Police open 3 cases after attack on Rafizi Ramli's son
In an official statement released today, Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar (pic) confirmed that a police report was lodged regarding an incident involving a male child who was physically approached and pricked with an unidentified device by an unknown individual.
The attack occurred at the entrance of Symphony 2, IOI City Mall, Putrajaya, in front of K-FRY premises.
Preliminary investigations confirmed that the victim is the son of Datuk Seri Mohd Rafizi Ramli, who is Pandan MP and former Minister of Economy.
Following the incident, police have opened an investigation paper under three separate provisions:
- Section 14(D) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 (Act 792) - If convicted, the perpetrator faces a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment and whipping.
- Section 324 of the Penal Code - Provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years, or fine, or whipping, or any combination of two of these punishments.
- Section 352 of the Penal Code - Provides for imprisonment of up to three months, or a fine of up to RM1,000, or both.
Shazeli also said that reported that the victim's condition is stable.
A comprehensive investigation involving various aspects is being conducted by Selangor police contingent with assistance from the Criminal Investigation Department at Bukit Aman headquarters.
The investigation focuses on multiple angles, including efforts to identify the motive behind the incident and the object used by the suspect.
As of now, the suspect has not been identified, and further investigations are being actively pursued. The public will be informed of any developments from time to time.

Kuching High Court upholds conviction of teacher who sexually assaulted six male students but orders jail terms to run concurrently
Photo for illustration purposes only. — Pexels photo KUCHING (Aug 15): The High Court here yesterday dismissed the appeal of a boarding school counselling teacher convicted of sexually assaulting six male students, but ordered his prison terms to run concurrently for a total of 15 years. Judicial Commissioner Datuk Faridz Gohim Abdullah made the decision after dismissing the appeal of the 35-year-old appellant to set aside the sentence and conviction handed down by the Sessions Court on Oct 21, 2022. The original consecutive sentence against the 35-year-old appellant totalled 90 years, with each charge carrying 15 years' imprisonment. However, the court upheld the 24 strokes of the cane imposed by the lower court. All the six charges were framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which is punishable under Section 14 of the same Act and read together with Section 16 of the same Act, which provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and possible caning upon conviction. According to the facts of the case, between 11.30pm and 4am in March, April, and May 2018, the teacher sexually assaulted the students, aged between 14 and 16, at separate times and dates in the school compound. He touched the victims' private parts and thighs, as well as hugged one of them. Police reports were lodged by all the victims and investigations revealed that several of them had been assaulted on multiple occasions. Deputy public prosecutor Nor Azhari Yusof appeared for the prosecution. PETALING JAYA: Former deputy law minister Ramkarpal Singh has regretted asking for Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh to be investigated for sedition over his remarks on the upside down flag issue in Penang. Ramkarpal, the Bukit Gelugor MP, said he remains against the use of the Sedition Act 1948 and wanted it to be repealed. In a statement today, he said he has 'always been, and still am, of the view that the Sedition Act ought to be repealed due to its draconian nature in line with the government's commitment to reform'. Ramkarpal had on Wednesday called for Akmal to be probed under the Sedition Act, saying the Umno Youth chief had issued several 'extreme and unacceptable' statements that were divisive, contained racial undertones, and had the potential to threaten public order. He also asked for Akmal to be investigated under the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace, and statements conducing to public mischief. Ramkarpal said since there had been many police reports on the case, such investigations should begin right away, in the public interest. 'I am of the view that there are sufficient grounds to commence such investigations,' he said.
