHAI instructed field officers to ensure adequate deployment of manpower and machinery to manage emergencies related to inclement weather, or flash floods and landslides.
He also directed officials to expedite work on the under-construction sections.
NHAI also contributed a fleet of five ambulances through Quazigund Expressway Pvt. Ltd. for hospitals in Ramban and Anantnag districts, which were flagged off by J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
Apart from NHAI Chairman and Member (Technical), the J&K Government's PWD Secretary Bhupinder Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Ramban, Shokit Mattoo ACR Ramban, and NHAI officials from J&K field offices were also present during the meeting.

How to buy FASTag Annual Pass online To buy FASTag Annual Pass, follow the steps below – Go to the Rajmarg Yatra app or the NHAI/MoRTH website. Demand for suspension of toll collection grows in landslide hit areas of mandi district.
1 2 3 Kullu: Calls are mounting to suspend toll collections on the landslide-battered Chandigarh-Manali highway in Himachal Pradesh, with retired war hero Brigadier Khushal Thakur accusing the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) of having "no legal or moral ground" to charge commuters. Thakur, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), told The TOI on Friday that the Takoli toll plaza in Mandi district should be shut until road conditions improved. He said the stretch between Mandi and Takoli had been closed repeatedly for more than a month due to frequent landslides, causing severe disruption. The Takoli and Dohlunala toll plazas were closed in July 2023 after the flooded Beas river damaged the road. Takoli resumed operations in Jan, but Dohlunala remains shut amid protests over its legality, with locals noting that two toll barriers cannot be within 60 km — the two are 57 km apart. FASTag Annual Pass to be launched on Independence Day; 5 Things Travellers Should Know
The new FASTag Annual Pass is all set to roll out from August 15, the day India celebrates its 79th Independence Day . From this day, daily highway commutes in India will get pocket friendly. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will roll out a FASTag Annual Pass which is aimed at helping regular travellers save on toll charges. The new FASTag annual pass is priced at INR 3,000. The pass offers either 200 toll crossings or one year of validity — whichever comes first. Let's have a look at five important things every traveller should know. Eligibility The annual FASTag pass is only for private, non-commercial vehicles like cars and jeeps, among others. Heavy commercial vehicles including buses, trucks, or passenger taxis are not eligible. What makes you eligible: The FASTag must be active It should be correctly affixed to your vehicle The FASTag must be linked to a valid vehicle registration number. Your vehicle should not be blacklisted It should also not be involved in any ongoing disputes related to toll payment. Price and Validity The Annual Pass comes with an annual fee of INR 3,000. Once you cross the 200 limit or the one-year mark (whichever comes first), the pass expires. Regular charges will apply after that.
