Ex-aide to MP arrested for allegedly posting unauthorised video on Facebook
Ampang Jaya district police chief ACP Mohd Azam Ismail said the man, 43, was arrested at 11.30 am on Friday in Pasir Mas, Kelantan after the MP discovered the video post on a Facebook account named 'Mohd Syahrizal' on July 30.
'The post resulted in negative comments by other Facebook users that stressed the individual and affected their reputation and psychological state, causing the MP to feel threatened and afraid should anything happen to them due to the Facebook account holder's actions.
'A Samsung and a Vivo mobile phone belonging to the suspect were seized to facilitate investigations,' he said in a statement today, adding that the suspect has been remanded for four days from Aug 9 till tomorrow.
The case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code, Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. — Bernama

Public universities logged 31 bullying cases from 2014 to 2025, Zambry tells Dewan Rakyat
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12— A total of 31 bullying cases were reported at public universities from 2014 to 2025, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir said. He said the cases involved physical and cyberbullying, which could stem from social, psychological and campus environmental factors, social media influence and lack of parental supervision. Zambry said the Higher Education Ministry (MoHE) has taken several measures to address bullying and enhance the safety and well-being of students at all public universities, including instilling a zero-tolerance culture towards bullying. 'This includes a bullying case reporting mechanism, improving campus security systems through wider installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and implementing bullying awareness and education programmes,' he said during Minister's Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat today. He was responding to a question from Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden (PN-Alor Setar) on measures taken by MOHE to curb bullying incidents in public and private higher education institutions. On a supplementary question from Afnan regarding the death of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Reserve Officer Training Unit (PALAPES) cadet officer Syamsul Haris Shamsudin, Zambry said the case is under investigation. 'Coincidentally, yesterday I visited the late Syamsul Haris' family and heard directly from his mother about her son's condition. She has officially requested that the investigation be reopened,' he said. At the same time, Zambry said the Defence Ministry has set up a special committee involving the Home Ministry and the Health Ministry to ensure a complete report is prepared as soon as possible. Syamsul Haris, 22, was reported to have died while undergoing PALAPES UTM training at the Army Combat Training Centre (PULADA) in Ulu Tiram, Johor on July 28. Meanwhile, Zambry stressed there is no discrimination against any individual, including persons with disabilities (PWDs), who meet the requirements to pursue higher education. He said the ministry's policy is clear in safeguarding the rights of PWDs to further their studies, including providing basic facilities required at higher education institutions. No room for anyone to exploit upside-down flag issue, says Sim
GEORGE TOWN: Penang DAP has warned against any third party trying to exploit the recent case of a national flag being flown upside down in Kepala Batas. State DAP chairman Steven Sim Chee Keong said the matter has been handed over to the police for investigation and there is no room for anyone to take advantage of the situation. In a statement, Sim said that if anyone tries to threaten or disturb Penang residents over the issue, the party will respond by taking to the streets with the people and distributing the Jalur Gemilang as a symbol of unity. "Penang DAP firmly upholds peace and harmony in the state, in line with the spirit of patriotism that we all take pride in," he said. Sim's statement follows remarks by Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, who said he would hold a "class" for a hardware store owner if the latter was not charged by Thursday. "The way forward is through the collective determination of every Malaysian, regardless of race or religion, to preserve unity, strengthen harmony, and nurture love for our beloved homeland, Malaysia," he added. Earlier today, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong urged Akmal to stop issuing threats to "personally educate" a shop owner over an improperly hoisted national flag. In a Facebook post, Wee had said he feared such public intimidation would only backfire and make Malaysians "think twice" about proudly displaying the Jalur Gemilang. Yesterday, police had said the hardware store owner, who was detained for allegedly displaying the Jalur Gemilang upside down in front of his premises in Kepala Batas, had been released on police bail. A total of 16 police reports had been lodged nationwide, with 12 of them in Penang and four in other states.

Without naming anyone, state DAP chairman Steven Sim Chee Keong stressed that there is no room for any third party to take advantage of the incident. He said Penang DAP would take to the ground to stand with the people if anyone attempted to threaten or disturb them over the matter.
