AT A time when the northeastern region is reeling under floods, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha seems to have upset some state BJP leaders with his actions. On Tuesday, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to the CMs of NE states about the flood situation, Saha was in Bihar to attend a felicitation programme. Later, he also posted a photo on social media of him meeting singer Kumar Sanu, and wrote: 'An absolute delight to interact with a music icon who has brought joy to millions through his soulful voice.' This prompted some party leaders to question why Saha did not cancel his trip to Patna when the northeastern region was facing a crisis.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan has been frequently traveling outside the Capital since taking charge as Union Agriculture Minister. Many of his visits have been to his home state, Madhya Pradesh, where he was the CM for four terms between 2005 and 2023. Hence, his absence was notable at a major event in Bhopal on Saturday—the launch of various projects during the Devi Ahilyabai Mahila Sashaktikaran Mahasammelan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the gathering, which was attended by several BJP leaders, including Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, while Union Ministers Tokhan Sahu, Ram Mohan Naidu and Muralidhar Mohol participated via videoconferencing. Chouhan was in Haryana that day, attending the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan organised by his ministry. His absence at the Bhopal event surprised many given his legacy of launching several women-focused initiatives such as the Ladli Laxmi Yojana, which earned him the moniker 'mama (maternal uncle)'.

The Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust is organising a grand event for the second pran pratishtha of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has been invited as the chief guest for the consecration ceremony on June 5. However, the organisers are wary of too many people converging in the holy city for the event. In the backdrop of the Maha Kumbh stampede that left many dead, VHP leader and Trust chairman Champat Rai on Tuesday urged people not to come to the temple in large numbers on the day. He said even the guest list is not very elaborate due to difficulties in making arrangements.

At Indore event, MP minister Kailash Vijayvargiya stirs row — ‘Don't like women wearing skimpy clothes'
Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya has stirred up the hornet's nest yet again. At a recent public event held in Indore, Vijayvargiya said he didn't 'like girls who wear skimpy clothes'. In a speech he made at the event, Vijayvargiya, a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Madhya Pradesh's minister for urban development and parliamentary affairs, drew comparisons between Indian and Western culture, saying: 'Here in India, we consider a girl beautiful when she dresses well, wears jewellery, and adorns herself gracefully. In the West, a woman wearing fewer clothes is considered beautiful. I don't agree with that'. Continuing his comparison, he said: 'There's a saying in Western countries that a woman who wears fewer clothes is considered very beautiful, just as a leader who speaks less is considered good. But I don't believe in that. I believe a woman is a form of the goddess. She should wear nice clothes. I don't find women in revealing clothes attractive'. No animal sacrifice in the open: U.P. CM ahead of Bakrid
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday directed senior officials to ensure that no animal sacrifice takes place in the open during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha (Bakrid) festival that will be celebrated on Saturday (June 7). He also instructed authorities to ensure that blood is not drained into open sewers and emphasised adopting a zero-tolerance policy against any troublemakers to maintain peace and public order. The CM, who turned 53 on Thursday, issued these directives during a law and order review meeting that he chaired at Gorakhnath temple in Gorakhpur. At the temple, he also offered prayers and paid floral tribute to Mahant Avaidyanath's statue. Besides, Yogi reviewed preparations for the International Yoga Day celebrations scheduled for June 21. He instructed officials to make arrangements for the live telecast of PM Narendra Modi's address and to install large display screens at all major city intersections. He enquired about the pending construction work at Ayush University and directed the divisional commissioner to ensure its completion within a week. The university is scheduled to be inaugurated by the President of India on June 30. Later in the evening, several public representatives and BJP workers gathered on the temple premises to greet the CM on his birthday.
