7-year-old attacked by multiple students during school bus route; driver now facing charges

A school bus driver is off the job after a child was attacked during his route, Georgia deputies said.

On Wednesday, Bulloch County Student Resource Officer Dep. Julian Brown received a report about an attack on a child during the morning bus route on April 18, our sister station WSB-TV reported.
The sheriff's office said it was later confirmed that seven students, ages five through 14, initiated a physical fight on a 7-year-old student during the morning bus route to the Mattie Lively Elementary School.
Authorities said the attack happened while the bus was traveling on Highway 301 North in Statesboro.

Investigators said after reviewing bus camera footage, the seven students were identified and charged with battery.
Also, investigators said the bus driver, 70-year-old Joey Edwin Jackson, was arrested and charged with cruelty to children in the second degree and failure to report child abuse.
According to the sheriff's office, Jackson is no longer employed by the Board of Education.
As for the students, all seven have been suspended from their respective schools. Their arrest information has been sent to the Department of Juvenile Justice for further court proceedings.
The incident remains under investigation.

The impact of the crash caused the Nissan Altima to veer off the road and into a front yard where the three girls were selling lemonade. The girls, who are 7, 8 and 9 years old, were all critically injured and rushed to a nearby hospital, the outlet reported, per police. Two of the girls were airlifted to the hospital and the third was taken in an ambulance. 'I was right there, and it just happened so fast,' a sister of one of the girls told Queen City News. 'I just ran and got my mom.' The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said that McCorkle was charged with a misdemeanor for failure to yield the right of way causing bodily injury, WSOC-TV reported. Investigators don't believe she was impaired or that she was speeding at the time of the crash. The driver of the Nissan Altima will not face any charges, the local outlets reported. And neither of the drivers sustained any injuries from the crash.'We thought all three of them were dead,' Jessica Tallent, a mother of one of the girls involved in the crash, said to WCNC. 'It's been very emotional. I was bawling my eyes out.' Family members and loved ones of the girls involved are hoping they will soon recover from their injuries. Woman and family members kill her husband in self-defense at Buckhead apartment complex, police say

Atlanta police are investigating a fight between a husband and wife that turned deadly in Buckhead. At about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to the Cortland Peachtree Battle apartment complex at 2420 Peachtree Road in Atlanta to reports of shots fired. When they arrived, they found a man dead in a hallway. Atlanta Police Homicide Commander Andrew Smith said a man in his mid-30s entered the apartment building, approached the apartment of his wife, also in her mid-30s, and fired two shots. Smith said the man and woman were in the process of getting a divorce.
