"Pakistan aims to hinder our progress by fueling terrorism": BJP MP Brij Lal

Malaysia Sun2 days ago

New Delhi [India], June 4 (ANI): After completing a five-nation diplomatic visit, BJP MP Brij Lal, part of the JD(U) MP Sanjay Jha-led delegation, said, 'Pakistan aims to hinder our progress by fueling terrorism,' highlighting the ongoing challenges India faces from its neighbour.
'Our delegation went to five countries, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia. The response from all the countries was good. We wanted to show that we are a peaceful country and we don't want war. We want only development. That week, we became the fourth-largest economy in the world. We are going to be the third in two years, and by 2047, we will be a 'Viksit Bharat,'' said Brij Lal.
Addressing Pakistan's role, Brij Lal stated, 'Our neighbouring country wants to slow down our progress. They want peace to be disturbed here. This has been happening for the last 4 decades. Many people are asking for the proof... I told them that the IC814 flight was hijacked from Kathmandu in 1999 for the release of terrorist Masood Azhar and two other terrorists. The same happened during the 26/11 attacks, when we arrested Kasab... He had a fair trial in this country, and then he was sentenced to death. Now, we have brought Tahawwur Rana. In America, there is David Headley, who was sentenced to 30 years. During interrogation, he revealed that he had gone to Pakistan. So in this way, we have proof. All the cross-border terrorism that has happened is because of Pakistan... Who is the target? It's our Hindus. It was done to incite a communal problem in our country...'
On 'Operation Sindoor,' the outreach initiative aimed at mobilising global opinion, Brij Lal added, '...We requested that condemning the attack would not do anything. Everyone has condemned the attack. Even Indonesia has condemned it... There is going to be a financial task force meeting. We told Malaysia to take action against Pakistan... Not grey, Pakistan should be kept on FATF's black list.'
The all-party delegation led by JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha concluded their multi-nation visit, returning to India on Tuesday, 'very satisfied,' having accomplished the tasks entrusted to them to a 'great extent.'
The delegation included BJP MPs Aparajita Sarangi, Brij Lal, Pradan Baruah, Hemang Joshi; TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee; CPI-M's John Brittas; and Congress leader Salman Khurshid.
Their tour through Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, and Singapore underscored India's commitment to regional peace, security, and development. (ANI)

Modi opens world's highest railway bridge in Kashmir after deadly India-Pakistan clash

SRINAGAR, June 6 — Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kashmir today, his first visit to the contested Himalayan region since a conflict with arch-rival Pakistan last month, and opened a strategic railway line. Modi is launching a string of projects worth billions of dollars for the divided Muslim-majority territory, the centre of bitter rivalry between India and Pakistan since their independence from British rule in 1947. Nuclear-armed India and Pakistan fought an intense four-day conflict last month, their worst standoff since 1999, before a ceasefire was agreed on May 10. His office broadcast images of Modi at a viewing point for the Chenab Bridge, a 1,315-metre-long (4,314-foot-long) steel and concrete span that connects two mountains with an arch 359 metres above the river below. 'In addition to being an extraordinary feat of architecture, the Chenab Rail Bridge will improve connectivity,' the Hindu nationalist leader said in a social media post ahead of his visit. Modi strode across the bridge waving a giant Indian flag to formally declare it open for rail traffic soon after his arrival. New Delhi calls the Chenab span the 'world's highest railway arch bridge'. While several road and pipeline bridges are higher, Guinness World Records confirmed that Chenab trumps the previous highest railway bridge, the Najiehe in China. The new 272-kilometre (169-mile) Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla railway, with 36 tunnels and 943 bridges, has been constructed 'aiming to transform regional mobility and driving socio-economic integration', Modi's office says. The bridge will facilitate the movement of people and goods, as well as troops, that was previously possible only via treacherous mountain roads and by air. The railway 'ensures all weather connectivity' and will 'boost spiritual tourism and create livelihood opportunities', Modi said. The railway line is expected to halve the travel time between the town of Katra in the Hindu-majority Jammu region and Srinagar, the main city in Muslim-majority Kashmir, to around three hours. More than 70 people were killed in missile, drone and artillery fire during last month's conflict. The fighting was triggered by an April 22 attack on civilians in Indian-administered Kashmir that New Delhi accused Pakistan of backing—a charge Islamabad denies. Rebel groups in Indian-run Kashmir have waged a 35-year-long insurgency demanding independence for the territory or its merger with Pakistan. — AFP

