PM Anwar arrives to launch National TVET Day 2025
The prime minister, who arrived at about 11.05 am, was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.
This year's National TVET Day celebration is held for three days starting yesterday, during which various programmes and activities are held, including the participation of more than 60 companies and employers from inside and outside Melaka, offering about 5,000 job opportunities in various fields.
A total of 12 ministries are involved in organising the celebration, including the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT), Ministry of Education Malaysia (KPM), Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW), Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS), Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA), and Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI).
National TVET Day, celebrated on June 2 every year, is a manifestation of the government's commitment and resolve to make the field a key platform in producing a dynamic, skilled and competitive workforce for the future.
A two-day 4th ASEAN TVET Council Regional Policy Dialogue (ATC 4th RPD) has also been held since yesterday in conjunction with the National TVET Day 2025 celebration.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia must build its own internal capabilities as it cannot continue to rely in foreign technology, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The Prime Minister said that this covers areas such as cloud computing, as it is necessary to protect the country's classified information and strategic assets. "In terms of legislation, the Cybercrime Bill will be tabled in Parliament at the end of this year," he said in a post uploaded on his Facebook page on Thursday night. Anwar said every individual also plays a role in protecting personal data when dealing online, including through the use of MyDigital ID, which now records an average of 25,000 users per day as a result of integration with applications such as MyJPJ, MySejahtera, MyBayar PDRM, and MyGOV. "Malaysia's commitment is also expressed at the global level. In the near future, we will sign the United Nations Convention on cybercrime in Hanoi, Vietnam, as proof of our determination to strengthen international cooperation against digital crime," he said. He said the meeting also emphasised the importance of developing post-quantum cryptography (PQC) technology together with the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA), researchers, and the industry. KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia must develop internal technological capabilities rather than continuing to depend on foreign technology according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He emphasised the need for building domestic expertise in areas including cloud computing to safeguard the country's classified information and strategic assets. This matter received attention during his chairing of the National Cyber Security Committee Meeting Number Two of 2025 today. The discussion highlighted how emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and cloud computing must be evaluated through security considerations. 'Therefore, the government will continue to strengthen the country's cyber defence by protecting critical infrastructure, increasing public awareness, and strengthening cooperation among government agencies, the private sector, and international partners,' he said. Anwar confirmed that the Cybercrime Bill will be presented to Parliament before the end of this year as part of legislative enhancements. He noted that individual citizens also bear responsibility for protecting personal data during online activities. The MyDigital ID system now averages twenty five thousand users daily following integration with applications including MyJPJ, MySejahtera, MyBayar PDRM, and MyGOV. Malaysia will demonstrate its global commitment by signing the United Nations Convention on cybercrime in Hanoi, Vietnam soon. This signature will confirm Malaysia's dedication to strengthening international cooperation against digital crime. Sibu tourism students gain industry insights through practical training

SARIKEI (Aug 21): The Sibu branch of Sarikei Community College recently organised a programme titled 'Tour Guiding in Action: Tips & Real Experience' to provide students with valuable exposure to the tourism industry. College director Norasmah Jaafar said the session was conducted by licensed tourist guide and Industry Visiting Lecturer Wong Ing Hoo, and was specially designed for students of the SPL30203 – Tour Guiding course. 'This programme equips students with added-value knowledge directly from an industry practitioner,' Norasmah said. During the session, Wong shared practical tips and real-life experiences in the field, highlighting challenges faced by the tourism industry and stressing the importance of professionalism in building a career as a tourist guide. He also emphasised the need for English proficiency, cultural knowledge, tourist safety, and strong work ethics. Norasmah noted that direct engagement with Wong had enriched the learning process, making it more meaningful for students. She added that the PPI programme reflects the college's commitment to linking students with real industry experiences, in line with the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) aspiration to produce graduates who are relevant and work-ready. 'We believe such early exposure helps students better understand theoretical concepts while building self-confidence and the soft skills required to serve in the tourism sector,' she said.
