'The Summer I Turned Pretty's' Christopher Briney And Girlfriend Isabel Machado Were Roommates First

Elle3 days ago
As an integral part of the love triangle that powers Amazon Prime's The Summer I Turned Pretty, Christopher Briney's personal life is of the utmost interest to fans. However, the 27-year-old actor does not have as many ups-and-downs off screen as he does in the hit series while playing Conrad Fisher. Briney has been consistently dating one woman for about half a decade now, actress Isabel Machado.
Briney rarely talks much about their relationship in public, though he did celebrate her birthday in February 2025 with a carousel of photos, writing in the caption, 'my dear isabel turns 27 today 💓 thank you for always walking by my side, you make me the luckiest boy in the world.'
Here's everything to know about the theater star and her relationship with Briney over the years, from friends to lovers.
Isabel Rose Machado is originally from Chicago, according to her website. She moved to New York to attend Pace University, where she got her BFA in Acting for Film, Television, Voice Over & Commercial, graduating in 2020. While Machado has a number of screen credits, per her resume, she has a real passion for song and dance, which she incorporates in her theater work. She is a trained first soprano, can reach a high G note, play the piano, and has training in ballet, jazz, and modern dance. She even attended the Cecchetti Council of America for more dance training.
Briney has also hyped up Machado's fashion sense, joking with People at the 2023 Women's Wear Daily Honors in October 2023, 'The biggest thing [Isabel has told me] is just wear something that you think is cool. Not something that you think someone else thinks is cool. It's hard to do that, easier said than done.'
Machado added, 'And even when the fashion risks don't pay off. We support each other in anything. It doesn't matter—if it's a hell yes, it's a hell yes, and if [one of us] is going to do [something, the other] is going to support you.'
Briney also starred in the newest film iteration of Mean Girls and shared during a 2023 red carpet interview with Access Hollywood at the premiere, 'I couldn't do it without her. I couldn't do anything without her. I don't think I could wake up without her. I'd forget how to breathe.'
The pair met in school at Pace, becoming friends and even living together as roommates before getting together romantically.
'We were friends first. We went to college together, and we lived together. We knew that we could do it,' Briney told People.
In an old TikTok, they can be seen doing a scene together, playing a couple going through a breakup.
Machado's first public Instagram post from 2018 features Briney walking 'downtown' with her in New York.
In a conversation for Interview Magazine, Briney shared, 'One of my girlfriend's first memories of me—we went to college together, and we didn't date until after college—it was when we were all at our college bar, and I was doing magic card tricks, trying to flex on people, which is absolutely absurd.'
In June 2022, she joined him for the season one of The Summer I Turned Pretty, marking their red carpet debut.
That was also the month Briney posted a tribute to their first anniversary, writing, 'a whole year!? i could never want anything else 💘'

YouTube is testing Instagram-style collabs

YouTube has started testing a new collaboration feature, similar to Instagram's and TikTok's. A Google employee explained on YouTube Help that it will allow creators to add collaborators to a video so that they can be recommended to each other's audiences. The test is only available to a small group of creators for now, but it sounds like YouTube has plans to expand its availability in the future. Lindsey Gamble, an influencer marketing consultant and advisor, has posted a screenshot showing how the experimental feature works on Threads. As you can see in the image Gamble posted, adding collaborators would show their names next to the creators on their channel. If there are too many, at least on mobile, the collaborators would show as "...and more" next to the creator's name. Tapping on it would bring up the list of people involved in the project, with the Subscribe button next to their name. On Instagram and TikTok, the creator who uploads the content will have to invite another account as a collaborator, who'll then have to approve the invitation. That'll most likely be the case here, as well, in order to ensure that creators don't randomly add other users to their videos. It's not clear, however, whether the collaborators can see details typically reserved for the uploader's eyes. As with any experimental YouTube and Google product, the company will be taking the testers' feedback into account before deciding if it'll give the feature a wide release. fff

Woman Buys Box of Tennis Balls for 'Obsessed' Dog—Backfires Spectacularly

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Thinking her tennis ball-obsessed dog would be thrilled with an endless supply, one owner learned the hard way that sometimes less is more. Owner Mackenzie's chocolate Labrador cannot get enough of playing with tennis balls. While many dogs love playing with any ball, as the chase and catch mimics their hunting instincts, the color and texture of a tennis ball specifically capture a canine's attention, according to Rover. They see the color better, and the fuzziness feels good in their mouths. Mackenzie told Newsweek via TikTok that she found a box at a local thrift store filled with nothing but tennis balls, and immediately thought this giant box would last longer. Plus, with the store selling her the entire box for half off, it was a no-brainer to purchase. "We have two dogs and go through a lot of tennis balls because the dogs lose them when we're out," she said. "Our other dog likes to tear them apart, so I'm constantly buying new ones." She expected her dogs to love the endless supply; however, her July 18 TikTok video posted to her account @mackshaneen showed the Labrador not reacting as a tennis-ball "obsessed" canine would. Screenshots from a July 18 TikTok video of a chocolate Labrador running away from the box of tennis balls her owner bought her. Screenshots from a July 18 TikTok video of a chocolate Labrador running away from the box of tennis balls her owner bought her. @mackshaneen/TikTok In the clip, her dog stood by her side, tail wagging in anticipation of discovering what items were in the box. Mackenzie hyped it up, asking her dog if she was ready. Then, all at once, she tipped the box over and let the tennis balls go flying all over the floor. Mackenzie believed the endless supply would've made her dog jump for joy, but instead, the dog took off running. Her paws slipped on the floor, but that didn't stop her from continuing out the door. Thankfully, once the tennis balls stopped bouncing off the floor, Mackenzie said her dog turned a corner, embracing her favorite toy with open paws. Tennis Ball Safety While tennis balls are generally safe toys for canines, owners should be cautious about potential hazards. Rover stressed that dogs might try to swallow the fuzzies from the tennis ball, or even the entire ball, which can lead to choking or stomach problems. The fuzzy covering can also wear down your dog's teeth over time. To keep them safe, always supervise your canine during playtime. Find the right size ball—easy to carry and pick up—that your dog will not swallow. Toss out any worn-out or torn balls. Be sure to teach your dog the "drop it" command, as it comes in handy any time you need to take it away. Do you have funny and adorable videos or pictures of your pet you want to share?