Growing trend to deny burial space for Christians

Refusing burial space to Christians is becoming an alarming trend in villages across central and eastern India, particularly in the tribal regions of Chhattisgarh and Odisha. (Photo supplied) RAIPUR, India: Refusing burial space to Christians is becoming an alarming trend in villages across central and eastern India, particularly in the tribal regions of Chhattisgarh and Odisha. Christian leaders say the practice is being used to pressure believers into abandoning their faith and to deter others from associating with Christian communities or Victor Thakur of Raipur warned that Christians of all denominations are increasingly facing this discrimination. He described it as a coordinated and deliberate strategy that needs urgent attention from Church leaders and civil society.A recent case in Havechur village, Chhattisgarh, involved the denial of burial for Ankalu Ram Potai, a 55-year-old Christian who died on May 13. Villagers, upset by his conversion decades earlier, guarded his home overnight to prevent a secret activist Arun Pannalal reported at least 15 such incidents in Chhattisgarh since 2023, while Fr Ajay Singh of Odisha documented around 10 in the past year. They believe radical Hindu groups are attempting to isolate Christians and suppress religious freedom through these local burial denied, families often transport the deceased to distant Christian cemeteries, sometimes over 80 kilometres away. In one 2025 case, the Supreme Court failed to grant burial rights to the family of Pastor Subhash Baghel, who was eventually buried 85 kilometres from his home after nearly three stressed that political and sectarian groups exploit tribal poverty and illiteracy to fuel religious divides. Thakur similarly warned of 'divide and rule' tactics and urged Christian communities to unite and engage in dialogue to counter the growing hostility. Conditions in Odisha have worsened since the BJP's 2024 return to power. In March 2025, Christians in Siunaguda village were forced to convert to bury a relative, and others have faced harassment and social exclusion. Father Singh called these acts not only discriminatory but also violations of basic constitutional and human rights. --

Rights lawyer slams Penang's ‘racist' housing discount

Published on: Friday, June 06, 2025 Published on: Fri, Jun 06, 2025 By: FMT Reporters Text Size: Lawyer Rajesh Nagarajan urged the DAP-led Penang government to immediately withdraw the initiative and warned against policies that could deepen racial and religious divisions. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA: A human rights lawyer has criticised the Penang government's decision to offer a 5% discount on homes exclusively to Indian Muslims under the Madani Home Ownership Campaign (MOC), calling it discriminatory and unconstitutional. Rajesh Nagarajan said the policy unfairly favoured a specific race and religion which undermined the principles of equality enshrined in the Federal Constitution. Advertisement 'This initiative is deeply divisive and unacceptable. 'Why is the Penang state government rewarding Indians who are of the Islamic faith and punishing those who are of the Christian, Buddhist, Hindu, Baha'i or Sikh faith? If this is not discrimination, I don't know what is,' he said in a statement. He cited Articles 8(1) and 8(2) of the Federal Constitution, which guarantee that all persons are equal before the law and entitled to equal protection, regardless of religion, race, or descent. Rajesh also took aim at state housing and environment committee chairman S Sundarajoo, accusing him of practising 'state-sanctioned racial discrimination' and setting a dangerous precedent. 'Public funds and state-backed initiatives must benefit all Malaysians equally, and must not be used for preferential treatment for selected groups. It is clearly a racist policy,' he said. He urged the DAP-led Penang government to immediately withdraw the initiative and warned against policies that could deepen racial and religious divisions. 'This is not an apartheid country where certain races are more equal than others,' he added. Yesterday, Bernama reported that the Penang government would offer a discount to Indian Muslims who purchased residential and commercial units under the MOC, from June 1, 2025, to May 31, 2026. Sundarajoo said the initiative, approved at a state planning committee meeting on Wednesday, was aimed at boosting home ownership, supporting the approval of strategic new projects, and creating a more inclusive and competitive property sector.
