
Senior citizen in Kuching jailed for injuring daughter's boyfriend with machete
KUCHING (Aug 13): The Magistrates' Court here today sentenced a 64-year-old man to 27 months' jail for injuring his daughter's boyfriend with a machete in a dispute over money.
Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan convicted Jali Sagai on his own guilty plea to a charge under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison or a fine or whipping, or any combination of the two, upon conviction.
The accused committed the offence against the 34-year-old victim in a house in Taman Orchidwoods, Jalan Matang here at around 7am on Aug 9, 2025.
Based on the facts of the case, Jali had asked his daughter for money and became angry when told she did not have the amount he requested.
Dissatisfied, he took a machete and attempted to stab his daughter but was shielded by her boyfriend.
A brawl ensued between Jali and the boyfriend, resulting in the victim sustaining a head injury which saw him taken by ambulance to Sarawak General Hospital.
A police report was lodged by the daughter and Jali was arrested the same day.
An investigation revealed that the incident stemmed from Jali harbouring longstanding resentment towards his daughter for failing to meet his requests whenever he asked for money to buy food.
In addition, Jali accused his daughter of refusing to give him food or cook for him, and claimed he did not receive proper care from her.

Stabbing victim in Senawang had affair with suspect's wife, says cop
SEREMBAN: A 31-year-old husband fatally stabbed a 28-year-old man in Senawang near here on Monday (Aug 11), because the victim had an affair with his wife. Negri Sembilan police chief Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof stated that a preliminary investigation showed the victim had known the suspect's wife for approximately a month prior to the incident. "The the motive for the incident, as we now understand, is that the suspect killed the victim after discovering his wife's affair. "The wife came to know the victim via social media," he said. The case is being probed under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. Police have since obtained an order from the court to remand the suspect until Aug 18.

Police open 3 cases after attack on Rafizi Ramli's son
PETALING JAYA: Selangor police have confirmed that former Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli's son was attacked by an unknown individual at IOI City Mall in Putrajaya on August 13, 2025. In an official statement released today, Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar (pic) confirmed that a police report was lodged regarding an incident involving a male child who was physically approached and pricked with an unidentified device by an unknown individual. The attack occurred at the entrance of Symphony 2, IOI City Mall, Putrajaya, in front of K-FRY premises. Preliminary investigations confirmed that the victim is the son of Datuk Seri Mohd Rafizi Ramli, who is Pandan MP and former Minister of Economy. Following the incident, police have opened an investigation paper under three separate provisions: - Section 14(D) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 (Act 792) - If convicted, the perpetrator faces a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment and whipping. - Section 324 of the Penal Code - Provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years, or fine, or whipping, or any combination of two of these punishments. - Section 352 of the Penal Code - Provides for imprisonment of up to three months, or a fine of up to RM1,000, or both. Lorry driver who ran over cop with 4WD charged with attempted murder
KUALA LUMPUR: A lorry driver pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to a charge of attempting to kill a policeman by running him over with a four-wheel drive vehicle, causing him to suffer injuries. Muhammad Farhan Baharudin, 34, was charged with committing the offence against Corporal Mohamad Sallehin Ab Rahman, 35, causing the victim to suffer an 'abrasion wound over right knee and right elbow bruising over right lower chest wall', injuries which could have been fatal. The offence was allegedly committed at the Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Expressway (AKLEH) exit to Jalan Tun Razak at 9.05am on Aug 8 this year. The charge, under Section 307 of the Penal Code, provides a maximum sentence of 10 years' imprisonment and a fine or imprisonment for a maximum of 20 years if injury is caused upon conviction. Judge Izralizam Sanusi allowed him bail of RM8,000 with one surety and also ordered him to report to a nearby police station once a month. The court set Oct 6 for mention. Deputy public prosecutor Faizah Khalilah Zaberi appeared for the prosecution, while lawyer Mohd Fikah Sanusi represented the accused.
