Oil firm detects theft from pipeline, lodges FIR in Buxar
Indian Oil Corporation
(IOC) officials on Thursday lodged an FIR against unidentified persons for oil theft from the IOC's Barauni-Kanpur pipeline at Nuawan village under Krishna Brahm police station area of Buxar district.
Krishna Brahm SHO Chanchal Kumar said, "We have received a complaint regarding the oil theft and initiated an investigation into the matter. Charges have been filed under the Petroleum and Minerals Pipelines Act, Explosives Act, Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, and the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code."
According to Indian Oil engineer, Vishal Kumar, the illegal activity came to light during a routine inspection on June 16 around 7.30am.
Security guard Pramod Kumar observed signs of fresh excavation and disturbed soil above the pipeline, and promptly alerted the authorities. A joint team from Indian Oil and the local police reached the spot and found that a 2-inch illegal valve had been installed on the pipeline for stealing oil, resulting in the leakage.
"This act not only damaged national infrastructure, but also posed a serious safety hazard due to the highly flammable nature of the product," said Kumar, adding that the disruption in supply triggered a temporary fuel crisis in the surrounding areas.

Nandita was eventually moved to Brahmaputra Diagnostic Hospital, where she was undergoing treatment before her death.

HC notices to OMC over CBI's appeal for enhancing punishment
The Telangana High Court, on Wednesday, issued notices to the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC), which was made one of the accused by the CBI in the illegal mining case and convicted by the special court, in an appeal petition seeking enhancement of punishment to the company. Justice K. Lakshman of the HC passed the order issuing notices to OMC after hearing the CBI's plea filed under Section 418 (2) (b) of the BNSS. The officials contended that the punishment awarded by the trial court was grossly inadequate. The punishment of imposing one lakh rupees fine on OMC did not match the gravity of the crime established against the company, the investigating agency said in the plea. The CBI wanted that the punishment should act as a deterrent for the companies indulging in fraudulent practices. Three months ago, the CBI Special Court held the company guilty under Sections 120-B and 420 of the Indian Penal Code, imposing a fine of one lakh rupees. The judge posted the matter to September 17 for next hearing.

Man Who Attacked Rekha Gupta "Serial Offender", Charged Several Times: Cops
New Delhi: The man who was arrested for attacking Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during 'Jan Sunwai' at her camp office in Civil Lines here on Wednesday is a "serial offender" and several cases have been registered against him in Rajkot in Gujarat, officials said. The accused Rajesh Khimji was arrested by Delhi Police and a case has been registered against him under section 109(1) Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) (Attempt to murder) at the Civil Lines police station. Officials said that Rajesh Khimji has earlier faced cases and had been booked under various sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) that relate to causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means, intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace, presence as an abettor when an offence is committed. They said he has also been booked under sections that deal with unlawful possession of liquor. The officials said an FIR had been filed against him at Bhaktinagar police station in Rajkot in 2017 under Sections 326, 504, 114 of IPC. He was acquitted by a Rajkot court in November 2019. They said another case was filed against him (1227/2020) under Section 65AA, 116B of the Gujarat Prohibition Act. These sections relate to the sale, purchase, possession, and transportation of intoxicants, and unlawful possession of liquor. He was acquitted and released in a case in November 2023 by a Rajkot court. The officials said Rajesh Khimji was booked in the Bhaktinagar Police Station under the same sections in another case (1591/2020) and was subsequently acquitted by a Gujarat Court in October 2023. The officials said he was booked in Bhaktinagar Police Station ( under Section 6PI, 116B). The case is pending in a court of Additional Civil Judge and the next hearing is scheduled on September 29 this year. An official said he was booked in a fifth case (0072/2024) in Bhaktinagar Police Station under IPC Sections 324, 323, 504, 114 and GP Act Section 135(1). He was acquitted by a Rajkot court order in December 2024. According to Delhi Police sources, none of the relatives of the accused is in jail. They said the accused did not take any complaint letter or letter with him to CM residence. Police will seek the remand of the accused Rajesh Khimji.
