US Finalizes $2.6 Bln Combat Helicopter Sale to Norway

Israa Farhan
The United States has approved the sale of advanced combat rescue helicopters and related equipment to Norway in a deal worth $2.6 billion, further reinforcing the NATO member's defense capabilities amid heightened regional security concerns.
According to the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the sale will significantly enhance Norway's ability to address current and future threats, particularly in the domains of aerial combat and special operations.
The purchase is also
expected
to strengthen Norway's capacity to support other NATO allies and contribute to collective defense efforts.
The deal includes a comprehensive package of helicopters, combat equipment, spare parts, training programs, and logistical support systems, all aimed at integrating seamlessly into the Norwegian Armed Forces.
The DSCA emphasized that Norway will have no difficulty incorporating the new assets into its military structure.
The US State Department has given formal approval for the transaction, while the DSCA has submitted the necessary notification to Congress. The sale will proceed upon final legislative endorsement.
This major defense acquisition aligns with NATO's broader strategy to reinforce the alliance's northern flank and bolster operational readiness, especially in light of Russia's growing military assertiveness near Norwegian borders.

The expansion, covering 30,000 square meters, represents a $44 million investment (equivalent to EGP 2.2 billion), and is expected to create over 400 direct jobs. Scheduled to become operational by March 2026, the new facility will dedicate 75% of its production to exports, underscoring Egypt's growing role as a regional manufacturing and export hub. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Waleid Gamal El-Dien, Chairman of SCZone; Governor of Suez Tarek El Shazly; Turkish Ambassador to Egypt Saleh Mutlu Şen; and Hayat Egypt General Manager Şenol Keserlioglu, alongside senior officials from the industrial developer Orascom Industrial Parks. According to SCZone data, 18 Turkish companies are currently operating in the zone, with combined investments reaching $793.8 million. This includes 10 companies in Ain Sokhna, investing $508 million, 8 companies in Qantara West, investing $285.8 million. Sisi Reaffirms Egypt's Full Commitment to Supporting North Africa's Regional Standby Force

H-Tayea President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's full commitment to strengthening the North Africa Regional Standby Capability, highlighting its role in advancing peace and security across the African continent. His remarks were delivered during the 7th Mid-Year Coordination Summit of the African Union, where he spoke in his capacity as Chair of the North Africa Regional Capability for 2024. In his address, El-Sisi emphasized the growing need for a prepared and operational African Peace and Security Architecture, capable of addressing complex and evolving threats including armed conflicts, terrorism, transnational crime, and the impacts of climate change. He stressed that these challenges threaten the continent's development and stability, and require collective action. El-Sisi highlighted the importance of regional standby forces—particularly the North Africa capability, which Egypt currently leads—as essential components of the African Standby Force. These forces must be fully equipped, multi-dimensional, and operationally ready to deploy in support of peace efforts when called upon. He outlined the progress achieved under Egypt's leadership, including a comprehensive review of operational procedures, financial and administrative reforms, and the endorsement of a new activity roadmap by chiefs of staff and defense ministers during meetings held earlier this year in Cairo. El-Sisi also praised the execution of a field exercise in Algeria that helped synchronize the military, police, and civilian components of the North Africa standby force. The president stressed the importance of coordination between the African Union Commission, regional blocs, and the five regional capabilities to ensure effective conflict prevention and response. He called for sustainable funding, particularly for capacity-building programs that enhance the readiness and operational efficiency of the regional forces. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Arts & Culture Hawass Foundation Launches 1st Course to Teach Ancient Egyptian Language Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream
