Rajasthan HC asks for compliance report in illegal Walled City buildings case

Tuesday asked the state govt to comply with its Feb 25 order by July 7 in the case of 19 illegal buildings running commercial activities in residential area of Walled City. The bench of Justice Indrajit Singh and Justice Anand Sharma gave this order while hearing the application filed by the building owners.
AAG GS Gill informed the court that out of 19 building owners, only 10 were heard, and the stance of 9 owners was yet to be known. "Therefore, the court should give three months' time to the state govt," Gill said. Opposing this, amicus curiae Shobhit Tiwari said three months was too much time for the compliance report.
Senior advocate Vimal Chaudhary, associated with the case, said the affected people hid facts from the court and did not inform about rejection of their SLP in Supreme Court. "In this case, the court's order should be implemented quickly," Chaudhary said.
On Feb 25, the High Court had directed the state govt to immediately seal the 19 buildings.

From Haryana's side, Rajesh Khullar (Chief Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister), Anurag Rastogi (Additional Chief Secretary, Irrigation and Water Resources Department), and other senior officers accompanied Saini to the meeting.

UCC panel meets CM Patel, likely to submit report by month-end
The five-member committee, led by retired Supreme Court Judge Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, met Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel to update him on its progress in assessing the need for a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and drafting a law for its implementation. The committee, formed by the Gujarat government, briefed the CM on its work advancements on Tuesday. Sources told The Indian Express that the committee's term ends on August 31 and it is likely to submit a report by that time without seeking further extension. 'The committee is likely to submit its report by August end when its term is ending. The panel is unlikely to seek further extension,' sources added. After the report is submitted, sources said, the Gujarat government is expected to form a sub-committee to take formal action on its assessment. Recently, the Gujarat High Court had rejected a petition seeking directions to reconstitute the panel to include minority members, upholding the state government's right to constitute it. Apart from Desai, the four other members of the committee include retired IAS officer C L Meena, advocate R C Kodekar, former vice chancellor Daxesh Thakar and social worker Geetaben Shroff. During Tuesday's meeting, Law Minister Rushikesh Patel and Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi, were also present along with senior officials of the state government such as additional chief secretary to the Chief Minister, M K Das, Secretary to the Chief Minister, Vikrant Pande, and in-charge law secretary Upendra Bhatt among others. The committee was formed by CM Patel in February this year.

Driver's murder: YSRCP MLC's wife moves Andhra Pradesh high court over investigation notices
Vijayawada: Lakshmi Durga, the wife of YSRCP MLC Ananta Uday Bhaskar (alias Ananta Babu), has moved the high court challenging the notices issued by the investigating officer in the case involving the murder of Subrahmanyam, the MLC's former driver. She sought directions to quash the notices issued under section 160 of CrPC as part of further investigation of the case. The counsel for the petitioner argued that the notices issued to Lakshmi Durga are contrary to the directions issued by the high court, which categorically said the investigation officer should conduct only a further investigation, not a reinvestigation of the case. However, in the absence of placing any new material on record, issuing notices to Lakshmi Durga would be a reinvestigation, not a further investigation, the counsel argued. Arguing on behalf of the police, public prosecutor Menda Lakshmi Narayana said the petition is infructuous as the notices have already been issued to others and statements have been recorded. He said there have been many judgements by the Supreme Court where the apex court said the investigation officer can summon anyone as part of further investigation of the case. He sought time to submit the details of Supreme Court orders setting forth judicial precedence in the matter. Considering the arguments, Justice Venkata Jyotirmayi Pratapa posted the matter for further hearing to Thursday.
