Lucknow: Under the UP govt's Vision 2030 for the redevelopment of Mathura, the Mathura-Vrindavan Development Authority has launched a series of projects to enhance the pilgrim experience.
It includes beautification of Keshav Vatika at Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi, construction of Vasudev Vatika near Yamuna Barrage in Gokul, and seven grand entrance gates across Mathura, among others. The govt has sanctioned Rs 62 crore for these initiatives.
"The primary goal of these projects is to enrich Mathura's religious, cultural and environmental heritage, thereby offering devotees a pleasant and memorable pilgrimage experience," said an official spokesperson on Thursday.
Officials said the entrance gates will be constructed at seven strategic points: Repura Jat, Yamuna Expressway, Pagal Baba Temple (Vrindavan Road), Lakshmi Nagar Chauraha, Kotvan Border, Mathura-Gokula Marg, Sonai Border and Sasni Border. These gates, to be designed in exquisite Rajasthani stone-carving style, will feature twelve majestic 10-ft-tall statues of Lord Krishna.
With a budget of Rs 21.50 crore, these gates will not only reinforce Mathura's cultural and religious identity but also revive the city's ancient glory.

Likewise, at the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi complex, Keshav Vatika—spanning 3.5 acres—will undergo a modern and captivating makeover. Allocated Rs 7.3 crore, the garden will be enhanced with a musical fountain, vibrant lighting, stone railings, pathways, benches and lush greenery. The centerpiece will feature a spectacular light and sound show in Bhagwat Bhawan, depicting the divine leelas of Shri Krishna. It is scheduled to debut before Janmashtami this year.
Alongside, the Vasudev Vatika is being developed on the left bank upstream of the Yamuna Barrage over 13 hectares, with a budget of Rs 34.06 crore. It will feature an entrance gate, an entry plaza, a market area, a waterbody, green spaces, amphitheatre, pathways, huts, restrooms, plantations, lighting and parking facilities.
The project includes solar lighting and panels, interlocking tiles, themed murals and a robust drainage system. Informational hoardings and plans for a local food street alongside extensive plantation will further enhance the visitor experience.

Plans afoot to develop craft & handloom village in Maheshwar

Indore: The Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board (MPTB) is planning to involve local artisans from Kharia village in Maheshwar through choupals, aiming to transform the village into a craft and handloom hub. In Maheshwar, the board intends to develop a textile village, cafeteria, traditionally designed home stays, and restaurants that will be operated by the local community. Kharia village in Maheshwar is home to more than 100 weavers. "A choupal is planned for next week with artisans at Kharia village in Maheshwar to understand their needs and explore how the craft tourism village could help transform their lives. This initiative will give them an economic tool to enhance their income and a platform to showcase Maheshwari textile to all discerning tourists coming to see the beauty of quaint Maheshwar and expanse of grand Narmada," said tourism and culture principal secretary Sheo Shekhar Shukla. The choupal will be attended by villagers, representatives from NGOs, and senior officials from the tourism department. MPTB has submitted a proposal to handlooms development commissioner for developing "textile tourism" in Maheshwar. The villages of Kharia and Keriakhedi in Maheshwar accommodate approximately 146 weavers. The estimated cost of the project is approximately Rs 511 crore. The proposed project will also feature an experience centre, cycling tracks and common areas, alongside scenic ghats, all aimed at enhancing local infrastructure and attracting tourists. The tourism board is also working on establishing another craft village in Dhar to promote the renowned Bagh print. Kukshi and Bagh, notable areas in Dhar district, are famous for their unique Bagh print — a traditional hand-block printing technique using natural colours and vegetable dyes. Take steps to ease tariff pain of exporters, CM urges PM

Chennai: In the wake of the US imposing an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods, chief minister M K Stalin urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to introduce special financial relief measures for exporters. In a letter to Modi, Stalin said, "To provide immediate relief, Union govt needs to consider introducing a special interest subvention scheme for all exporters affected by tariffs to improve liquidity and reduce cost burdens and accelerate Free Trade Agreements and bilateral arrangements to offset high-tariff market risks." Considering the scale of the problem, a special financial relief package including a moratorium on principal repayment, similar to the one implemented during COVID is necessary to support exporters, Stalin said. "This higher dependency on the US market clearly implies that tariff impact on TN will be disproportionately greater than for most other Indian states," Stalin said. TN accounted for 28% of India's textile exports in 2024-2025, the largest contributor among all Indian states, he said. "Especially, our textile sector employs nearly 75 lakh people and with aproposed 50% tariff, an estimated 30 lakh jobs are at immediate risk. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo To mitigate this crisis, it is essential to address structural issues that have long hindered our export competitiveness," he added. Appreciating efforts of the Union govt to achieve a mutually beneficial trade agreement with the US, Stalin said, "Textile sector urgently needs support in two aspects correction of the GST inverted duty structure for the man-made fiber value chain by bringing the entire chain under a 5% GST slab, and exemption of import duty on all varieties of cotton."
