Shayne O'Cass tips, race-by-race analysis for 2025 Lord Mayor's Cup day at Rosehill Gardens
Form expert Shayne O'Cass analyses Saturday's 10-race card at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, presenting his race-by-race tips and analysis. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our P ro Tips section. SUBSCRIBE NOW! â– â– â– â– â– SARAPO (3) is a Frankel out of a Le Havre (won the French Derby) mare; thus blessed with a double cross of Sadler's Wells. Can't you just see this colt in a Guineas or Derby and whatever else in years to come? Massive debut run on a track and distance that worked against him. Stablemate HIDDEN ACHIEVEMENT (1) – who was scratched from the Sires – beat him that day. Might do again given the better draw. Set up for a really absorbing clash to start the day. BET: SARAPO (3) to win, exacta 3 to beat 1. â– â– â– â– â– ROSES IMMINENTE (12) was my bet in the Scone stand-alone Highway and while it says 10th of 16; she drew 14, was last on the corner and in a bit of traffic too. Drawn well this time and is one for one on a Heavy 9. ZOOMORPHIC (11) is a Zoustar son of Group 1 winner, Spright. Won at Mudgee by five lengths before another pretty emphatic win at Dubbo. Ready and able for a Highway debut. WARRIOR FOR PEACE (10) came from 13th of 15 to win in the last stride at Scone on Cup Day. Big win. â– â– â– â– â– EVERYONE'S A STAR (6) 's best runs are at 1100m. Wouldn't say she is an out and out muddie but she'll handle Soft if we get there on the day. This will be her sixth Midway in a row and bar that Heavy 8 one here on April 1, they've all been good. LADY EXTREME (7) has only missed a medal once in her nine starts (tick). Her two Midway runs were both seconds in better ones than this. KHUMBILAT (5) trialled well behind Ribusto and Semillion here recently. BET: EVERYONE'S A STAR (6) each-way (unless Heavy) otherwise LADY EXTREME (7) to win. â– â– â– â– â– KUNDABUNG (9) was a $450,000 MM Yearling. He's by the super sire Super Seth out of an O'Reilly mare; the same as Australian Guineas winner, Feroce and the Black Opal placegetter, Sanctified. Got quality miler written all over him. HOPPER (8) resumed with a confidence boosting win at the Farm on May 7 beating Gunroom who won at Canterbury on Wednesday. Onwards and upwards for this superbly-bred Snitzel son. The draw? Hmmm. We'll find out whether that helped or hindered on the day. BET: KUNDABUNG (9) to win. â– â– â– â– â– SUMMER FLAME (5) was $61 for no good reason when won the Denise's Joy at Scone, running 1.02.66s as it happens. This is 1100m again, only this time, she is racing at home. Not sure what the wide draw means to her, it might actually help her. We will know by now anyway. Ditto that last bit for LULUMON (1) who has drawn even wider still. This Jason Coyle-trained daughter of Vancouver is one of the best muddies on the card; don't forget she beat a decent field of Benchmark 78 Fillies and Mares here on a 10 back on December 7 last year. BET: SUMMER FLAME (5) each-way. â– â– â– â– â– KAZALARK (11) is grandson of Sarwatch who was herself a multiple stakes-winning daughter of Riverina Charm. This Chris Waller-trained son of Vadamos' lone win so far, and in only five starts, was on a Heavy 8 at Hawkesbury so he's got that boxed well and truly ticked. Take note; that was second-up as he is here. GUZUMPED (10) is first-up after contested The Wave and the 2200m MM Trophy in January. Wouldn't read much, if anything, into his 'bad' trials; he goes better on race day. BET: KAZALARK (11), GUZUMPED (10) each-way. â– â– â– â– â– UNSTOPABULL (9) finishes in the placings at a tick above 50 per cent which makes him an appealing betting proposition for each-way punters, more so given he was $8/$2.70 on Thursday morning. The Chris Waller-trained galloper ran a huge race first-up at Scone behind Zealously and Dollar Magic. His father was a mudder, his mother was a mudder and so is he. BET: UNSTOPABULL (9) to win. â– â– â– â– â– FIRST LIGHT (6) shares an honour roll with the likes of Carbine, Phar Lap, Wakeful, Flight, Gunsynd and others as a Colin Stephen winner. He actually ran rather well in a Metropolitan too which suggests he is more a 2400m horse he's only third-up into the prep and on a positive trajectory despite what