Sandi Toksvig to hunt for undiscovered treasures in new archaeological series

The former Great British Bake Off presenter and comedienne will meet Britain's professional and amateur history hunters to capture the stories of treasures as they are unearthed for the first time in hundreds of years.
Toksvig, 67, will be joined by archaeologist Raksha Dave and a team of experts excavating the sites and meeting local experts to help share the history of the most remarkable finds.
The show, titled Sandi Toksvig's Hidden Wonders, will be aired in four parts, Channel 4 said.
Toksvig said: 'This is the dream job for a history and archaeology enthusiast like me.
'It is a total privilege to be given access to professional archaeological dig sites and to join Raksha and the teams as they dig to reveal the history of our country from right beneath our feet.'
Dave, an author and TV presenter, said: 'It's so wonderful to share this experience with Sandi.
'Together, we travel across the UK to join archaeological teams as they uncover astonishing stories from our collective past.
'We're both thrilled to bring archaeology back to the heart of Channel 4 – engaging audiences in a fun, approachable and compelling format that offers real insight into how people lived and the communities helping to rediscover their stories.'
Production company Salamanda Media has been commissioned to make the series.
In a second announcement on Friday, Channel 4 said the Rev Richard Coles will voyage around the British isles to four of the 31 areas mapped out by the shipping forecast, in a new series for More4.
The broadcaster and writer will discover the beauty of estuaries, oceans, channels and coastlines and meet residents of the Faeroes, Lundy, Thames and Wight to learn about life at sea and by the waterside, during the series titled Sailing The Shipping Forecast.
The 64-year-old said: 'For years I've listened to the shipping forecast with only half an idea of where these exotic-sounding places are.
'I'm very excited to be a part of this journey around the country and feel privileged to meet just some of the maritime communities of our coasts.'
The four-part series has been commissioned by Channel 4 from Glasgow-based Strawberry Blond TV.

Gail Morgan, 50, suffered a Bell's Palsy attack, paralysing the muscles down one side of her face after the £6,000 cruise was postponed just prior to boarding - and then axed completely. They say, subsequently, their treatment by operator Celebrity Cruises has been "disgusting" - and they've only received a third of the value back as vouchers. Gail told The Sun: 'I was inconsolable. I broke down in tears. 'The heartbreak of losing our honeymoon and my 50th birthday trip, a holiday we had looked forward to for years, was overwhelming. 'And still, not a single word of communication from Celebrity Cruises. 'I recently completed my masters in social care, and this was also meant to celebrate my achievement. 'But the very next day, my facial muscles on the right side of my face stiffened up. 'Since then, my face has been stiff. I'm still going through it.' Upon return to the UK, a doctor's assessment confirmed that the 'emotional trauma and psychological stress' were 'direct contributing factors to the onset of Bell's Palsy'. The cruise was due to depart from Port Miami on July 20. Inside Love Island winners Kai and Sanam's lavish honeymoon in Bali Initially, the cruise was delayed by a day, before it was cancelled due to a 'technical issue' affecting the liner's speed. Morgan added: 'We're working class people from a small village in Wales. 'It took us three years to save for this, skipping out on holidays and life's little luxuries. 'This was meant to be a milestone. 'Celebrity Cruises didn't even inform us of the initial delay and then the outright cancellation. 'We were informed by strangers who overheard our conversations. 'When we finally knew that it was cancelled, we couldn't even make emergency calls and had to borrow people's phones because we had British numbers.' Morgan and Davies were issued with a credit voucher each, both totalling £2,619. However, Morgan told The Sun: 'This is not good enough. 'First of all, you can't use the vouchers together, you can only use one voucher per cruise. 'You can't use the vouchers on special offers either, forcing people like us, who are working class, to pay for more expensive cruises. 'On top of that, they said they can't reimburse us for other charges incurred, like the taxi fee to get to the hotel. 'We didn't ask for any of this, and the way they have treated us has been disgusting.' A spokesperson for Celebrity Cruises said: "Celebrity Cruises is in contact with the guest and their travel agent directly on this matter."

Emma Raducanu addresses love life and 'terrible' Carlos Alcaraz question ahead of US Open

Emma Raducanu has been met with relentless questions about her love life and friendship with Carlos Alcaraz, who she will be playing doubles with at the US Open Emma Raducanu opts to block out the noise from relentless speculation about her love life. The British tennis sensation will play alongside Carlos Alcaraz in the US Open mixed doubles tournament. ‌ The two former US Open winners have been friends for a long time, but many tennis fans believe they may be more than simple close acquaintances. Raducanu is currently experiencing what could be described as her finest season since her stunning rise from obscurity to winning the Grand Slam at Flushing Meadows in 2021. ‌ Nevertheless, the questions about the two-time Wimbledon winner keep being served to her. She was seen watching one of Alcaraz's matches at Queen's during the summer, sparking unfounded rumours about an alleged hotel rendezvous between the pair. ‌ Nevertheless, the 22-year-old firmly declared at the time she and the world No. 2 are "just friends." She has since tackled the suggestions in another interview with the Guardian. The British No. 1 said: "I guess I'm like, it comes with the territory, people being so curious. I think they're more curious about this news than any tennis results and tennis news. "But I just keep myself to myself, my private life to one side. It's always amusing when people try to dig something up, but I try not to pay too much attention to it." At Wimbledon, British tennis ace Cam Norrie was bizarrely questioned about whether he was romantically involved with Raducanu during a press conference by an overseas journalist who was digging into the Alcaraz rumours. The bewildered player, who enjoys a long-standing relationship with partner Louise Jacobi, replied: "Sorry?!" The reporter then sought clarification, asking: "I am trying to find out who is dating Emma Raducanu. It seems to be a question circulating among all the men's singles... I was wondering if you're dating her, please?" ‌ Norrie, clearly uncomfortable, responded: "I'm not, no. You can ask her. I don't know." Raducanu, finding humour in the awkward situation, chuckled and said: "That was terrible, terrible." She has previously opened up about her friendship with Alcaraz, which goes back many years, telling the Mail: "He's so nice, very happy, amazing values and just a really positive light to be around. I've known him for years. "Wimbledon 2021 was the first time I started getting to know him. He was always playing the day before me, I would see him win and then I would have motivation to win and get myself into that position too. "It was really cool to go through that tournament together and then I kept going through the US Open, we were staying in touch for the whole time and, yeah, it's nice. "We have a good relationship still. He's obviously overtaken me a lot, but it's nice that we have that from a while ago."
