Conner Smith, 24-year-old singer kills an elderly woman in Nashville, police confirm charges

Country singer Conner Smith's weekend went from CMA Fest spotlight to police investigation real fast, and no, this is not a dramatic plot twist from a Netflix country soap. It is real life, and it is tragic. What exactly Conner Smith did? The 24-year-old, who was just soaking in the limelight at the 2025 CMA Fest, is now at the centre of a fatal accident probe. Smith was reportedly behind the wheel of a pickup truck that struck and killed 77-year-old pedestrian Dorothy Dobbins on June 8 in Nashville. Authorities confirmed that Dobbins was walking inside a clearly marked crosswalk when the crash occurred. Country singer Conner Smith was involved in a fatal accident, reportedly killing 77-year-old Dorothy Dobbins in Nashville on June 8, 2025. Smith's pickup truck struck Dobbins in a crosswalk. No charges have been filed as investigations continue. The 77-year-old lady died! She was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but sadly did not survive. According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, the preliminary cause of the accident is Smith's failure to yield the right of way. Let that sink in, a beloved country boy, fresh off the stage, is now being investigated for a traffic violation that ended someone's life. No alcohol. No drugs. Just a deadly lapse in judgement. And while Smith is not currently facing charges, the investigation is far from over. Conner Smith's statement One day after the tragedy, his lawyer, Worrick G. Robinson, tried to patch the bleeding with a carefully worded statement. Robinson said that Smith is 'deeply saddened' by the incident and is keeping the victim's family in his thoughts. He also confirmed that Smith is 'fully cooperating' with authorities as the investigation continues. Conner Smith at CMA fest The tragic twist came just hours after Smith was riding high from performing at CMA Fest—his dream stage moment, no less. In a TikTok interview posted on June 9, Smith had gushed about watching country icons on that same stage as a teen. Now, that feel-good moment is clouded by a very public and painful reality check. #ConnorSmith was sooooo good 👍 ❤️🎶🎸🎹 TY #CMAfest for providing ADA access. Wouldn't have been able to see these wonderful bands without this available for our medical alert service dog. #CMAfest2025 Fans remember Smith for his viral hit I Hate Alabama and his 2024 debut album Smoky Mountains. He also made headlines last year when he tied the knot with surfer Leah Thompson. But today, the headlines are haunting. As the investigation unfolds, one thing is clear: even the biggest dream can be jolted by one moment of real-life tragedy.
