Selangor to draft new legal framework after gas pipeline fire
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced that legal and technical experts will be engaged to develop stricter regulations. The new framework may include by-laws, updated One-Stop Centre (OSC) terms, state enactments, or federal legislation.
'This is one of the terms of reference of the special committee, which will look into legal frameworks that can be enforced,' said Amirudin.
The state is also collaborating with Universiti Selangor, the Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC), and Central Spectrum (M) Sdn Bhd (CSSB) to strengthen water industry development.
Yesterday, Amirudin confirmed the formation of a special committee to review the full investigation report and propose long-term solutions. The committee will include state and federal representatives, Petronas, and technical agencies.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the matter was among the key issues discussed during today's Cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in light of recent bullying incidents, including the tragic death of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir. 'The Prime Minister made it clear that the government will not tolerate bullying in any form or allow such cases to continue without accountability,' said Fahmi. He said that Cabinet ministers have begun aligning actions across ministries, particularly those managing educational institutions and student dormitories, to ensure the proper implementation of the newly amended provisions, which came into force in July. 'We want every ministry to fully understand that under these amendments, bullying is clearly defined and legally recognised as a criminal act. Further enforcement steps will follow,' he told reporters after attending the 20th edition of the Majlis Amanat Perdana Perkhidmatan Awam (MAPPA XX) gathering here today, which brought together over 30,000 civil servants both in person and virtually. The Penal Code (Amendment) Act 2025 and the Criminal Procedure Code (Amendment) Act 2025, which aimed at more comprehensively addressing all forms of bullying, including cyberbullying, were passed in the Dewan Rakyat on Dec 10 and in Dewan Negara on Dec 16, last year. Fahmi also revealed that the Prime Minister had raised concerns over the conduct of certain individuals and public figures, describing their behaviour as 'disrespectful' and confirming that authorities would take appropriate action. Meanwhile, he said that, during MAPPA XX, Anwar also reiterated the important role of civil servants in safeguarding peace, public order, and national progress. 'The Prime Minister delivered several important messages, including how much of the progress we're enjoying today is the result of bold changes and reforms, including the implementation of the Public Service Remuneration System,' said Fahmi. He also welcomed Anwar's announcements related to the public service, calling them a relief to many, and hinted at more to come. Amirudin: Selangor allocates RM26.62m to 873 schools for 2025 upgrades and repairs
KLANG, Aug 13 — The Selangor government has allocated RM26.62 million to 873 schools in the state under the 2025 Selangor State School Assistance Programme. Of the total, Sekolah Agama Rakyat (People's Religious Schools) received the largest allocation of RM11 million, followed by Chinese national-type schools (RM6 million), Tamil national-type schools (RM5 million), Chinese independent schools (RM2 million), national primary schools and national secondary schools (RM1.62 million) as well as mission schools and national-type secondary schools, each with RM1 million. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the funds could be utilised for various purposes, including repairing infrastructure to provide a more conducive learning environment. He said the latest allocation marks an increase of RM124,000, bringing the total assistance disbursed for the same purpose since 2019 to RM311.92 million. 'The increase is to meet the needs of national schools, and for Tamil national-type schools. We have also extended assistance to the association of Tamil school principals and headmasters,' he told reporters after the handover ceremony here today. Commenting on the bullying issue, Amirudin said the state government has instructed schools under the administration of the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) to curb such behaviour and ensure a safe environment for students. He added that his administration's approach to preventing unhealthy behaviours, including drug abuse among students, focuses on the physical as well as the social aspects. 'I will first look into schools under JAIS, while for the rest, we will try to liaise with the State Education Department, as they fall under the Education Ministry's jurisdiction.
