[UPDATED] Man armed with machetes, metal cutter damages Hindu temple
AMPANG JAYA: An unemployed man has been arrested for damaging a Hindu temple in Taman Sri Ampang here. District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail said police received a report on the incident today. "The complainant, a 34-year-old man who is the temple committee secretary, claimed that he saw CCTV footage of an unknown man entering the temple and leaving shortly after about 6am. "At 8.29am, the complainant saw the same individual entering the temple carrying a hammer, a metal cutter, two machetes and a keris." He said the suspect allegedly damaged a trishula, a three-pronged weapon with significant symbolism in Hinduism. He said the complainant claimed he rushed to the temple, but was chased away by the suspect, who brandished a machete and allegedly threatened to decapitate him. "The complainant called the police for assistance. A police patrol arrived at 8.38am and arrested the suspect. "The suspect has been identified as a 33-year-old unemployed man who has no prior record." He said the suspect tested positive for methamphetamines and amphetamines. He said police seized a hammer, a bolt cutter, a bag, two machetes, a keris and a motorcycle. "The suspect is believed to have been high at the time of the incident. He claims he heard voices. "The suspect is expected to be produced at the Ampang Jaya magistrate's court tomorrow to obtain a remand order. "We have opened investigations under Section 295 and Section 506 of the Penal Code for destroying, damaging or defiling places of worship or sacred objects with the intent to insult a religious group and criminal intimidation." Under Section 295 of the code, offenders face up to two years in jail or a fine or both. Under Section 506 of the code, offenders face up to seven years in jail or a fine or both. Azam said police were also investigating the case under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive, Explosive Subtances and Dangerous Weapons Act, which carries up to two years in jail upon conviction.

Body Of Missing Rohingya Girl Found In Drain In Ampang
Subscribe to our FREE A young Rohingya girl was suspected to have drowned after she fell into a drain and swept away by strong currents near the MPAJ hall in Kampung Cheras Baru, Ampang on 19 May. Yesterday morning (20 May), her body was found some six kilometers from the point of the drain where she reportedly fell in, Malay Mail reported. Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail said the body of the 10-year-old Rohingya victim, Nur Aida Nur Muhammad, was discovered in Sungai Kerayong, Taman Cheras Indah, at 11.20am. Meanwhile, the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department's Water Rescue Team (PPDA) operations commander Mohamad Riduan Akhyar said the victim's body was stuck along the riverbank, and was handed over to the police for further action. Another child also fell into the drain but was rescued It was reported that an 11-year-old child also fell into the drain with Nur Aida. Fortunately, members of the public managed to save the child from being swept away by the strong currents. Both children were on their way home from school when the incident occurred. Nur Aida's father, Nur Muhammad Tufail Ahmad, expressed his deep sorrow over not being able to fulfil his daughter's wish for a family holiday. He mentioned that his eldest child (of four) frequently asked him to take the family on a holiday, but he couldn't oblige due to work commitments. 'A few days before the incident, she said she wanted to go out for a trip. I promised I would take her, but never got the chance. Now, I'm filled with regret,' he said remorsefuly. He added that he has come to terms with the loss, but deeply feels the absence of his daughter especially given her helpful nature and how often she helped her mother, who is currently in confinement after giving birth to their fourth child. Police arrest two for extortion over nude video blackmail in Ampang
KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 — Police arrested two men for extortion after they threatened to release a nude video of a victim and his girlfriend unless a sum of money was paid. Ampang Jaya district police chief ACP Mohd Azam Ismail said the two suspects, aged 18, were nabbed in Ampang on Sunday. Police also seized three mobile phones to aid in the investigation. Investigations revealed that the victim received a threatening WhatsApp message from an acquaintance on April 11, demanding money. As a result, the victim paid RM2,800 in instalments. 'One of the suspects then demanded an additional RM1,000, prompting the victim to lodge a police report,' he said in a statement today. Mohd Azam also said urine tests indicated that both suspects tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Background checks showed that one suspect had four previous criminal records, including drug-related offences, while the other was clear of any negative activities. 'Both suspects have been remanded for four days, starting Tuesday. The case is being investigated under Section 385 of the Penal Code for extortion and Section 292 for possession of obscene material under the Penal Code,' he added.
