BEST BET
Race 4 No.9 HOT ONE: Placed at three of five, was fourth and fifth at the others so is highly reliable.

Race 3 No.3 CHOICE WITNESS: Beat Urafiki at Albury in January. Goes well enough fresh to win this.
VALUE
Race 1 No.5 SUNDROP: Been all around the mark so far. Getting so close now.

COROWA INSIDE MAIL
HOT ONE (9) was scratched from Echuca on Saturday to run here instead. The Wangaratta resident has placed at two of her five career starts and one of them was a solid, on-pace, third at Albury so she does handle 'our way of going'. Form reads well. SHEBRINGS BEAUTY (10) remains winless after 17 starts but she has placed eight times, four of them were seconds. Looks likely to medal again it would seem. PRIDE OF JEZZA (3) has drawn 2 and gets Blaike McDougall.
HOT ONE (9) to win (best bet), exacta 9 to beat 10.
ADASITI (5) was $10 into $8 when he beat a field of 14 in a Wagga Country Maiden on January 9 – and was spelled. He resurfaced there at home again on Wagga Cup day, $81 into $61, in a Class 1 and be certain that his 9th of 14 was way better than it reads. All three of TYCOON ARTIE (4) 's wins have been at 1200m. The stablemate of Asgarda is in grand form ahead of this and is blessed with a grand draw too.
BET: ADASITI (5) each-way, quinella 4,5, Daily Double 1st Leg 5, 2nd Leg 6.
LYSANDER (9) was scratched from a race at Parkes' Cup day meeting on Sunday. The son of Pierro has been racing in tremendous form for the whole preparation; in fact, he has won two of his last four and importantly, both were circa 1400m. SALUTE AGAIN (1) is quite a formidable horse on his best day (s). He has run well in better races than this and was devoid of luck at Wagga on Cup day. He was a near three-length winner at his only track/distance run before today.
BET: LYSANDER (9) to win.
WARPAINTED (6) has won twice in seven starts. He broke his maiden here in a 1400m affair at start two so he's always been handy. As for start seven, that was his first one for Donna Scott and even though he beat two home, it was the Wagga Guineas and he wasn't beaten far at all. DRUNKEN SAILOR (3) has done some good things in a relatively short time. Drawn wide so will need some luck but third-up today, he's beautifully placed and off a recent 'second'.
BET: WARPAINTED (6) to win, quinella 3,6.

PORT MACQUARIE TIPS
BEST BET
Race 3 No.9 LUNE D'EXCELLENCE: Sent out positive signs for the future first-up at Newcastle.
NEXT BEST
Race 1 No.2 PERASTA: Becoming costly but gets conditions to suit today.
VALUE
Race 4 No.7 RANHITA: Only won 1 from 21 but this is possibly within her reach.
PORT MACQUARIE INSIDE MAIL
GEMOLOGIST (5) won the coveted Star Kingdom on debut and did it comfortably in the end on a Heavy 9 at Muswellbrook. The difference today is that he is a 2YO taking on older horses which is difficult but not impossible. Good draw, Bullock remains. LOVE RAT (6) gets back in these shorter races but can really rattle on home more often than not. He was a noticeable closer in quite a deep Benchmark 58 here on a Heavy 8 first-up.
BET: GEMOLOGIST (5) to win, quinella 5,6.
AFRICAN DIAMOND (5) had trialled well prior to her debut run here at Port Macquarie on April 27 where she finished five-lengths third at $4.40. To be fair, it was a Heavy 8 and she was eighth of 10 at the 400m. PIEDI VELOCI (2) was tipped out after a rather encouraging debut at Murwillumbah. Market the true guide. RISK FOR REWARD (4) 's 'poor' first-up record is a little misleading.
BET: AFRICAN DIAMOND (5) each-way, Daily Double 1st Leg 5, 2nd Leg 9.
CALVARY (6) is a Matthew Dunn-trained direct relative of Naturalism bred to swim and that seems to be the way it has worked out with the 3YO having a win and a third on his two Heavy track runs. The win came while racing first-up as he is today. His dangers include his stablemate MISS UCHITEL (9) whose only run on Heavy was a big one. NAUGHTY NURSE (10) handles the wet admirably and won her maiden here at Port.
BET: CALVARY (6) to win, quinella 6,9.
BELLA KATHLEEN (9) has two wins; one at Gawler for one of her previous handlers, the other for former SA master Mark Minervini at Newcastle. Backed that up with a second to Gentelischi. YORIKIRI (7) saves his best for Port Mac; he has raced here eight times for three wins and three placings. His heavy form is more than acceptable. No reason why he can't make it win number four today. EMPUSA (10), a third generation descendant of Merlene, wears blinkers first time.

