New Jersey ice cream tour features 14 shops across the state – and free scoops!
Then there are people who really love ice cream — and "I Licked My Way Through NJ" is the event for them.
The annual ice cream tour, organized by New Jersey members of the North American Ice Cream Association, kicks off Friday, May 9. Ice cream lovers are invited to visit 14 shops across nine counties through Sunday, Aug. 31, earning free scoops along the way.
Booklets are available at each participating ice cream shop, and visitors can have theirs stamped at each one. Four stamps earns a free small scoop, eight stamps a medium, 12 stamps a large — and 14 earns an ice cream tour T-shirt.
Customers who visit every shop also can mail their booklet to Randy's Homemade Ice Cream in Pompton Lakes for a chance to win one free ice cream treat per week for a year. The winner will be chosen on Sunday, Sept. 14.

Italian festival in Ocean Township includes food, rides, games and fireworks
Thousands of folks seeking food, fun and powdered sugar-coated zeppole will flock to Ocean Township this week for the 49th Anniversary IAATO Italian Festival. The Italian American Association of the Township of Ocean is hosting the festival through Sunday at Joe Palaia Park, Dow Avenue and Whalepond Road in the Oakhurst section. Festivalgoers can expect live music, authentic Italian food, cooking demonstrations, eating contests, carnival rides, games, prizes, raffles, and fireworks on Friday night. The food will come from more than two dozen vendors and restaurants, including The Gallery Pizza & Eatery, Hoagitos, Twisted Steaks, Tony's Italian, The WindMill, The Little Sicilian, Sweet Pepper Empanadas, Tic Taco Taqueria, Rosa's Kitchen, Big L's BBQ on Wheels and Falco's Catering. Members of the association will serve meatballs, sausages, pastries and zeppole. The fest is a fundraiser for the association, which has hundreds of members dedicated to fostering the Italian-American heritage and culture. Last year, the IAATO donated more than $100,000 in scholarships and funding for children's sports and community events, according to the organization's website. The festival takes place from 4 to 11 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and 4 to 10 p.m. Sunday. There is no charge for admission. For more information, visit or call 732-531-5768.
