Promotion-chasing Ipswich delay 'extra bit of elation'
"It was a really composed, committed, professional performance, some really well worked goals, six for 'Pesk' which is remarkable, and a collective team effort that has put us in a really strong position," said Sheehan."We have to enjoy the feeling that we have currently but we still have one game to go and want to make sure we end the season with a convincing performance that hopefully results in a final-day win. "The message (to the players) will be to enjoy the result but nothing is official, nothing is confirmed."Ipswich have to wait until 27 April for the chance to round things off in style when they take on Cheltenham Town on their home ground in Felixstowe. It will be the climax of a season which began with a total commitment to following the example of the Ipswich men's team, who won back-to-back promotions in 2023 and 2024, and reaching the second tier of the women's game, the Championship.Sheehan said: "They are a joy to work with. There's a special connection with staff and players. Togetherness is a huge pillar in our environment, it underpins everything we do each day. Hopefully in a couple of weeks' time we'll get our just rewards."It's been a long process, lots of years of laying the groundwork and foundations. We'd like to think we're in a really strong position, we've really attacked it, we've conducted ourselves impeccably, we've established some really strong momentum, won some important games and responded well when things haven't gone our way."So how will he approach what is sure to be a memorable day against Cheltenham?"Going to celebrate won't be my particular focus, it will be about preparing to perform and try and win the game and do ourselves proud," he added. "We've been really consistent all season and won't be stopping now. It'll be a big occasion and a big crowd but one we're determined to give a really strong performance for."

Wrexham SHATTER transfer record for £10m signing that has fans questioning Ryan Reynolds
Wrexham are set to break their transfer record with a £10m move for Ipswich's Nathan Broadhead, sparking fan debate over spending by the club's Hollywood owners Wrexham have been given the go ahead to smash their transfer record by completing a £10million deal for Nathan Broadhead. The Red Dragons have been chasing the signing of the Ipswich Town winger for the last few weeks. The 27-year-old Wales international was understood to be keen on making a return to the Welsh side, where he started his career in the club's youth academy. It was previously reported that a fee of £7.5m had been agreed. However, the move was held up by Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna due to a series of injuries plus transfer interest in other attacking players. That changed when the Tractor Boys completed the loan signing of Chuba Akpom from Ajax on Sunday. Championship new boys Wrexham have now been given the green light to complete the purchase of Broadhead after upping their offer to £10m, as per Sky Sports News. The player is believed to be on his way to his native home of North Wales to undergo a medical. Once finalised, Broadhead will become Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson 's ninth summer signing after receiving strong backing from the club's Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. It will be the third time Wrexham have broken their transfer record this summer after initially forking out £2.1m for Empoli left-back Liberato Cacace. The acquisition of Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O'Brien then surpassed that figure after costing around double that amount. The arrival of Broadhead will eclipse that again in what will be viewed as a statement of intent in many quarters. But some Wrexham fans aren't convinced and have questioned the hefty outlay by the owners at a time when the club still doesn't have a permanent training ground. Writing on X, one supporter said: "I really don't want to be negative here but it's been over 4 years since the take over and we've still not bought any land for a training ground. These signings are unbelievable but long term success will be slowed down if we continue to not have our own base." A second fan posted: "I'm going to be controversial here but that is ridiculous. Yes, he is Welsh and a former youth player but that can't justify that price. If we can't find a better striker for £10m then we need to look at our recruitment." A third added: "Not my money etc etc but £10m for Broadhead? Mmm okay." Meanwhile, another said: "I'm not sure I can be comfortable with us making a £10m signing." Broadhead joined Ipswich from Everton for £1.5m in January 2023. He played a key role in the Tractor Boys' back-to-back promotions from League One and the Championship, before being restricted to just seven Premier League starts last season as the club was relegated back down to the second tier. Broadhead has bagged 23 goals in 83 appearances for Ipswich, but recently entered the final year of his contract. He missed his club's Carabao Cup clash at Bromley on Tuesday after reporting in sick on the day of the game. His move to Wrexham comes as they prepare to take on West Brom in their first league home game of the season on Saturday. Parkinson's side lost their opening game away at Southampton 2-1 following a late collapse after being ahead for most of the match. Michael Flynn excited for the future after Cheltenham knock out Exeter
With several new faces included, goals from summer signings James Wilson and Ryan Broom earned the hosts a first second round appearance since 2021-22, with a trip to Cardiff their reward. The success eased the pressure after the Robins started their League Two campaign with two defeats without scoring. 'It's a very pleasing night,' Flynn said. 'Everybody was excellent, even the ones who came on and it's given me food for thought for Saturday (MK Dons away). 'We are a new squad and a young team, learning together and getting used to each other as well. 'The new boys who have come in tonight, who haven't had too many minutes, are getting up to speed and we are only going to get better. 'If we put in that level of commitment, we'll be a match for anybody.' Exeter boss Gary Caldwell, who made 10 changes, said: 'It was a poor performance. I don't think we got going in the game. 'We made a lot of changes, giving players the opportunity to show what they are about and too many didn't get up to the speed of the game. 'We felt the team was more than capable of winning the game but we didn't deserve to. 'Some of the young lads can take a lot from it but overall we need so much more as a team. We have to compete more, run more and be braver on the ball.'
