This HDMI mod lets you play Nintendo Switch Lite on a big screen
The Nintendo Switch 2 is barely a month old so it's too early to expect any news on a Switch Lite successor. However, the Retro Remake's mod adds some crucial upgrades to Nintendo's handheld that was released in 2019 and gives us some idea of what a next-gen version could look like. Notably, it's a no-solder mod that mostly only requires connecting cables and can output 1080p HDMI video to a larger screen than the Switch Lite's 5.5-inch LCD touchscreen.
Retro Remake previously offered a SUPER5 OLED Touch mod, which lacked the HDMI feature. Adding the extra feature proved to be a serious challenge, according to the company's co-founder, who said the project took "18 months of R&D, just as many failed revisions, and more than $200K in costs."
"I can't describe how soul-crushing it was to go through so many failed revisions," Taki Udon wrote on X. "After the third failure, I was hopeful every subsequent version would be successful, but they weren't."
Testing is still underway for the SUPER5 OLED Touch HDMI upgrade kit, but the latest post shows that the Switch Lite mod playing Mario Kart on a larger display. Retro Remake's HDMI upgrade kits start at $90, but are currently sold out on its website. According to an email sent out to preorder customers, the company is unsure of when it will ship these kits out.

Switch 2 Overheating? Nintendo Just Posted a Warning You Shouldn't Ignore
Nintendo released its Switch 2 almost two months ago, and it sold close to 6 million units, according to the company's latest quarterly report. The new console has had a few hardware issues pop up, but Nintendo did confirm that it does have a bit of a heating problem. In a July 31 post on its X support account, Nintendo advised users to avoid playing the original Switch and the Switch 2 in high temperatures. The company says operating the consoles in a hot environment will raise the temperature within it and could lead to a malfunction. "When using a Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 in a high-temperature environment, the device's temperature may rise. This could potentially cause malfunctions, so please use it in a location between 5–35°C," the post says, according to a translation on X. "Recently, temperatures have been exceeding 35°C. Please be cautious when using it outdoors." In the U.S., "5–35°C" would be approximately 41–55°F. Nintendo of America didn't immediately respond to a request for comment about the tweet. Some Switch 2 owners have noted on Reddit the overheating warning weeks after the console's launch in June. When the console gets too hot, a message will pop up advising that the system is overheating, and it will immediately go into sleep mode to cool it off. So far, it's unclear what is causing the console to overheat. Some users on the Reddit thread said it happened while they were playing the console in docked mode, which is when the Switch 2 usually displays the highest resolution. Other times, owners said it happened in handheld mode. Back in 2022, Nintendo confirmed that the original Switch also had a tendency to overheat. It gave a similar message then as to the one that was posted on X just a few days ago.

I am a fan of affordable TVs and monitors, mainly because modern ones are pretty good and they have no smart TV OS. I have no need for a built-in operating system, as I always use a Chromecast with Google TV, anyway. Not to mention, saving money is always nice. The one downside is that these cheaper TVs usually come with a single HDMI port. Switching the cable around is no fun, but there is a cheap and straightforward solution. Just get an HDMI switch! The Anker HDMI Switch is only $9.99 right now, which equates to a 50% discount. The premise is simple. You'll get a single HDMI output on one end, and a couple of HDMI inputs on the other. The output connects to the TV, and the other two can be computers, consoles, Blu-ray players, or whatever you prefer. You can then press the single button on the accessory to switch between video sources. The Anker HDMI Switch supports resolutions of up to 4K@60fps. Other features include Dolby, HDR, and 3D content. It's also conveniently small, measuring only 2.17 x 2.17 x 0.57 in. It also has a metallic finish, so it won't really feel like a cheap accessory. Are you interested? This is a record-low price for this accessory, and at only $9.99, it is truly a no-brainer if you can find value in get yours while it's hot! Follow
