Omani industrial exports to Saudi Arabia surge to RO 1.618 billion
MUSCAT: Omani industrial exports rose by 8.6 per cent year-on-year during the first quarter of 2025, reaching RO 1.618 billion, up from RO 1.49 billion in the same period of 2024. According to data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) in May, the growth reflects the Sultanate of Oman's strengthening industrial footprint in regional markets, particularly Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia saw a 28.3 per cent increase in imports of Omani industrial goods, reaching RO 259 million—highlighting the deepening economic ties and rising demand for Omani products in the Kingdom.
Nasra bint Sultan al Habsi, Director General of Trade at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, attributed the growth to the efforts of the Economy, Trade and Industry Committee under the Omani-Saudi Coordination Council. "This committee has focused on easing trade barriers, harmonising customs procedures, enhancing border transit, and digitally linking the two countries' trade systems," she explained.
A key development has been the use of the Rub' al-Khali border crossing, now a vital commercial artery facilitating the smooth flow of goods and services between the two nations.
The committee is also advancing cooperation in areas such as intellectual property, e-commerce, competition, and export development. Nasra noted that Saudi Arabia is now Oman's second-largest trading partner within the Gulf region. She emphasised Oman's openness to increased Saudi investment, especially in special economic and free zones that offer state-of-the-art infrastructure and attractive incentives—aligned with Oman Vision 2040 and Saudi Vision 2030.
Mazen bin Humaid al Siyabi, Assistant Director General at the Directorate General of Industry, noted that there has been marked progress in industrial cooperation between the two countries, with joint meetings, workshops, and investor engagements intensifying over the past year.
He said that 'priority sectors such as advanced manufacturing, technology, and supply chains have seen notable growth in collaboration, laying the groundwork for industrial integration and shared innovation.'
The Ministry's focus on diversifying markets, boosting productivity, and enhancing competitiveness is bearing fruit, he added, positioning Oman's industrial sector as a key driver of economic diversification. — ONA

Oman starts survey on jobs, leisure and public services
Muscat – The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) has launched a nationwide public opinion survey to gauge the views of Omani citizens on employment, recreation, and public services, including tourism and sports. The phone-based survey, which runs from June 15 to June 24, targets Omani nationals aged 18 and above across all governorates. It aims to gather reliable data on issues that impact daily life in the sultanate and contribute to the formulation of development policies grounded in public sentiment. According to NCSI, the survey covers three key areas: the labour market, sports and recreational preferences, and satisfaction with tourism services available across the country. Suad bint Abdullah al Maawali, Director of the Information Reports Department at NCSI, said the initiative is designed to capture citizen feedback on the employment sector and identify the types of recreational and sporting activities people engage in. It also aims to assess satisfaction levels with tourism services in different governorates. The project is part of wider efforts to ensure national development initiatives are guided by current and comprehensive data. Citizens are encouraged to participate and provide candid responses to help shape future strategies. Officials noted that the findings will play a pivotal role in evaluating and refining initiatives aligned with Oman Vision 2040, with a focus on improving public services and enhancing overall quality of life.

These ventures span more than 1.5 million square metres and provide employment for over 3,600 people across Madayn's various industrial cities. Khalid bin Sulaiman al Salhi, Director General of Marketing and Commercial Affairs at Madayn, revealed that 13 new food industry projects have been localised in the first five months of 2025, drawing in over RO 14 million in investment. These projects, covering 224,000 square metres, include production facilities for vegetable oils, flour, tuna, bottled water, food packaging, and logistics. Al Salhi confirmed that more projects are in the pipeline, with several contracts currently under review. Madayn has also designated specific zones for food industries in all its cities, including newly developed areas in Al Mudhaibi, Thumrait, and Suwaiq. One of the flagship initiatives under development is the "Madayn Agricultural Project," aimed at promoting sustainability and innovation in the food sector. In collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, Madayn also plans to establish greenhouse facilities in several industrial cities to bolster local food production and support entrepreneurship. In a step towards international collaboration, Madayn signed a memorandum of understanding with a South Korean company to set up a smart farming project focusing on Korean fruits and a farm-based café concept. Madayn is intensifying marketing efforts both locally and internationally to promote food sector investment, including participation in specialised trade exhibitions.
