UNRWA: One million children starving in Gaza amid Israeli blockade

Ammon20-07-2025
Ammon News - The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has warned that over one million children in Gaza are currently suffering from hunger due to the ongoing Israeli blockade.
In a statement released on Sunday, UNRWA accused Israeli authorities of deliberately starving civilians in Gaza, including a staggering number of children.
The agency called for the immediate lifting of the blockade and urgent humanitarian access, demanding the entry of food, medicine, and essential supplies needed for survival.
UNRWA further warned that the rate of malnutrition among children under the age of five has sharply increased between March and June this year, directly linked to the tightened siege on the Gaza Strip.
According to the agency, its health centers and medical points conducted nearly 74,000 screenings for malnutrition during this period. These screenings revealed approximately 5,500 cases of severe acute malnutrition and more than 800 cases of very severe acute malnutrition. WAFA

Gaza receives just 85 aid trucks per day despite ‘Israeli' pledge to ease restrictions

Despite an 'Israeli' announcement to partially ease restrictions on humanitarian aid to Gaza starting July 27, only 769 trucks have entered the Strip over a nine-day period, averaging just 85 trucks per day, far short of the minimum 500 to 600 daily trucks needed to meet basic humanitarian needs, according to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA). The Government Media Office in Gaza shared the figures with Al Jazeera, highlighting that aid deliveries remain critically low amid growing warnings of mass starvation and the ongoing collapse of the healthcare system. The daily breakdown of aid trucks allowed into Gaza is as follows: Despite minor fluctuations, humanitarian agencies say the numbers remain dangerously low for a population that has been under blockade and intense bombardment for nearly 10 months. The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and other aid groups have repeatedly called for unimpeded access and a significant increase in aid flow to prevent further deterioration of living conditions in Gaza.

Gaza hospitals report eight famine deaths, including a child, in past 24 hours

Hospitals in Gaza have recorded eight new deaths caused by famine and malnutrition over the past 24 hours, including one child and seven adults, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza. The latest figures bring the total number of deaths attributed to starvation and malnutrition in the besieged territory to 188, including 94 children, amid a worsening humanitarian catastrophe fueled by "Israel's" ongoing blockade and military assault. In its daily update, the ministry reported that 87 Palestinians were killed in the last 24 hours, including eight bodies retrieved from beneath rubble, and 644 others were injured. It warned that many victims remain trapped under the debris or in the streets, unreachable due to the inability of emergency crews and civil defense teams to operate safely. The death toll from "Israel's" genocide, which began on October 7, 2023, has now climbed to 61,020, with at least 150,671 wounded. Since March 18, 2025 alone, Gaza has witnessed 9,519 deaths and 38,630 injuries, underscoring the escalating scale of the conflict's toll in recent months. The health ministry also highlighted the ongoing tragedy of those killed while seeking food, water, or aid. Over the past 24 hours, 52 Palestinians were killed and 352 were wounded while trying to access humanitarian assistance. This brings the total number of aid-seeking casualties who reached hospitals to 1,568 dead and over 11,230 injured. The ministry reiterated that the true toll is likely higher, as dozens remain buried under rubble or in inaccessible areas due to the relentless Israeli bombardment and the collapse of emergency services. The crisis in Gaza continues to worsen, with health officials warning of a looming public health disaster as famine, disease, and displacement spread across the strip.
