Father, son from Limbang cross borders to join solidarity rally for Zara Qairina
MIRI (Aug 12): A father and son from Limbang crossed state borders and endured a two-hour journey to join thousands demanding justice for the late Zara Qairina Mahathir at the Sipitang Esplanade here on Sunday.
Eric Chua, 62, and his 15-year-old son Clifford carried the Sarawak flag as they made their way to the solidarity rally for the late 13-year-old schoolgirl.
The businessman said their presence was a statement of unity from Sarawakians standing with millions across Malaysia in demanding justice for Zara regardless of racial or religious boundaries.
'This is our message to all Malaysians — bullying is not something that should ever cost someone their life. Cases like this must never happen again, especially when it involves children in dormitories. We want all Malaysians to unite and put an end to bullying,' he said.
Eric said transparency in the ongoing investigation was the crux of this issue.
'I have been tracking this case from the beginning when it went viral. The government and all agencies involved in investigating Zara's case must follow proper procedures. We are demanding a transparent investigation to ensure this case is resolved fairly and justly,' he said.
The peaceful rally drew over 5,000 participants from Brunei, Sarawak and Labuan, and they converged on the Sipitang Esplanade despite challenging weather conditions.
Many among the multi-racial crowd carried banners, state flags and placards bearing the hashtag #justice4zara while dressed in white clothing to demonstrate their peaceful intentions.
Meanwhile, lawyers representing the family of Zara in a statement on Monday night said the post-mortem following the exhumation of her body revealed signs of injury.
Counsels Shahlan Jufri and Mohd Luqman Syazwan Zabidi said the injuries were during the eight-hour autopsy, but stressed they would not disclose further details until the official media report was released. lead solidarity rally unity Zara Qairina Mahathir

PKR veep condemns assault on Rafizi's son, calls for thorough probe
Roland Engan MIRI (Aug 14): PKR vice-president Roland Engan has strongly condemned the attack on the 12-year-old son of Pandan MP Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, calling it an 'act of desperation of a coward'. In a statement today, Roland described the incident as a form of 'dirty or violent tactics' aimed at suppressing freedom of expression and speech. 'What happened to Rafizi's family could happen to anyone in the political fraternity or in other sectors in future,' he said. He emphasised that politics in a democratic nation like Malaysia should remain a non-violent struggle. The PKR leader stressed that differences in political philosophies should be welcomed and celebrated by all civilised citizens, rather than met with violence or intimidation. Calling for swift action from authorities, Roland said the demand for justice was not based on political privilege but on the fundamental rights of all Malaysians. 'Therefore, a prompt and thorough investigation should be initiated, not because Rafizi's family is more important or more valuable than other families, but because all Malaysians deserve to live safely in in this country,' he said. Police confirmed that Rafizi's son was assaulted at a shopping mall in Putrajaya yesterday afternoon. Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the incident was believed to have occurred at 2pm at the mall's pick-up and drop-off area. 'The incident occurred when the victim was reportedly with his mother and their driver,' he told Bernama. Investigations are ongoing. attack lead rafizi ramli Roland Engan son
