Huge £6m Omaze house at centre of planning row after swimming pool, summer house & tennis court added WITHOUT permission
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A HUGE £6 million mansion won in an Omaze competition is at the heart of a bitter planning row. The massive property has fallen foul of important laws, since its swimming pool, summer house and tennis court were added without permission. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 6 A £6 million home won in an Omaze competition is embroiled in controversy Credit: Omaze 6 The home has had a tennis court and a swimming pool added which break planning laws Credit: Omaze 6 Omaze says that it did 'due diligence' and that the house is legal Credit: Omaze Located in the upmarket area of Blakeney on the North Norfolk coast, the house looks idyllic. Designed in the style of the mansions found in The Hamptons area of Long Island, the home was gifted to a prize winner in March. However, the house - known as Larkwood- is now embroiled in controversy after a member of the public alerted the council to unplanned renovations at the property. The neighbour had claimed that the home looked larger than what had been previously approved. Allegedly, an additional swimming pool, summer house and tennis court were added to the property without approval. An extension to the east wing of the house, garden landscaping and a four-bay garage were also added despite not being in the planning documents. Now, Omaze has been forced to submit new applications to North Norfolk District Council to address the changes. Reportedly, the company is hoping that the additions to the home can remain since it submitted retrospective plans for the changes. Omaze acquired the house to be used in the prize draw for Comic Relief. The competition was endorsed by a slew of celebrities including Lenny Henry, Jamie Oliver, Davina McCall and Rylan Clark. You could win a £4 million dream home in Cheshire's Golden Triangle The winner of the competition, Vicky Curtis-Cresswell, has yet to receive the keys as the controversy continues. Permission was granted for a property on the site to be demolished so that a three-bedroom home could be built in 2020. Later, approval for the house to be extended was given - with window sizes and the roof veranda being changed. Previously Omaze has insisted that it had done 'due diligence' and that the home is legal. Both Omaze and North Norfolk District Council have been approached for comment by The Sun. The news comes after an 81-year-old scooped the keys to a mansion in Perthshire, after paying just £25 to enter the competition. Now the owner of a £4 million Scottish home, Patricia Moule said that she feels 'absolutely overwhelmed'. Speaking about her incredible win, she said: "I made myself a nice gin and tonic to celebrate, but a stiff Scotch would have probably been more appropriate. "Things like this just don't happen to people like me. I never win anything. "The best thing I've ever won before this was a doll when I was nine years old. "This definitely tops that and was worth waiting 70 years for." She said that the home is 'breathtaking' and looks like 'something from a film'. 6 The home has lavish furnishings Credit: Omaze 6 It was designed to look like a home in the Hamptons Credit: Omaze

American visits Tesco and is blown away by UK vs US differences
Blogger Kalani Ghost Hunter delighted shoppers with his observations about British supermarkets An American who visited Tesco for the first time was wowed by the differences between UK and US supermarkets. Blogger Kalani Ghost Hunter documented his family's shopping experience on his popular TikTok account @Kalanighosthunter. In his video, he was accompanied by his mum, who had never visited any UK supermarkets before. Kalani explained: "This is the first time my mum has ever been in a UK grocery store, and I want to show her the cheese aisle. "Okay, so take a look at all the different kinds of cheese they have. This one's really good here if you like a very strong blue cheese that's a solid one." His mum replied: "They're got more varieties of cheese than we've got. It's like they have a lot more produce than we have to." She added that she thinks the groceries are cheaper. Continuing his Tesco shop, Kalani went on: "Now, mum, this is the weirdest thing. They have eggs on the shelf, not refrigerated." She replied: "Wow. Yeah, big difference. It means they're fresher eggs." Next, Kalani turned his attention to the meat on offer. "This is something that I've really struggled to find back home in America, when I'm trying to do a fry up, is back bacon. Here, there's plenty of variety for back bacon, but at home, it's really hard to find. With back bacon comes the sausages. It's hard to find this style of sausage at home. There's a lot of different sausages, but it's hard to find this style." He was also impressed by a meal for two offer. "I've never seen this," the shopper shared." It's a Tesco meal for two. Sweet and sour chicken and chicken chow mein in a box. There's even prawn crackers up top. That's crazy, £6.50. I mean, I don't know how it tastes, but for two people, that's wild." Last but not least, the American family stopped by the toiletries aisle to pick up Lynx Africa body spray. The video went viral, gaining over 20,000 likes and hundreds of comments. Several viewers were amused to see the family had added Lynx Africa to their shopping list. One viewer replied: "Lynx Africa is a right of passage for all young UK teens!!" Another wrote: "Ha! Lynx Africa is like catnip for tweens!" Someone added: "Lynx Africa was the popular one in the 90s hes an old soul! my teen boy likes the excite one," and a commenter shared: "I'm 46 and I used Lynx Africa as a teen." More praise read: "Your brother is a proper UK teen with all the lynx Africa. I used to use that stuff like my life depended on it." A fan added: "I think all uk teenage boys smell of lynx Africa, then upgrade to 1million aftershave when they get first weekend job, rite of passage clearly."

