At Indore event, MP minister Kailash Vijayvargiya stirs row — ‘Don't like women wearing skimpy clothes'
Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya has stirred up the hornet's nest yet again. At a recent public event held in Indore, Vijayvargiya said he didn't 'like girls who wear skimpy clothes'.
In a speech he made at the event, Vijayvargiya, a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Madhya Pradesh's minister for urban development and parliamentary affairs, drew comparisons between Indian and Western culture, saying: 'Here in India, we consider a girl beautiful when she dresses well, wears jewellery, and adorns herself gracefully. In the West, a woman wearing fewer clothes is considered beautiful. I don't agree with that'.
Continuing his comparison, he said: 'There's a saying in Western countries that a woman who wears fewer clothes is considered very beautiful, just as a leader who speaks less is considered good. But I don't believe in that. I believe a woman is a form of the goddess. She should wear nice clothes. I don't find women in revealing clothes attractive'.

He then went on to say: 'Sometimes girls come to take selfies with me. I tell them – 'Beta, come in proper clothes next time, then we'll take a photo'.'
Vijayvargiya's team have refused to comment on the issue. Meanwhile, the Congress claimed the comments 'showed the BJP mentality'.
'Their mentality has been exposed to the public,' Congress spokesperson Abhinav Barolia told The Indian Express.
This is not the first time Vijayvargiya has made comments on women's clothing. While attending a Hanuman Jayanti event in Indore in 2023, he remarked: 'I won't lie on Hanuman Jayanti… but girls these days wear such filthy clothes… We call women goddesses, but they don't appear that way… They look like Shurpanakha (a demoness from Hindu mythology). God has given you a beautiful body, at least wear decent clothes. Teach your children values'.

India's ‘Chenab Trap' Chokes Pakistan's Terror Route; Even China On Edge – Here's How
New Delhi: In a moment that may go down as a masterstroke in India's strategic playbook, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 6 unveiled the world's tallest railway bridge – the Chenab Bridge – along with a series of infrastructure marvels in Jammu & Kashmir. While hailed as engineering triumphs, these structures hide within them a fierce geopolitical message – India is silently fortifying its Himalayan frontier, and Pakistan and China are not happy. At 359 metres tall, taller than the Eiffel Tower, the steel-arched Chenab Bridge is part of the 272 km Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla railway link (USBRL) and connects the Kashmir Valley to the Indian rail grid for the first time. But beyond the awe and applause, it is the military and counter-terror implications that have sent shockwaves across the border. Why Pakistan, China Should Be Worried The bridge sits near the treacherous Pir Panjal Range, a mountainous region that has for decades acted as a gateway for Pakistani infiltrators, including ISI-backed terrorists from the Lashkar-e-Toiba and the Jaish-e-Mohammed. From Poonch and Rajouri to the lush forests near Pahalgam, this route has seen some of the most notorious attacks in India's history. Now, with the Chenab and Anji bridges completed and the valley more accessible to India's armed forces year-round, this infiltration corridor is on the verge of collapse. 'This is not just a bridge. It's a steel-fisted message to our enemies,' said a top defence expert, requesting anonymity. The bridge does not only deter Pakistan. It tightens India's grip over the Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh axis, critical to countering Chinese aggression along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Troops, weapons and surveillance units can now move seamlessly – no more seasonal delays or logistical gaps. Hidden Checkmate This 'Chenab Chakravyuh' – as called by military strategists – is a geo-strategic snare apart from being about connectivity. With 24/7 surveillance cameras, anti-corrosion technologies and blast-resistant materials, the bridge is built to withstand earthquakes of 8.0 magnitude and even terrorist bombing attempts. 'They tried to divide us by using religion and terror. We are responding with steel, resolve and railways,' said a senior Indian Army official deployed in the region. Built with inputs from Indian Institute of Technology and the Defence Research, the Development Organisation (DRDO) and global experts, the Chenab Bridge uses high-tensile steel and advanced cable-crane systems. It is designed to last 120 years even under wind speeds of 260 kmph. And with two Vande Bharat trains flagged off from Katra to Srinagar, civilian integration of the region is now irreversible. What rattles Rawalpindi most is that this is blocking terrorists and rendering their long-game obsolete. For years, Pakistan has exploited difficult terrain and porous routes to fuel unrest in the valley. That door just slammed shut. Even Pakistan Field Marshal Asim Munir must now contend with the fact that Pir Panjal no longer favours infiltration, it favours India.