the form guide suggests. Fascinated by MORMONA (12). How is it a 100/1 shot? If we get into the Soft range, this is doable for this Bagot placegetter who trialled really well behind Ingham winner Robusto the other day. BET: FIRST LIGHT (6) each-way, MORMONA (12) to place. â– â– â– â– â– KIND WORDS (7) (in the Lucia Valentina colours) was beaten three lengths in the Prov/Midway Final. She paid a big price for her 15 of 15 draw there at Randwick a fortnight later. As for last start, she drew wide again and came from a mile back again to finish inches off the winner, in third. Deserves a win; can see why she is favourite here. SEAFALL (4) was going to win a long, long way out last start. Drew well you see, but that is so far from the case this time. BET: KIND WORDS (7) to win. â– â– â– â– â– Got the emergency on top here, SUMMER FLAME (22), but expecting her to run in an earlier race. I have to admit to be a big Totoka man since she won a Two-Year-Old Maiden at Canterbury one summer night in February last year. Sad fact is, she is going to lose more races than she wins just because of her slow early/fast late pattern but when the stars align, she could win a decent stakes race. MISS JENNIFER (14) has raced without luck lately. Is barrier 23 (minus all the scratchings) actually a slice of good luck? Could be.

Turf Talk: Ray Thomas, Shayne O'Cass' best bets for racing on Saturday, May 31
Racenet and The Daily Telegraph's Ray Thomas and Shayne O'Cass debate the chances in all the key races on Lord Mayor's Cup day at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. SUBSCRIBE NOW! â– â– â– â– â– Ray Thomas: This has been some week, Shayno – Rosehill won't be sold, NSW won Origin and we are still waiting on confirmation who gets Leilani Lodge. Shayne O'Cass: I know it is off-season but I reckon there a few decent priced (potential) winners. Thomas: I do like Kerguelen in race 7. He's always promised plenty since winning his debut by nearly 10 lengths a year ago. That was impressive! ðŸ' Kerguelen gets his second win at start three for @godolphin ðŸ'µ Easy as you like for @zaclloydx — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) July 10, 2024 • O'Cass: First off before I get to my own pick, equine-wise. Is there anyone riding better or with more success in Sydney at the moment than Adam Hyeronimus? Loving Unstopabull here off that big run at Scone. Thomas: I know you enjoy delving into the breeding of thee two-year-olds. We don't see many of that age by English superhorse Frankel racing in Australia but I thought his son, Sarapo, was very good on debut and can turn the tables on Hidden Achievement in the opener. Hidden Achievement makes it look effortless at Gosford! Adam Hyeronimus gets an early race-to-race double! ✌ï¸ @cwallerracing — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) May 10, 2025 • 'Hope right decision was made': Rosehill trainers react to sale vote O'Cass: For a Frankel out of a Le Havre mare and one with a double-cross of Sadler's Wells to do that at Gosford over that sort of trip, well, he might be Chris Waller 's next big time classic colt next season. Thomas: The Lord Mayor's Cup is wide open. Private Legacy was very good in Adelaide last start and she might have hit form at just the right time. O'Cass: My little theory in 2000m/plus races is 'when in doubt, go Waller'. I know his form reads a bit underwhelming but I can see First Light peaking here. First Light goes $7.50 in to $4.80 with @tabcomau and bursts clear to win the G3 Colin Stephen Quality ðŸ‡ðŸ'¨ @cwallerracing @TommyBerry21 — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) September 28, 2024 Thomas: Have you had a look at the Group 1 races at Eagle Farm? I thought Kimochi was drawn to get the right run in the Kingsford-Smith Cup and I've 'done an O'Cass' and gone very wide in the Derby with a $41 bolter – Existential Bob. He gave the others a crisis! Existential Bob is too good for them at @IpswichTurfClub 🥳 @RMaloney_Jockey | @cwallerracing — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) May 21, 2025 Thomas: She did Shayno and I've been following it ever since. By the way, I'm a scratching from Rosehill tomorrow – my granddaughter, Charlotte, is having her first birthday. Do you mind holding the fort?

