Conner Smith, 24-year-old singer kills an elderly woman in Nashville, police confirm charges
Country singer Conner Smith's weekend went from CMA Fest spotlight to police investigation real fast, and no, this is not a dramatic plot twist from a Netflix country soap. It is real life, and it is tragic.
What exactly Conner Smith did?
The 24-year-old, who was just soaking in the limelight at the 2025 CMA Fest, is now at the centre of a fatal accident probe. Smith was reportedly behind the wheel of a pickup truck that struck and killed 77-year-old pedestrian Dorothy Dobbins on June 8 in Nashville. Authorities confirmed that Dobbins was walking inside a clearly marked crosswalk when the crash occurred.

The 77-year-old lady died!
She was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but sadly did not survive.
According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, the preliminary cause of the accident is Smith's failure to yield the right of way. Let that sink in, a beloved country boy, fresh off the stage, is now being investigated for a traffic violation that ended someone's life. No alcohol. No drugs. Just a deadly lapse in judgement. And while Smith is not currently facing charges, the investigation is far from over.
Conner Smith's statement
One day after the tragedy, his lawyer, Worrick G. Robinson, tried to patch the bleeding with a carefully worded statement. Robinson said that Smith is 'deeply saddened' by the incident and is keeping the victim's family in his thoughts. He also confirmed that Smith is 'fully cooperating' with authorities as the investigation continues.
Conner Smith at CMA fest
The tragic twist came just hours after Smith was riding high from performing at CMA Fest—his dream stage moment, no less. In a TikTok interview posted on June 9, Smith had gushed about watching country icons on that same stage as a teen. Now, that feel-good moment is clouded by a very public and painful reality check.
#ConnorSmith was sooooo good 👍 ❤️🎶🎸🎹 TY #CMAfest for providing ADA access. Wouldn't have been able to see these wonderful bands without this available for our medical alert service dog. #CMAfest2025 pic.twitter.com/Vm5SQ1JgZP
Fans remember Smith for his viral hit I Hate Alabama and his 2024 debut album Smoky Mountains. He also made headlines last year when he tied the knot with surfer Leah Thompson. But today, the headlines are haunting.
As the investigation unfolds, one thing is clear: even the biggest dream can be jolted by one moment of real-life tragedy.

Carlito declares he's 'Back in Business' after WWE exit
Image via WWE Carlito, one of WWE's most charismatic performers of the 2000s and a fan favorite during his recent return, has officially parted ways with the company. In a post shared on social media, the 46-year-old wrestler revealed that his contract has expired and that WWE has opted not to renew it. The announcement was made by Carlito on June 1 via X (formerly Twitter), where he wrote, 'My contract is up in 2 weeks. It will not be renewed.' Adding a touch of humor, he joked about WWE demanding repayment of his salary for 'stealing money' and referenced Netflix footage. He then signed off with a heartfelt message to fans, saying, 'Gracias WWE & especially the WWE Universe. Los quiero mucho!' — Litocolon279 (@Litocolon279) Summer plans heat up as Carlito goes free agent Just days after his announcement, Carlito took to Instagram to confirm he is 'back in business' and fully available for bookings. The Puerto Rican wrestler is already scheduled to appear at WrestleCon in Newark, New Jersey, on August 1, during SummerSlam weekend. Carlito's second WWE run began with a high in 2023, when he received a massive pop during a surprise return at Backlash: Puerto Rico, assisting Bad Bunny in his match against Damian Priest. The reaction was so overwhelming that WWE brought him back on a full-time contract. He later aligned with the Latino World Order (LWO), though his presence on TV began to decline once the faction's momentum faded. While this recent run didn't result in any title wins, Carlito remains one of the few Superstars to have won gold on his very first nights in both SmackDown and Raw back in 2004. His earlier WWE stint saw him claim the U.S. Championship by defeating John Cena on debut, the Intercontinental Title upon switching brands, and later the Tag Team Titles alongside his brother Primo. Carlito hasn't indicated any specific plans, but speculation is already swirling. With AEW, TNA, and several major indie promotions on the lookout for experienced names, Carlito's availability could open new doors. Others believe he may return to his roots in Puerto Rico's wrestling circuit, where he has historically remained a popular draw. As WWE undergoes internal shifts with multiple roster changes, Carlito's exit signals another veteran stepping away from the spotlight - at least for now. One thing is certain: Carlito's story in professional wrestling isn't over yet. Also Read: WWE Hall of Famer slams TKO over Roman Reigns, Jey Uso treatment