Bengaluru stampede: Min Ramalinga Reddy admits ‘some lapses' on part of govt; Hebbalkar, HK Patil deny
Belagavi: Transport minister Ramalinga Reddy on Friday admitted to 'certain administrative lapses' in connection with the Bengaluru stampede but argued that the govt alone cannot be blamed. Speaking to media persons in Belagavi, he said: "Some lapses occurred, but the govt cannot be held solely responsible." He noted that while the state already organised an official felicitation for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team in front of Vidhana Soudha, a separate celebration at Chinnaswamy Stadium, hosted by the RCB management and stadium authorities, was unnecessary. This event drew an overwhelming crowd of 2–3 lakh fans, far exceeding the stadium's 35,000 seating capacity. "They publicly announced free tickets and failed to obtain police permission for the event," Reddy said. "RCB and the stadium authorities must be held accountable." However, the minister acknowledged shortcomings on the part of the govt as well. "Our intelligence should have picked up on this. The police should've insisted on permission. If refused, they should've stepped in to restrict the event," he said. Responding to BJP's demand for the resignation of CM Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, and home minister G Parameshwara, Reddy accused the opposition of double standards. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like People Born 1940-1975 With No Life Insurance Could Be Eligible For This Reassured Get Quote Undo "In the past, stampedes and terror attacks took lives — be it Kumbh Mela in UP or Pahalgam in Kashmir. did any top BJP leader resign?" he asked, drawing comparisons to national-level incidents. Govt taking action across the board: HK Patil Law & parliamentary affairs minister HK patil rejected claims that police officers were being scapegoated. "The govt has taken swift action — not only against police officials but also against the RCB management and event organisers. FIRs have been filed," he said. He emphasised that a one-member commission, headed by retired high court judge John Michael Cunha, has been constituted to conduct a thorough investigation. "We are acting transparently. What more do they expect?" he said, also highlighting the chief minister and deputy chief minister's prompt outreach to victims' families immediately after the incident. RCB should pay Rs 1 crore compensation: Hebbalkar Women and child welfare minister Laxmi Hebbalkar demanded that RCB and the Karnataka State Cricket Association pay Rs 1 crore compensation per victim, stating that the franchise has 'earned substantial profits' and should now show responsibility. On the matter of intelligence failure, she called it part of the broader investigation and accused the opposition of misleading the public for political mileage. All three ministers were in Belagavi on Friday to attend an event of the Reddy community, where they spoke to media persons. Dakshina Kannada crackdown: Keep politics out
Two back-to-back murders in Dakshina Kannada, each laced with communal undertones, have finally jolted the government to action. Police officers are now cracking down on lumpen elements across communities – a much-needed move to restore order. The government has rightly overhauled the police top brass in Dakshina Kannada and neighbouring Udupi, signalling a firm resolve to address the escalating communal tensions. But even as law enforcement begins to act decisively, Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje has chosen a troubling path. She has written to Justice N K Sudhindra Rao, chairman of the Police Complaints Authority, alleging police harassment of 'innocent' Hindu activists. A copy of the letter has also been marked to the National Human Rights fact finding committee on DK murders to submit interim report next complaint is both misplaced and misleading. As a constitutional authority, she should stand by the law, not those who flout it. The police have been doing their duty in a district teetering on the edge. Her letter, devoid of specifics, amounts to a blatant interference in the enforcement of law and order. The claim that GPS tracking is being used to target Hindutva activists holds no water – modern technology tools are legitimate instruments to track criminal suspects irrespective of their religious identity. Who exactly are these 'innocent' people she wants to shield? Many are known offenders. For instance, Suhas Shetty whose recent murder sparked outrage was a rowdy sheeter with two murder charges against him, all booked when BJP was in power. Karandlaje's portrayal of police action as one-sided is factually incorrect. The list of anti-social elements who the police propose to extern from the district includes those from both Hindu and Muslim communities. Such interference from a union minister not only undermines the police action to restore peace but also sends dangerous signals that political patronage can shield anti-social elements from the due process of law. The Prime Minister should take serious note of Minister seeks PCA, NHRC intervention over 'targeting' of Hindutva groups in Dakshina police must be allowed to continue their operations unhindered. They should act even against those occupying top positions if they engage in hate speech or incite violence. Politicians who poison the minds of the youth and use them as pawns for narrow electoral gains, while their children study abroad, should be held accountable. The state government must back the police not just with moral support, but with robust legal resources that ensure that these criminals don't get a reprieve from the court. The coastal districts need healing and that will happen only when politicians stop stoking fires, and allow the law to take its course.