Ray Thomas, Shayne O'Cass Randwick tips: May 24, 2025
Racenet and The Daily Telegraph's Ray Thomas and Shayne O'Cass debate all the key chances at Royal Randwick on Saturday. Ray Thomas (left) and Shayne O'Cass. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. SUBSCRIBE NOW! ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ Ray Thomas: Shayno, there is some conjecture the sun might come out for the Royal Randwick meeting tomorrow – I've forgotten what it looks like! Have you done your heavy 10 form? Shayne O'Cass: Oh yeah. I know some punters hate heavy tracks but I actually like them. It makes the form easier without being easy. Just go for the proven muddies and hope the track is universally heavy/fair. Thomas: I'm not sure about the wet track conditions for the two-year-olds in the opener but Agarwood was very impressive on debut at Warwick Farm, running faster time than Regulated Affair the same day. Can either trouble Sequista? • James launches late Oaks bid with She's A Dealer O'Cass: I also did the muddie pedigrees RT, doesn't always work out precisely, but if it comes down to who is bred to get through it the best of these, it is Matima. Thomas: This is a good Highway with So You Pence and Shropshire Lad the ones to beat. I'm going to have a save each way on My Last Hooray as he will get through the heavy going. O'Cass: Loved your Frank Cleary piece, he could have nearly won two Slippers had it not been for Burst. Then again, Clarry Conners could have won 5 but for Encounter's swerve – ouch. I am a big Chemtrail man, RT. He's such a naturally talented horse. Thomas: Green Fly is the one to beat in the Charity Challenge Handicap. He's tough to watch as he gets so far back early in his races but he does have a powerful finish and he's a real mudlark. • 'What else am I going to do?': My Last Hooray no last hurrah for Frank Cleary O'Cass: Concur RT. I am eager to see how Diablo Bolt goes here first-up. He's a good horse. Thomas: Cruel Summer is one of the better we-trackers on the program, he's in great form and he will enjoy the heavy in the second last. He's good odds, too. O'Cass: I'll be on Kazalark unless the market says 'don't'. Thomas: I reckon we can get out in the last with She's Unusual. She will be fitter for the first-up run and is another who excels on wet tracks. • 'Some of it was really nasty': Tony Ottobre on Pride Of Jenni, social media and race day regrets Thomas: What about Brisbane and the Doomben Cup and Origin next Wednesday night? Pride Of Jenni is going to take some catching at Doomben and go the Blues in the opening game of the series. O'Cass: Would love to see her win, love a champion horse.

Shayne O'Cass' best bets, inside mail for Inverell on Friday, May 23, 2025
Racenet and The Daily Telegraph form analyst Shayne O'Cass provides his best bets and race-by-race analysis at Inverell on Thursday. The Form: Complete NSW Racing thoroughbred form, including video replays and all you need to know about every horse, jockey and trainer. BEST BET Race 10 No. 3: TAKEMINE Won two from 21, both wins were at Inverell. Reliable type. NEXT BEST Race 7 No. 7: RETHINK IT Only visit was a win on Cup Day here this year over this trip. VALUE Race 2 No. 6: CASINO COLLECTION Trials and starting price suggest she is a good deal better than her debut. DAILY DOUBLE 1st Leg: 2, 2nd Leg: 3 QUADDIE Race 7: 1, 3, 7 Race 8: 2, 3, 13 Race 9: 1, 3, 8 Race 10: 3 JOCKEY TO FOLLOW Matthew McGuren looks a real contender for the TAB Jockeys Challenge. INSIDE MAIL - INVERELL RACE 1: PAYNE RACING LISZTOMANIA BENCHMARK 66 HANDICAP 1800m EVERLASTING KISS (6) won her only start so far at Inverell and better yet, it was over this same trip. Nope, she won by a little over a length. As for more recent times, she was fourth to Existential Bob at Wyong last start and he of course won at Ipswich on Wednesday. MINDSPACE (3) has won four times with four placings with a handful of honourable fourths too. CASINO COLLECTION (6) had trialled rather well prior to her debut (fittingly) at Casino where she started at $2.70. Beat one home but had excuses and she is obviously way better than that. Expect more here. CITY GOLD SPEED (1) had every chance on debut at Scone when a 'fading' third but it was the Cup and the winner, I Am Brave, is at least city grade. Bet: Casino Collection to