Bank executive kidnapped in Edenvale rescued

A 54-year-old bank executive who was kidnapped has been reunited with his family.
The man, reported missing in Edenvale, was rescued on Thursday after a multi-location tactical operation.
Security company Vision Tactical said police also arrested five suspects in connection with the kidnapping of the executive and two other victims.

'One suspect was caught at OR Tambo trying to flee, with the victim's phone and a large sum of funds transferred from his account. A raid in Tembisa led to three more arrests and the recovery of stolen vehicles
'A second raid uncovered not one, but two victims held hostage, including a hijacking victim. A fifth suspect was arrested at the scene. The third victim was later recovered and also reunited with his family,' Vision Tactical said.
Vision Tactical added that all the victims received immediate medical care, and forensic teams processed the scenes.

Businessmen rescued
Last month, two businessmen were rescued hours after they were hijacked and kidnapped in Midrand, north of Johannesburg.
The duo were abducted and rescued by the South African Police Service (Saps) Anti-Kidnapping Task Team.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said the businessmen were hijacked by a group of criminals driving a silver/grey Hyundai i10 on the premises of a car rental company.
'They were thereafter kept in a bush along the R21, where they were forced to hand over their bank cards and PINs. The kidnappers then began withdrawing large sums of money from their bank accounts.'
Manhunt
Mathe said a multidisciplinary team led by the SAP's anti-kidnapping task team were alerted and rushed to the scene.
'The two male victims were found in dense bushes and rescued. Their hijacked SUV Range Rover was later recovered in Tembisa.'
Mathe said a manhunt has been launched for the kidnappers who evaded arrest.

Limpopo police seize R3m worth of stolen goods, foreign nationals arrested
Limpopo police have arrested four foreign nationals and recovered goods valued at over R3 million in the fight against organised crime with the successful dismantling of one of the most sophisticated cross-border smuggling networks operating between South Africa and Malawi. On Thursday, 5 June, at approximately 02:00, the Limpopo Anti-Smuggling Task Team, supported by private security companies, intercepted a Scania truck pulling superlink trailers near the Polokwane weighbridge. The vehicle was en-route from Cape Town to Malawi via the Beitbridge border post. Following an extensive 18-hour operation and thorough search, the joint team recovered various parts from vehicles and motorcycles that were reported stolen in Cape Town. South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson in Limpopo colonel Malesela Ledwaba said they were able to recover chopped parts of a Ford Ranger reported stolen in Nyanga in May, including an engine, dashboard, radiator, differential and steering wheel, sixty(60) disassembled motorcycles concealed in drums and containers, reported stolen from multiple Western Cape police stations including Bellville, Mfuleni, Muizenberg, Nyanga, Milnerton, Sea Point, and Athlone. Ledwaba said various electronic goods including plasma TVs, sound systems, solar tower batteries, and cellphones suspected to be stolen, were recovered. Additionally, the Scania truck and trailers used in the smuggling operation were also seized as part of the investigation. The total value of recovered goods is over R3 million. The four foreign national males aged between 37 and 50 years, were arrested and will appear before the Polokwane Magistrate's Court on Monday, 9 June, on charges of possession of suspected stolen goods. Limpopo police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the successful operation saying the breakthrough represents a major victory against sophisticated criminal networks that have been exploiting our borders to traffic stolen goods. 'The collaboration between our Anti-Smuggling Task Team and private security partners demonstrates the power of coordinated law enforcement efforts. Urgent search for Free State teen kidnapped by fake police officers
The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Free State has launched a Search Task Team after a 19-year-old was kidnapped by two men impersonating police on Thursday. Kamogela Kaukudi was snatched at about 11.55am. The provincial police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Thabo Covane, said the teenager was kidnapped after he was collected from school. 'The complainant, Daniel Malebatso, arrived at Marti Du Plessis School in Fitchardpark as usual to fetch Kamogelo Baukudi, who is a Grade 11 learner at the school. The two left the school premises with Kamogelo driving the Suzuki Ertiga,' Covane said. He said the two pulled over after hearing sirens. 'Whilst driving along Vereeniging Drive, Erlichpark Extension, Daniel alleges that they heard a siren sound from behind, and they were pulled over by a White Toyota Hilux GD-6 Double Cab. Inside the Toyota Hilux, there were two unknown male persons; one wearing a police uniform and the other a blue tracksuit,' he said.
