The mastermind behind the chilling 1969 murders of Sharon Tate and eight others in Los Angeles passed away in 2017 at the age of 83 from colon cancer.
Nearly half a century had elapsed since Manson orchestrated the infamous killings when he died. His followers, known as the 'Manson Family', carried out the brutal acts across four locations in July and August 1969, following his orders.
Manson and several members of his cult were apprehended and indicted in December that year.
The slayings that shook the hills of L.A. were part of Manson's twisted plan to ignite a racial conflict he dubbed "Helter Skelter."
He envisaged this apocalyptic event would result in the Manson Family emerging victorious, enabling them to create a stronghold of power, reports the Mirror US.
The country was gripped by a mix of intrigue and horror throughout the nine-month trial that followed. Although Manson was initially sentenced to death in 1971 for his role in orchestrating the savage crimes, his sentence was reduced to life imprisonment when California repealed capital punishment in 1972.
The declaration sealed Manson's fate, ensuring he would spend the bulk of his existence locked away, and although his life was extended, the notorious cult leader was never to experience freedom again. He faced parole rejection a staggering twelve times throughout his incarceration.
People Magazine reported that at the time of Manson's death, his last words were shrouded in mystery. The LA Times noted that Manson had been "seriously ill" in the lead-up to his demise.
In November 2017, he was hospitalised due to gastrointestinal bleeding linked to his colon but was considered too frail for surgery, according to the New York Times. Subsequently, he was returned to Corcoran State Prison in Bakersfield, California.
Later in the year, TMZ reported that Manson was readmitted to the hospital in critical condition and would not make it back to prison. His death occurred just two days after news of his hospitalisation broke.
Manson's death certificate revealed his health status at the time of death and the cause.
Manson's final battle was with metastatic colon cancer. Respiratory failure and cardiac arrest were the ultimate causes of his passing.
Manson's life came to an end on November 19, 2017, at 8.13 pm PT. Throughout his time in prison, Manson accumulated over 100 infractions, including threats to prison staff, weapon possession, and assault.

Immediately after his conviction on June 28, 2012, Marin appeared to stifle a yawn with his hand moving towards his face. In reality, he was administering a fatal dose of poison. Within minutes, the lethal substance claimed his life. Chaos erupted in the courtroom as Marin convulsed and bystanders rushed to assist, trying to understand the unfolding crisis. Marin never woke up again and was declared deceased at the hospital. An autopsy later confirmed his death as self-inflicted. Investigators discovered the toxic agent in his vehicle. Deformed inbred children of chilling incest cult unable to speak or see
The revelation of a grotesque incest cult hidden within the confines of a family home sent shockwaves through those who uncovered the grim reality. A nightmarish incestuous ring, initiated by two great-great grandparents in an isolated farming valley, was exposed, having eluded the public eye for years. Their progeny were found in a state of severe disability, unable to communicate or see, as a result of relentless inbreeding. A kangaroo was found sleeping on one of the children's beds. Many of the children displayed visible deformities, with misaligned eyes, low-set ears, and appearing decades older than their actual age. Three of the girls, aged seven, eight, and nine, claimed their uncle, Charlie Colt, who lived on the property when the children were taken away, was also their father. The nine year old also alleged that Charlie Colt had sexual relations with her. It's thought the family patriarch, Timothy Colt, who passed away in 2009, fathered children with one of his daughters and one of his granddaughters. Five of the boys who were removed also confessed to torturing animals on the farm, including puppies and cats. They also admitted to mutilating the genitals of animals. Initially, the family heeded a request from social services in June 2012 to better their living conditions, but by July, police had to remove 12 children, all cousins aged between five and 15 years, after it was determined they were at risk of harm if they stayed at the property. The children who were taken away will stay in care until they turn 18. This case came into the public eye when the children's court of New South Wales decided to make its judgment in the case public. In 2021, during the trials of other members of the Colt family, evidence suggested that Martha's father, Tim Colt, might also be the father of his daughter Betty's 13 children. The trial for Martha heard that her children were likely fathered by Charlie, her own father Tim, and another brother. Three family members, Roderick, Martha, and Derek Colt, lodged intentions to appeal in 2020, but these have since lapsed. Out of the 80 original charges against eight Colts – which included incest, child sexual abuse, indecency against a child, and perjury – many were dropped. Charlie Colt, initially facing 27 charges, was cleared of two charges and acquitted, with the remaining charges withdrawn. However, his brother Roderick was convicted of raping his niece and half-sister Petra. During his trial, it was revealed Petra was actually his half-sister, as she was the offspring of Roderick's sister Betty and their father Tim. Despite all eight family members being locked up following their 2018 arrest, only four have since been handed prison sentences. Martha, along with her elder sisters Betty and Rhonda, and Betty's daughter Raylene, faced charges for fibbing about the paternity of their children. In a 2018 Facebook post, Betty Colt shared a snap of herself with two female kin, emblazoned with the words "Love Makes a Family". Rhonda was slapped with a 14-month intensive corrections order (ICO) for perjury, which came to an end in 2021. Raylene also received a 16-month ICO for perjury, which likewise concluded in 2021. Betty was found guilty on four counts of perjury, one count of lying under oath, and one count of perverting the course of justice, resulting in a 14-month stint behind bars. Her maximum sentence of two years and four months is set to expire in August. Martha, the youngest of the sisters, admitted to five counts of perjury and one count of making a false statement under oath.

'I met US's most inbred family - one thing from this day haunts me'
The documentary maker who shed light on the people dubbed "America's most inbred family" has revealed his experience encountering them for the first time. Mark Laita, who initially produced a video about the Whittakers in Odd, West Virginia, five years ago, has repeatedly returned to provide updates on the family which he posts on YouTube. The inbreeding within the Whittaker family began when the offspring of identical twin brothers Henry and John wed and produced children. This led to generations of inbreeding, resulting in many of the children enduring severe disabilities. Laita explained when he first learnt of the family, it proved difficult to approach them as the locals are extremely protective of them. Eventually, he located a police officer to escort him to their home. The filmmaker recounted in an episode of the Koncrete Klips podcast: "We came around to this road, which turns into a country road, which turns into a dirt road.", reports the Mirror US. And there's these people walking around and their eyes are going in different directions and they are barking at us." Laita described his initial encounter with the family as resembling something from the thriller film Deliverance. He said: "One guy, you would look him in the eye or say anything and he would just scream and go running away, and his pants would fall around his ankles, and he would go running off and go and kick a garbage can. And this would happen over and over. It was out of control - the craziest thing I have ever seen." Initially, the family were reluctant to speak with Laita, but he gradually developed a rapport with them after offering to snap photographs of them to place in a relative's coffin. He returned subsequently to film Inbred Family - The Whittakers in 2020. The clips bear titles such as "Christmas season with the Whittakers", "The Whittaker family cemetery", and "The Whittakers go to the state fair". Laita revealed that throughout the years, he has encountered varied responses from audiences regarding his footage. He said some brand him an "exploitative b******" whilst others consider the content "incredible". He acknowledged his work was exploitative, but argued it was inescapable in existence, stating: "It feels exploitative but I think it's good for us all to know that these things exist. The hotel I'm staying at, they're exploiting my need for sleep. The restaurant I ate breakfast at is exploiting my hunger. Everything is exploitative. Photography and video are especially by nature exploitative."