win, quinella 1, 6 JU TWO (4) could be saved for elsewhere but is ready to win, anywhere. Homeland has placed at four of his nine starts. His is in fact, three placings and a fourth in his time with Greg Howells. Well placed here only but for the wide draw perhaps. LUCKY ON LANDING (5) turned in an encouraging debut at Mudgee from a wide draw over 1200m. In box 5 here and 1400m. OL' MATE COOP (13) was tipped out after finishing a distant third to Shaggy at Coffs Harbour on debut. The Tony Newing-trained gelding resumed with a closing third at Grafton over 1130m. Barrier 4 this time, fitter, and the added metres seems like it will assist. SHOW US YA TEXTS (11) has been trialling like she won't stay a maiden for long. PIEDI VELOCI (4) is a big watch on its debut. AUSBRED YAHOO (3) has only managed to win once in 25 starts but she has placed seven times and five of them are seconds. She doesn't run too many bad races and does seem to run her best races when the jar is out of the track. Sent out the right signs first-up. WHISKEY MISS (14) is a million times better than her brief resume would suggest. TREAD SOFTLY (4) is a well-travelled horse who has raced in Victoria, South Australia, Queensland and naturally, here in NSW. To his credit, he has won six times including once at Eagle Farm. First-up here off a big trial win. RHYTHM IS A DANCER (1) is a six-time winner himself with eight placings. Has the race fitness after a respectable fourth of 15 in the Scone Country Cup last Friday. RETHINK IT (7) is two from 28 but one was at Inverell at this same trip. It was on Inverell Cup, Jan 1 this year, so it wasn't a bad line-up. Find this easier than the Glen Innes Cup last start. Ditto that for CASSIA LANE (1) who was one spot ahead of Rethink It at Glen Innes. Cassia Lane has two wins and a second from four visits to Inverell. NAVY STEEL (2) has two wins from his five starts. The son of Merchant Navy is '141' this current campaign, all three were rather strong races, perhaps not unfair to say that they were better than this? LAMPKIN LANE (13) has won only two of his 46 starts but placed 11 times, some of them were 'runs' every bit as good as the winner. He does look to be getting close. SNOW FALCON (1) is flying, pardon the pun, and arrives here on a hat-trick after those 'over the top' wins at home at Grafton. Note, she was runner-up to Bodhi Boy at Port Macquarie four runs back. Eager to see how ULTIMATE SAY (8) follows up a hugely impressive debut win. Never easy the next time but has drawn well here. B et: Snow Falcon to win, quinella 1, 8 TAKEMINE (3) has an overall record of two wins, six seconds and two thirds from 21 starts which all in all, makes him a pretty reliable type. But what makes him an appealing betting proposition is that both of those wins were here at Inverell. COOL FIZZ (2) has three wins and 10 seconds, one of those seconds was at this track and distance. Her most attractive stat is that all 3 wins are at this trip. Bet: Takemine to win INVERELL BEST BET Race 10 No. DAILY DOUBLE 1st Leg: 2, 2nd Leg: 3 QUADDIE Race 7: 1, 3, 7 Race 8: 2, 3, 13 Race 9: 1, 3, 8 Race 10: 3 JOCKEY TO FOLLOW

Shayne O'Cass' race-by-race tips, analysis for Randwick on Saturday
Form expert Shayne O'Cass analyses Saturday's 10-race card at Randwick, presenting his race-by-race tips and analysis. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. SUBSCRIBE NOW! â– â– â– â– â– MATIMA (4) has a real wet-trackers pedigree being by Lonhro out of a Commands mare out of a Canny Lad mare. The Commands mare is his dam Demerara who won the Silk Stocking on a Heavy 10. The Canny Lad mare is Happy Sailing who beat Phillipa Rush in the 1990 Coolmore. Matima won her Hawkesbury debut 1000m Maiden with a hint of quality if you ask me. ARISTOCRAT (7) has none of the favours that Regulated Affair had in that deep Warwick Farm Maiden. Has a bright future. Bet: Matima to win â– â– â– â– â– FIRST MISSION (9) is a Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou-trained son of (Ryan trained) Snitzel. The Wanless owned gelding has two wins, two seconds and a very honourable fifth from his five starts. Worth noting that like his dear old dad, First Mission is one for one on Heavy. ALLEGRO MISS (16) is by another great wet-tracker in Russian Revolution. Dam is by muddie sire Smart Missile, which