Minister asks parents to spend time with children to keep them away from vices
Excise Minister Kollu Ravindra appealed to parents to spend time with their children to keep them away from vices. Participating in a rally organised by Krishna district police in connection with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking here on Thursday, the Minister asked the parents to observe the movements of their wards and teach them about good and bad habits.
APSRTC Chairman Konakalla Narayana Rao, Eluru Range IGP G.V.G. Ashok Kumar, Collector D.K. Balaji, Superintendent of Police (SP) R. Gangadhar Rao and officers of various departments participated in the programme.
Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA) and the Mandal Legal Services Committee, has organised a legal literacy and drug abuse awareness camp at Vikas Engineering College in Nunna on Thursday.
Vijayawada Third Additional Senior Civil Judge Venkateswara Rao, who attended the programme, asked the students to identify those who were addicted to drugs and report to the officials. He urged the students to utilise the make use of the legal services at hand in this regard.
Bezawada Bar Association president A.K. Basha, Vikas Engineering College chairman Narsareddy, principal Parameshwar Rao and students also participated.
The NCC Army Wing of Maris Stella College took out a rally against drugs. NCC 4 Girls Battalion Commanding Officer Col. Balinder Singh asked the cadets and the students to take measures to prevent drugs. Principal Jasintha Quadras, Anti-Drug Committee coordinator Ramakrishna, Army Associate Officer Captain Sailaja, Degree College vice-principal Usha Kumari, Navy officer Swapna Unnam and students participated in the rally.

International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking: Awareness events against drug abuse held across city
Kochi: At a time when society has grown increasingly vigilant about drug menace following a series of violent crimes, International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed in city with renewed calls for awareness, stronger enforcement and community-based prevention efforts. Commissionerate of customs (preventive), Kochi, conducted an awareness campaign for schoolchildren as part of Mission Drug Free India at Ernakulam Govt Higher Secondary School for Girls. Chief commissioner, central tax, central excise and customs, Shaikh Khader Rahaman inaugurated the function. Commissioner T Tiju conducted awareness session for students. Infopark hosted a range of programmes featuring a rally by students from eight schools. Adding a unique touch to the event, Thrikkakara assistant commissioner of police Shiju P S performed a song during inaugural ceremony at Athulya auditorium, helping draw more attention to the cause. Addressing the gathering, Shiju called upon children to earn the courage and determination to say 'no' even to close friends who may encourage them to do wrong things. Anti-drug rally was taken out from Athulya building to Infopark police station. Infopark assistant manager Sajith N G administered anti-drug pledge at the conclusion of the rally, which was organized by Infopark police station along with Progressive Techies — a socio-cultural and welfare organization of IT employees. CM calls for collective effort to eliminate drug menace
Lauding the efforts of law enforcement agencies in tackling the drug menace in the city, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday said the Delhi police arrested 1,100 people booked in drug trafficking cases and destroyed 50,000 kg of seized drugs between January and April this year. 'The fight against drugs needs everyone's involvement. If we come together, I believe we can eliminate the drug menace,' Ms. Gupta said at an event held at the Yamuna Sports Complex on the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The CM highlighted the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make India drug-free by 2047 and said the Delhi government is resolute in carrying out every responsibility towards achieving this goal. 'Addiction is of different kinds. Addictions like serving the nation and the society are needed and should be encouraged,' she said, urging people to report any suspicious drug-related activity on 1933, a dedicated government helpline number. BJP North East Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari called upon people to take a pledge to make Delhi a drug-free city. He said the Centre seized and destroyed drugs worth ₹25,000 crore in recent months. The event also featured street plays, awareness programmes, and musical shows on drug abuse, with participation from officials, Accredited Social Health Activists, teachers, and students. Meanwhile, Delhi Police concluded an anti-drug drive on Thursday and destroyed 1,629 kg of seized narcotics worth ₹3,274 crore, an officer said. (By Harshan Puzhankara)

No great work has ever been created under influence of drugs, says Prithviraj Sukumaran
Actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran has debunked the perception in society that creativity in the film industry is fuelled by substance, stating that no great work has ever been created under the influence of any substance. He was talking after inaugurating 'No Entry,' an anti-drugs campaign to mark the launch of a five-year long project, Substance Abuse Free Environment Village (SAFE), in the Ernakulam Parliament constituency at the Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology on Thursday (June 26, 2025) on the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The project initiated by Hibi Eden, MP, will be implemented in a phased manner under Project Venda of Fourth Wave Foundation with the support of the Jain (Deemed-to-be-University) and the Kochi-based Future Kerala Mission. Mr. Sukumaran said that the fight against drugs can be won only if an older generation, which showed how to enjoy life through their lifestyle, and a new discerning generation capable of making the right choices join hands. He wrapped up his speech with the popular film dialogue 'narcotics is a dirty business.' He then administered the anti-drug speech to students. In his presidential address, Mr. Eden said that the idea behind the project is to ensure the coordination of people's representatives, educational institutions, and social organisations for the serious cause of protecting students and youngsters from drug menace. The project will be implemented in association with the Kochi Corporation, 6 municipalities, and 24 panchayats. Memorandum of Understanding kits were handed over to the representatives from these local bodies. Around 3,000 school and college students attended the function. The 'No Entry' campaign proposes a strong declaration by the individual and society in general in a collective resistance against drugs. Preventing the entry of drugs into one's body, life and household remains the core of the campaign. SAFE project is an acclaimed programme against drugs being implemented by the Fourth Wave Foundation under Project Venda for the past 10 years. Uma Thomas, MLA, district panchayat president, Manoj Moothedan, Thrikkakara municipal chairperson Radhamani Pillai, District Police Chief (Kochi City) Putta Vimaladitya, Fourth Wave Foundation director C.C. Joseph, Jain University, Director (New Initiatives) Tom Joseph, and Rajagiri School of Engineering Fr. Jose Kuriyedath attended.