AFL 2025: Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell addresses James Sicily's injury concern
Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell has cleared the air over the injury concern to star captain James Sicily. Mitchell last week strongly defended the fitness of Sicily for him to later be ruled out for at least the next two weeks with a hip-abdominal issue. Sicily will miss the Hawks' season-shaping matches with Western Bulldogs on Thursday night and Adelaide next Friday. Mitchell conceded his comments 'didn't age too well' but doubled down on his previous stance of Sicily playing uninjured. 'We have management of lots of different players across the season of course, and at no point has he been a chance to not play,' Mitchell said. 'That was my frustration last week. It didn't age too well, obviously … at no point have we even considered not playing him, it hasn't even been close. 'There's injuries where 'is he going to get to the line? Is he going to be able to play this week?' He's never been in that category, he's definitely been playing every week – obviously it doesn't age well when it comes out like that. 'He got something that we didn't expect, it's been tracking, getting slightly better each week. His numbers on the screen have been getting slightly better. 'Then this week he had a big progression, so we need to get him right.' Mitchell said Sicily's injury concern had nothing to do with the groin and was in a 'higher spot'. The injury, according to Mitchell, can be 'unpredictable' but he still expected Sicily to return on time for Hawthorn's match with North Melbourne after the bye. 'You don't see that (the injury) often, we have had one recently a couple of years ago which can settle down in a couple weeks, but they can take a little bit longer,' he said. 'We're hopeful the two weeks can be a maximum. He would probably play the third we hope, but there's a bye then, so on the other side of the bye hopefully we get him back. 'One of the downsides of the injury is that he hasn't been able to train a lot. While playing has never been a risk, his actual training consistency hasn't been there. 'Obviously, that makes it a little bit tougher to perform on the weekend, but he's such a proud sort of guy he's always trying to train, always trying to do a bit more.'

NSW cop another unwanted injury headache ahead of State of Origin II as Reece Robson under a cloud
NSW have been given an unwanted headache before State of Origin II, with hooker Reece Robson in doubt to play for North Queensland again before selection. Robson backed up from the Blues' series-opening win to run out for the Cowboys last week against Wests Tigers, but left the field early with hamstring tightness. The dummy-half has been named to face Melbourne on Friday night, but coach Todd Payten said Robson was far from certain to play. 'He's in some doubt. He's got to get the body moving,' Payten said. 'We'll just be guided by the medical team and make a call come captain's run. But he's got a couple of boxes to tick.' Blues officials will name their squad for Origin II after this weekend, with the final game on the public holiday Monday between Canterbury and Parramatta. Robson would be expected to be named in the NSW squad regardless of whether he plays this weekend, but it would leave his fitness clouded for Origin II in Perth. Apisai Koroisau would remain the most likely back-up option for the Blues, after losing his spot to Robson in the 2023 series. Cronulla hooker Blayke Brailey would be another option, while NSW already have Sydney Roosters No.9 Connor Watson in their side as a bench utility. NSW selectors already have one decision to make ahead of game two, with prop Mitchell Barnett ruled out for the season with an ACL rupture. Melbourne's Stefano Utoikamanu is favoured to replace him, while South Sydney workhorse Keaon Koloamatangi is making a strong case. The Cowboys have also ruled Murray Taulagi out of Friday's clash because of the calf injury that cost him a spot in the Maroons side for Origin I. It means the six-time Maroons winger will not play again before teams are selected for Origin II, in a major hit to his selection chances. Fellow Cowboys star Jason Taumalolo is also out of the Storm clash, after failing to recover in time from a calf injury. He and Taulagi are expected to be fit to face the Dolphins next week. 'They just didn't come up to the mark. We need them to get a full week of training under their belt to play at NRL level,' Payten said. 'They both weren't there this week given it was a six-day turn off the back of last week's game. 'Next week is a longer turn-around and we expect them on the pitch on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and be right to play against the Dolphins.'

World Cup hero Cortnee Vine 'on the radar' for Matildas recall
New Matildas coach Joe Montemurro has hinted Women's World Cup hero Cortnee Vine may be in line for a recall to the national squad. Winger Vine catapulted to stardom when she scored the winning spot-kick in the Matildas' epic penalty shootout win over France at the 2023 World Cup. Back then, Vine was also lighting up A-League Women with Sydney FC. But between taking a mental health break, injuries and a difficult start to life in the NWSL with North Carolina Courage, the 27-year-old has not played for the Matildas since the Paris Olympics. Montemurro plans to reach out to Vine, along with other players in the wider Matildas selection frame. "Cortnee's definitely on the radar," he said. "We'll get to the heart of getting her back in the fray and hopefully we can build her into the Asian Cup also." Montemurro watched on in Canberra on Monday night as an array of other attackers made their own cases ahead of the Asian Cup. Amy Sayer scored a well-taken brace in the 4-1 win over Argentina. Kahli Johnson notched a goal and an assist across her first two matches, while A-League Women Golden Boot winner Holly McNamara is also highly rated. "It's interesting that everyone's talking about the next cycle and the aging squad," Montemurro said. Montemurro has been helped by Tom Sermanni testing and developing players during his stint as interim coach. "It's actually made my job a little bit easier in terms of profiling players and understanding what level some of the players are at and then thinking about how we can marry the two," he said. Montemurro will be in charge of the Matildas for their upcoming friendlies against Slovenia and Panama in Perth. AAP