probably accounts for her Heavy 10 win last start at Newcastle. â– â– â– â– â– RACE 3: TAB HIGHWAY HANDICAP 1200m Got to mention another wet track positive influence here; Cosmic Force, the sire of CHEMTRAIL (11). Cosmic Force will always be remembered for his seven length win in the Pago Pago. As for Chemtrail, Highway master Danny Williams has him perfectly tuned and seasoned for his city visit, third-up, and off an easy win. SO YOU PENCE (2) has been just expertly placed and managed by Matthew Dale hence the almost faultless record. When he wins, he usually thrashes them too. Bet: Chemtrail each-way, quinella 2, 11, box trifecta 2, 4, 10, 11 â– â– â– â– â– I respect Roger James at any racetrack at any time of the year but times that by ten when it's Brisbane in the winter time. He and co-trainer Robert Wellington are making their way up there, via Randwick, with this incredibly gifted and untapped filly, SHE'S A DEALER (3). Hard to line up New Zealand form at times, but she just looks like a good filly. She could win the Oaks. I maintain AUTOMNE TREE (10) can win the Derby. He's got Gold Trip close up and he just wants to stay. Bet: She's A Dealer, exacta 3 to beat 10 â– â– â– â– â– TRAPALANDA (15) has been crying out for 2400m since he got here and the Archibald's have got this talented young import there in absolute mint condition. He ran well at his Aussie debut over 1800jm and was even better the next time at the Gosford stand-alone over 2100m. On-pacer (now at the trip) who will handle the wet and stay. VRC St Leger winner AHURIRI (7) won on a Heavy 9 last start over 1900m. Form and timing reads well. GALILAEUS (6) stays, PHILIPSBURG (5) does too and he loves it Heavy. Bet: Trapalanda to win â– â– â– â– â– MISS JENNIFER (13) has a pedigree that John Hawkes would take great pride and interest in given her fourth dam was the Hall of Famer's first champion, Toltrice. One other thing about this Danny Williams-trained mare is her fabulous set of numbers at the track, the trip and on all ground. EPIC PROPORTIONS (5) was runner-up at her only Randwick run to Cigar Flick no less. Handles the wet, likes the trip. WINNING PROPOSAL (10) was hard to miss first-up in the same race as the unlucky Miss Jennifer. Bet: Miss Jennifer each-way â– â– â– â– â– QUANTUM CAT (14) was only just beaten in that 1800m Benchmark 78 on Hawkesbury Cup Day. He had 58.5kg that day, a good deal more than this Saturday (albeit in a Bm88) but the fact he more or less ticked the Heavy box (first time), gives him some added appeal. That, and the fact that this is 2000m and he has won over 2514m. (12) has numbers that say it better than words can. Best is good enough. ZAPHOD (8) and JAMBEROO (9) have obvious claims. Bet: Quantum Cat each-way â– â– â– â– â– GREEN FLY (3), the Frankel son and 'nephew' of the great Japanese galloper Admire Mars, was monumentally impressive when he won at his NSW debut at Rosehill on April 1 beating Cool Jakey, Dark Glitter and co. You could argue that his fifth to Punch Lane here 25-days later was an even better run. Won twice on Heavy. Eager to see how the market treats DIABLO BOLT (9) here. The testing track hasn't made his job of winning first-up easy but he has a good fresh record he trialled well. Bet: Green Fly to win, Diablo Bolt to place, Daily Double 1st Leg 3, 2nd Leg 10 â– â– â– â– â– KAZALARK (15) was balloted out of a 1400m race at Sandown tomorrow so runs here at the same trip but with the advantage of a Heavy track bearing in mind that his only win so far was on an 8 at Hawkesbury just before his neck second in the Spring Stakes at Newcastle. Pedigree fans take note; his third dam is Riverina Charm. Shapes a big improver. The market will tell a story with GUZUMPED (14) first-up. The son of Dundeel has a good fresh record and is most adept on rain affected tracks. â– â– â– â– â– Never been to Awapuni myself but I know enough to know that it if you can win on a Heavy 10 there, a Heavy 10 at Randwick will present no issues. Enter SHE'S UNUSUAL (10), the OTI mare from the O'Shea and Charlton barn who boast an exemplary record of three wins and four seconds from eight starts. Stars align, big time. ALLAPERCANTO (8) is two from two on Soft, first-up on a Heavy 9 or 10 or whatever isn't easy but she could be the one late. HELLBENT ON YOU (5) is fit and in-form.
