BJP's Praveen Khandelwal calls INDI alliance 'opportunistic', hits out at Akhilesh Yadav's 2027 poll claim

India Gazette18-06-2025

New Delhi [India], June 18 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Praveen Khandelwal on Wednesday criticised Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, accusing the opposition-led INDIA bloc of indulging in 'politics of opportunism' after Yadav said the alliance would contest the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election together.
Reacting to Yadav's statement, Khandelwal said the INDI alliance only stays united when it is convenient, but splits when it is not.
'Firstly, what INDI alliance is he (Akhilesh Yadav) talking about? Where it is not known who is a friend or an enemy. We have seen this in the elections of the Lok Sabha as well, and after that, we have been seeing it continuously in the elections of various states. This is not an alliance but the politics of opportunism in which, when there is convenience, we become one, but when there is inconvenience, we stand against each other,' Khandelwal told ANI.
Akhilesh Yadav, during a press conference in Lucknow on Tuesday, said that the INDIA alliance 'remains intact' and would jointly fight the 2027 elections in Uttar Pradesh.
Responding to this, Khandelwal claimed Yadav was fearful of the BJP's growing popularity in the state under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's leadership.
'The big promises that Akhilesh Yadav is making are because he is scared that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath, the government is working and making space in the hearts of people of Uttar Pradesh,' he said.
On June 17, the SP chief said, 'We don't care about statements made by others. Our INDIA alliance is intact...Those who want to leave the alliance are free to do so. The INDIA bloc will fight the 2027 UP Assembly elections'
Yadav also criticised the state government over the Maha Kumbh mela stampede, stating that the government announced compensation for Kumbh victims, but would not officially name the victims.
He said, 'This (UP) government will give Rs 5 lakh in compensation to the Maha Kumbh (stampede) victims, but will not reveal their names officially.' (ANI)

TMC's Shashi Panja urges BJP to behave as responsible opposition in aftermath of gang rape in law college, assures strict action against all accused

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], June 27 (ANI): Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shashi Panja on Friday expressed her distress over the horrific gang rape of a student at a law college in South Kolkata. She urged the BJP in West Bengal not to politicise the incident and behave as a responsible opposition. She assures strict action against all the accused. Addressing a press conference, Shashi Panja said, 'There was an immediate postmortem and dissection to look at the names and the religion. You have to condemn the incident. You are now trying to show photographs. Trinamool Congress Student wing is not teaching the students to rape. The police took immediate action, and within 12 hours of the complaint, three people were caught. They are in custody, and the investigation is on. Their mobile phones have been seized, and the victim's statement has been taken. She has named the accused. It has been taken seriously. The BJP cannot even think the way Kolkata police swung into action. They started maligning since such swift action is missing in the BJP-ruled states. If they want to be in Bengal as a responsible Opposition, then they have to behave responsibly.' She hit out at the BJP and accused the Central government of holding the Aparajita Bill. 'The Aparajita Bill, which was passed in our Vidhan Sabha before 10 months, who has stopped it from becoming a law? BJP has put it on hold at the centre. Body of a woman is not the object to do politics. We have to respect her body. Such incidents cannot be used for comparison between states based on the number of incidents. West Bengal is the only state to introduce the Aparajita Bill. In some of the states rape accused have been garlanded. You won't see this in West Bengal. Everyone knows which party does this. When they raise such protests we have to tell them to see that the states where you are ruling how you respect the women. This is a serious incident and full investigation will take place. The guilty will be punished,' she further said. A female student was allegedly gang-raped inside a law college in Kolkata's Kasba on Wednesday evening. The police have arrested all three accused within 24 hours. The three accused, named as Monojit Mishra (31), Zaib Ahmed (19), and Pramit Mukhopadhyay (20), were former students or staff members of the same law college. According to the police, the accused named in the FIR will be produced before the A.C.J.M. of Alipore, South 24 Parganas, with a prayer to remand them to Police Custody for the purpose of a proper investigation into the case. The alleged sexual assault took place between 7:30 pm and 10:50 pm on Wednesday within the law college premises. According to the official, one of the accused allegedly committed sexual assault, while the others were involved in the crime. The victim's family filed a police complaint against the accused, and the police have taken swift action in the matter. Two of the accused, Monojit Mishra and Zaib Ahmed, were arrested on Thursday, near Siddhartha Shankar Roy Sishu Udyan, close to Talbagan Crossing in Kolkata. Pramit Mukhopadhyay was arrested later the same night at his residence. The police have seized the mobile phones of all three accused. The official had visited the site and kept it under protection till they had done a forensic examination. They requested custody remand for further investigation. (ANI)

Tripura to fill vacancies, open coaching centres for students: CM

Agartala: Tripura CM Manik Saha on Friday announced that the state govt has been working to fill vacant posts across various departments and plans to open special coaching centres for students. Speaking at a programme for distributing appointment letters in the education (school) and health and family welfare departments, Saha said, "We have appointed 222 candidates through a transparent process. Their success is a result of hard work — something that was a distant dream under the previous regime, where jobs were distributed based on political affiliations." The CM emphasised that the govt expects employees to uphold transparency and honesty in public service. He urged them to focus on implementing central and state schemes effectively to ensure benefits reach the people. In the last two years, 19,484 jobs have been provided in the health and education sectors. Additionally, over 5,700 positions have been filled through outsourcing. In the 2024-25 financial year, around 305 people secured jobs under the national career service scheme. "Unemployment rate has significantly declined over the years under the BJP's regime. The unemployment rate reduced to 1.74% in 2023-24 from 10% in 2018-2019. This signifies we are on the right track and we are fulfilling the promises of providing employment," Saha claimed. Highlighting digital governance, he said Tripura is the only state to implement e-office systems from the cabinet down to panchayat level in a short time. "All files are being digitised, which will ensure proper management and storage," he added. "We have decided to open coaching centres in every sub-division in science and English. Some bindings are there. More new general degree colleges are being opened, and competitive exam centres are also being opened," he added.
