IDOC land proposed as organic farming showcase
NIZAMABAD: Fresh proposals are emerging in the district, spurred by the Union government's push to develop Food Processing Units (FPUs) and promote organic cultivation across India. Given the district's agricultural output, one suggestion is to transform open land at the Integrated District Offices Complex (IDOC) into an organic demonstration plot and educate farmers through field visits.
This land holds history: before the IDOC was built near Kalur village, Nizamabad's former collector and camp office sites included open areas cultivated with crops. A paddy plantation there, initiated under former collector Ronald Rose, even served a farm mechanisation programme.
Post-construction, about 25 acres of open land persist, following the removal of various structures, parking and a helipad. It's currently landscaped with flowering plants and shade trees, maintained by the Nizamabad Municipal Corporation (NMC) for about `10 lakh yearly. NMC Superintendent Engineer Murali Mohan Reddy mentions a pending proposal to split the maintenance cost evenly.

Nashik civic body starts repairing city roads, fills over 6,000 potholes in a week
Nashik: With the rain taking a break, the Nashik Municipal Corporation's (NMC) public works department has commenced extensive road repair operations across the city. The civic administration announced on Tuesday that it had successfully filled 6,226 potholes across the six divisions within the last week alone. These crucial road repair efforts began ahead of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis's two-day visit to Nashik city on Sunday and Monday. During his visit, the chief minister travelled through various city roads while attending multiple programmes. The condition of roads in Nashik had significantly worsened due to continuous heavy rainfall last month, posing considerable risks to motorists. Furthermore, roads excavated by Maharashtra Natural Gas Ltd (MNGL) for laying piped natural gas pipelines added to the deterioration. While the NMC had initially planned to begin repair works from May 15, persistent showers prevented these efforts. Now, with the rainfall having ceased, the civic body has been able to fully embark on its road repair agenda. An NMC official, while talking to TOI, said they conducted a fresh survey of the city roads and found around 9,000 potholes in various parts of the city. "The roads that were dug up by the MNGL and other agencies for various purposes deteriorated the road conditions of most of the city roads. We have also started repairs of such roads. We also gave work orders to the agencies concerned for road repairs and resurfacing of some stretches of the city roads amounting to Rs 90 crore," the official added The official said all the city roads are to be repaired in the next couple of weeks.

NMC chief issues notices to 5 officials
Nagpur: Despite a blanket ban on hawkers on Sitabuldi Main Road and their relocation to Maharajbagh Road, many vendors returned to set up stalls on the banned stretch on May 25. The hawkers' act, violated instructions issued by top civic officials, has prompted immediate action from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). Municipal commissioner Abhijeet Chaudhari on Monday issued show cause notices to five senior officials, questioning their failure to enforce the orders. Those served notices include two assistant municipal commissioners (Dharampeth zone and encroachment dept), and a superintendent (enforcement dept). The officials have been asked to explain why disciplinary action should not be initiated against them under the Maharashtra Civil Services (Conduct) Rules and the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act, 1949. According to the notice, multiple instructions were issued earlier to ensure no hawkers return to the Sitabuldi Main Road. However, their reappearance indicates a serious lapse in supervision and enforcement. The civic body has warned of strict disciplinary action if satisfactory explanations are not submitted within three days.
