Ampang Jaya cops investigate nightmare rape of girl by 61-year-old man while mum consents and looks on
KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 — A 61-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman have been arrested by city police for investigation into the horrifying rape of the latter's 13-year-old daughter last year.
Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail said police have questioned the duo and three others, The Star reported today.
'We have questioned five people, including the suspects.
'The interview with the 13-year-old victim at the Child Interview Centre will take place tomorrow,' he was quoted as saying.
From initial investigations, the girl was raped by the 61-year-old and her mother had witnessed the act.
'Recently, she overheard a conversation between the two suspects about meeting at a hotel so that the man could raped her again and it was consented by her mother,' Azam was quoted as saying.
That was when the girl left her house and filed a police complaint, he added.
Earlier media reports indicated that the 61-year-old was the 36-year-old woman's boyfriend.
Azam said the mother worked as a security guard while the 61-year-old is a businessman.
He said the two suspects were arrested on June 27 evening and are under remand until July 4.

Ruwan Amaresh Shaun Ponniah was sentenced by Kuala Lumpur sessions court judge Norma Ismail after he pleaded guilty to one charge of investment fraud under Section 179(b) of the Capital Markets and Services Act 2007 (CMSA). The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) said the court took into consideration nine other similar charges under Section 179(b) of the CMSA. This consideration was made under Section 171A of the Criminal Procedure Code, which allows the court to bundle related or admitted offences into a single sentence, it said in a statement. Ruwan, a former associate director of debt capital markets at CIMB Investment Bank, was arrested and charged by the SC last September with 10 charges under Section 179(b) of the CMSA and an additional charge under Section 58(1) of the same Act. The SC said Ruwan also pleaded guilty today to the one charge under Section 58(1) of the CMSA for carrying out fund management activities without a licence. The court sentenced him to two years' imprisonment and ordered the jail term to run concurrently with the first offence. Ruwan will have to serve an additional six months' jail if he fails to pay the RM1 million fine. The SC said Ruwan had falsely represented to seven investors that he would invest their monies in shares listed on the Malaysian and foreign stock exchanges. However, the monies were for other purposes without the investors' knowledge. The offences took place between October 2018 and June 2020. Ruwan's guilty plea was made pursuant to his application for a plea bargain under Section 172C of the Criminal Procedure Code. He had claimed trial to all the charges and was granted bail of RM210,000 with one surety. On Feb 5, upon Ruwan's application to the High Court for a reduction in the bail amount, the sum was reduced to RM105,000. However, Ruwan was unable to post bail and has been held in remand at Sungai Buloh prison.

The mother allegedly consented to the act and arranged a meeting at an unspecified hotel in Kuala Lumpur. Ampang Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail confirmed that both suspects were arrested on the same day. The woman, a security guard and her boyfriend, a local trader, were detained by the Ampang Jaya Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel. Investigators cited damning text messages proving the mother's active involvement in planning the assault. 'The correspondence unequivocally shows the boyfriend's intent to rape the victim, with the mother's full approval. 'Further investigations revealed the girl had previously been raped by the same man in 2024, an assault that her mother allegedly witnessed," he said in a statement today. Federal Police Sexual, Women and Child Investigation Division's (D11) principal assistant director Senior Assistant Commissioner Siti Kamsiah Hassan revealed the victim had been previously assaulted at age 12. The girl awoke during the mid-2024 incident to find the suspect raping her, as her mother observed. Initial investigations found that both suspects tested negative for drugs and had no prior criminal records. The court approved a seven-day remand until July 4 for further interrogations. The case is being investigated under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code for rape, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years' imprisonment and caning. Authorities have recorded statements from five individuals, including the two suspects. The victim is scheduled to give her formal testimony at the Child Interview Centre (CIC) on July 1. Sabah CM: No interference from state govt, let legal process decide fate of assemblymen charged with corruption

He added that decisions regarding their government appointments would be made once the situation becomes clearer. 'We respect the law, and we will let the legal process take its course. The GRS state government will not interfere in any investigation or legal action on any of its government leaders,' he said in a statement here today. 'As for their position in the present government, we will consider this carefully in due course after all relevant information and reports have been received,' he said.