I live in London but haven't paid rent in over a year – my hack means I always sleep comfortably for free
Read on to see how much you can earn from house sitting HOUSE THAT I live in London but haven't paid rent in over a year – my hack means I always sleep comfortably for free Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A WOMAN has revealed how she has managed to live in London rent-free for over a year. Hattie, from the UK, took to social media to share her money-saving hack. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 3 Hattie revealed how she got free rent in London Credit: tiktok/@hattieev 3 She also got to hang out with people's pets at the same time Credit: tiktok/@hattieev 3 It's considered one of the most expensive cities in the world Credit: Getty The British capital city is one of the most expensive in the world, taking fourth place in a study by wealth migration firm Henley & Partners. The average rent price for a place in London is £2,121 according to Zoopla, but Hattie has managed to avoid the eye-watering cost. In the clip, she said: "I live in London but I haven't paid rent in over a year. So you might be thinking, how? How did you get around this?" Hattie, who is a professional ballet dancer, said she studied in the city for three years before moving to Orlando, Florida. But she decided to come back last year and knew she had to be in London if she wanted to get hired. "I was not in a position where I could afford rent. I did start working pretty soon after I got back in June but I was still freaking out. I did not have money for a deposit," she explained. Hattie claimed many places were asking for six months up front, something she was not in a position to pay for. "I was just thinking how can I realistically do this? How can I live in London where all the auditions are, all of the classes are, all of the opportunities are but not pay rent?" she added. After a quick Google search, she stumbled across a website called Trusted House Sitters. It essentially pairs users needing somewhere to live with people who need their animals looked after while they are away. We moved into a caravan in my mother-in-law's garden for a year, sure it was cramped but we saved £20k Instead of getting paid, you instead stay in the house without paying rent. It's a site Hattie has used for over a year, even though she never planned to do it for this long. "I booked the first sit, thinking in two months time, when I have enough money, I'm going to start renting somewhere," she said. "However, I have done a total of 27 separate cat sits in a year. That means moving every two to three weeks." Hattie revealed that she has essentially lived out of a suitcase for the last year, which can be difficult but is a price worth paying for free rent. While she has been keen to look at flats, hattie says she's always put off. "It's so expensive and you're not even getting really nice accommodation," she added. "I think I'm going to be doing this for a while." SOCIAL MEDIA REACTS The clip has since gone viral on her TikTok account @hattieev with over 54k views. Plenty took to the comments, amazed by Hattie's home hack. One person wrote: "I've thought about doing this for so long! So nice to hear your experience and SO IMPRESSIVE hahaha." Another commented: "Such a good idea, props to you!" How much can you earn as a house sitter in the UK? THE amount a house sitter can earn in the UK varies depending on a number of factors. However, the national average salary for a house sitter in the United Kingdom is £23,952, according to Glass Door. The rates can depend on factors such as: Location Length of stay - some long-term assignments of three months or more can charge a lower fee than shorter assignments. Pets - if the owner has animals that you need to look after the fee may be higher, particularly for dogs which require more work than cats Property size - the bigger the property the more care and upkeep may be required, depending on the terms. "Wow well done for navigating this!" penned a third. Meanwhile a fourth said: "My sister has been doing this for a while and it's incredible!" Someone else added: "Well done, good idea!"
