Norris says he broke 'rule number one' with Piastri collision
'Lando is a very good guy and it is in his character and personality to say what he thinks, even if that is detrimental to himself,' added the Australian.
'This is a great quality for Lando. It is good for the team going forward that we can have these conversations and race like this and have things not go the way we want and get through them.'
Team boss Andrea Stella said it had been an accident waiting to happen and one the team had expected to deal with at some point.
'We said a few times that it wasn't a matter of if, it was more a matter of when,' said the Italian. 'And the 'when' is Canada 2025.'
Stella said it had been the result of a simple misjudgement, a miscalculation, and a part of racing even if the team never wanted to see their cars collide.
He praised Norris for taking responsibility and apologising to him and to the team and while there would be further conversations, he could count on McLaren's full support.
'It's important the way we respond and we react to these situations,' he added. 'This will only make us stronger in terms of our internal competition and in terms of the way we go racing.
'We act based on principles and based on principles there should be no contact between two McLarens ... luckily there was no double penalty with the points lost for the other car, which had no responsibility in this contact.'

New Piloti Ferrari 296 Speciale is one for the racers
Ferrari has unveiled its new Piloti Ferrari 296 Speciale. A product of the Italian carmaker's Tailor Made programme, it's designed to celebrate the marque's successes achieved in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and to honour Ferrari client-racing drivers. The unique specification, reserved for clients involved in Ferrari's official sporting activities — both competitive and noncompetitive — is inspired by the 499P, overall winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2023, 2024 and 2025 in the Hypercar category. As such it features a bespoke exterior treatment with a choice of four racing-inspired colours: Rosso Scuderia, Blu Tour De France, Nero Daytona and Argento Nürburgring. All four shades are offset by contrasting flashes of Giallo Modena (Ferrari's famed yellow hue) and a hand-painted WEC logo. The aerodynamic front splitter wears an Italian flag and customers can choose a number of their choice to be applied to the bonnet and doors. The cabin gets racing seats upholstered in black Alcantara, with inserts made from the same fireproof fabric used to make the overalls worn by Ferrari factory drivers. The livery number is reproduced on the interior carbon fibre, while the metal footwell surface can be customised upon request. The personalisation is completed by a carbon identification plaque and a carbon-fibre door sill owners can customise with a personal inscription. Power is provided by a 515kW 3.0l twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine. Mounted between it and the eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox is an e-motor that makes available a total system output of 648kW. Performance is rapid to say the least, with Ferrari claiming 0-100km/h in 2.8 seconds and 0-200 km/h in 7.0 seconds. Top speed is said to be greater than 330km/h.

Bayern Munich striker Kane, 31, has led the line for England for most of the last decade, but Delap is showing great potential, which led Chelsea to snap him up for £30 million ($41 million) from relegated Ipswich Town earlier this month. Maresca on Chelsea's Delap 'I don't have any doubt that he can be in the future England's number nine,' said Chelsea's coach on the eve of their Club World Cup opener against Los Angeles FC, when asked if Delap could succeed Kane. Maresca would not confirm if the 22-year-old forward will start at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Monday but said Delap was not showing any nerves after taking the Blues' number nine shirt. Chelsea have signed several high-profile strikers in recent years who have struggled at the club, including Fernando Torres, Romelu Lukaku and Alvaro Morata. The coach said he had not promised Delap he would be starting ahead of Nicolas Jackson. 'I never say to a player you (will) be a first choice, the message is always the same, you arrive, you work hard, you work more than the other number nine (and you can be),' he added. Winger wanted Maresca said Chelsea were interested in signing a left-winger later in the summer to replace Jadon Sancho, whose loan will not be made permanent, but for now were focused on the Club World Cup and first opponents LAFC. 'I'm never confident, I don't know if it's something good or something bad, but I think because of the technology today, any game can be difficult,' he said. 'They can watch many games about us, we can watch many games about them, so every game becomes very complicated.'
