This HDMI mod lets you play Nintendo Switch Lite on a big screen
The Nintendo Switch 2 is barely a month old so it's too early to expect any news on a Switch Lite successor. However, the Retro Remake's mod adds some crucial upgrades to Nintendo's handheld that was released in 2019 and gives us some idea of what a next-gen version could look like. Notably, it's a no-solder mod that mostly only requires connecting cables and can output 1080p HDMI video to a larger screen than the Switch Lite's 5.5-inch LCD touchscreen.
Retro Remake previously offered a SUPER5 OLED Touch mod, which lacked the HDMI feature. Adding the extra feature proved to be a serious challenge, according to the company's co-founder, who said the project took "18 months of R&D, just as many failed revisions, and more than $200K in costs."
"I can't describe how soul-crushing it was to go through so many failed revisions," Taki Udon wrote on X. "After the third failure, I was hopeful every subsequent version would be successful, but they weren't."
Testing is still underway for the SUPER5 OLED Touch HDMI upgrade kit, but the latest post shows that the Switch Lite mod playing Mario Kart on a larger display. Retro Remake's HDMI upgrade kits start at $90, but are currently sold out on its website. According to an email sent out to preorder customers, the company is unsure of when it will ship these kits out.

GuliKit's new budget-friendly controller can wake the Switch 2
GuliKit is following the release of its $49.99 Elves 2 Pro controller last May with a slightly cheaper alternative that brings a feature that's still somewhat rare amongst third-party gamepads: remotely waking the Switch 2. The new GuliKit Elves 2 sacrifices some of the Pro's more premium features like advanced haptics, but for $29.99 — available now in translucent black or coral red — it could be a budget-friendly alternative to the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller. The Elves 2 could also appeal to gamers who prefer a symmetrical joystick layout similar to what the PlayStation's controllers use, or who still have a soft spot for the Sega Saturn gamepad. It's compatible with the original versions of the Switch, the Switch 2, as well as Windows, Android, and iOS devices. In addition to being able to wake the Switch 2, the Elves 2 has a six-axis gyroscope for motion controls like Nintendo's new Pro controller, but lacks an NFC chip for scanning Amiibos, and the dedicated chat button found on the Joy-Con 2. GuliKit says the Elves 2's battery life is rated at up to 20 hours matching the Elves 2 Pro, but other premium features missing on the cheaper alternative include button remapping, adjustable joystick sensitivity, and the ability to record and replay up to 10 minutes of button presses. Everything announced at the Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase July 2025
The Nintendo Switch 2 is out today and that's a cause for celebration. Players who were able to score one will no doubt spend the day racing in Mario Kart World, testing out their Joy-con's new tricks in Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, and testing out new features like GameChat. There's bound to be a lot of excitement, but also plenty of complaints. You're bound to see players sharing their issues with the system this weekend, which may leave you wondering if it's worth waiting to buy one until the bugs are ironed out. That would be a totally healthy response, but be warned: The fakers are coming. Take everything you see and hear this weekend with some healthy skepticism until the dust clears.

All the news from Nintendo's July 2025 Direct showcase
It's been a little over a month since the Switch 2 launched and Nintendo's ready to share more of the games coming to the console. This Nintendo Direct will be a short one, only 25-minutes long, and focused exclusively on third-party games. It's likely that Hades 2 will make an appearance. The game, out on PC in early access, got a huge update recently and it seems like a formal launch date announcement is imminent. We may also see some more of FromSoftware's contributions to the platform, like the multiplayer game Duskbloods . And of course, the eternally patient Hollow Knight fans are once again pinning their hopes on this Direct finally being The One to reveal more Silksong . With the Switch 2's improved graphics and processing power, this third-party showcase might also contain some surprising technical additions to the console's catalog like Call of Duty . We'll find out more when the Nintendo partner direct starts at 9 AM ET.
